Wedding guest help - yay or nay to this dress?

Dress in question!

I hate printed or vaguely 'occasiony' dresses of any kind and I'd actually wear this dress outside of a wedding setting. I've got a small wedding coming up end of August in a countryside venue and was wondering if this dress would look chic and not too casual.

Planning on wearing with some heeled gold sandals, gold jewellery and a little white crossbody bag.

Maybe just message the bride and ask for clarification on the dress code? It would have been fine for our wedding; we specified on the invites that it was casual / wear-what-you-want.

fairlyplump · 18/07/2020 18:32

Its perfect for a small casual affair xx

mummykauli7 · 18/07/2020 18:35

It's a pretty dress and I like that it's something you can easily wear again and again.

For the wedding, if you need some styling inspo, I would hide the drawstring waist with a chunky gold belt. Layer some different length gold chain necklaces. Some skinny gold bangles and a nice clutch with heels.

indigioviolet · 18/07/2020 18:36

You would see that dress at a cool celeb wedding so I'd say go for it. But I'd style with white or tan rather than gold

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 18:37

New dress option - in the pink?

I was going to pair either the original dress or the new dress with this bag (already own it).

Jesus wept! 75 pounds for a long shirt???? Am I missing something? OP there are nice dresses in Primark. Seriously.

DianaT1969 · 18/07/2020 18:51

Look at jumpsuits at Massimo Dutti and Mango.

GooodMythicalMorning · 18/07/2020 18:53

Way too casual. Looks like you're late and just grabbed your partners shirt!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/07/2020 18:55

It looks like my summer dressing gown (the fact I own a summer dressing gown might mean you don't want to listen to my style choices!).

The pink is pretty, I like the fabric.

Iwanttositundermyownvine · 18/07/2020 18:56

It's quite casual but possibly could be dressed up.

Would you wear something in your hair? I always think that makes you look much more dressed up and formal. Doesn't have to be a hat or fascinator or whatever, just a sparkly or metallic slide could be nice.

HermioneWeasley · 18/07/2020 18:56

The second pink dress is better than the first which is much too casual for almost any wedding.

Londonmummy66 · 18/07/2020 18:59

If you can run to a little more than the pink dress then it would be worth looking at Me & Em which has some really nice dresses for the willowy between about £15 and £200 which can be worn pretty well anywhere

ProperVexed · 18/07/2020 19:00

Way too casual....looks like a dressing gown.

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2020 19:17

I think it could look fresh and crisp. August, countryside, just right. I'd agree with doing up a few more of the buttons

Defiantly41 · 18/07/2020 19:18

The pink is lovely. Those shirt dresses made of actual shirt material never look great after being worn for more than 10 minutes

BikeRunSki · 18/07/2020 19:28

That FC dress SockYarn linked looks like a school uniform!!

The pink broderie dress is more wedding-y, but do you really like it OP, if you don’t like dressy outfits?

I’d say that the original dress linked is actually fine for a barn wedding. I’d even go as far a saying that I’d wear it with sneakers, or Saltwater sandals for all or part of the day.

tenterden · 18/07/2020 19:30

Dress 1 is way too casual. It's the sort of thing I would wear to the beach.

Dress 2 is much better Smile

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 18/07/2020 19:32

The pink is gorgeous!

I like the idea of the shirt-dress smartened you, but I think it will be hard to execute for a long day at a wedding. It would probably look amazing and sophisticated for the first twenty minutes.

Absolutely love the pink though!

NameChange84 · 18/07/2020 19:36

I really dislike the first dress - it’s like a giant mans shirt and will crease like hell.

The second dress is much better but I’m still not mad on it.

Ted Baker have a great sale on at the moment. I’ve wished I had some weddings to go to and some of the dresses aren’t at all fussy.

Chloemol · 18/07/2020 19:40

No

Stinkyjellycat · 18/07/2020 19:53

The pink one is much better! 👍🏼

emilybrontescorsett · 18/07/2020 19:59

I'm in the car too casual camp too. Definately not heels for a barn wedding.
