Plus size in a Cos dress

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 15:52

I have an event (covid allowing) with lovely friends, some of whom are inctedibly stylish.

I am not stylish, but I do love clothes if that makes sense.

I bought this dress and I think I'm going to keep it, but wanted to get some opinions on here, if anyone would oblige!

I've put it with a navy, biker jacket in a very soft faux suede and espadrilles. But other options if weather is worse are these boots.

What do people think please? Be honest, I can take it... I think WinkGrin.

I am a size 16/18, apple shape.

I’d go with the Cos dress with the boots or maybe the white trainers. It’s a bit different. Definitely not the blue jacket though. By the way inglory, I love those shoes!

inglory · 11/07/2020 17:25

Although the clunky black boots make you look like a Victorian orphan which is very on-trend

🤣 such a good description!

MsJuniper · 11/07/2020 17:25

I like the first dress and I don't usually like frills. It looks stylish and modern whereas the 2nd dress doesn't. It's not "flattering" in the traditional sense but I think it looks cool and would look even better in real life with some movement.

inglory · 11/07/2020 17:25

@chasingmytail4 thank you, they are so comfy as well #winning

ProseccoSupernova · 11/07/2020 17:39

Your legs are lovely! But sorry not a fan of the Cos dress. How about a simple jersey dress, something like this? I’m a 16/18 and find them really comfy to wear and can dress up or down

I like the cos dress with ankle boots. It doesn’t work with the jacket though. September is usually warm though? If I was going to wear anything over the top
It would be a massive slouchy cardigan, as long as the dress, pulled snuggly around showing off your fab legs still. The other dress is nice but more of a primary school teacher look rather than a stylish event looks

ProseccoSupernova · 11/07/2020 18:06

Ooh and this (I don’t usually like fat face). It’s out of stock but I have just sent back a 16 and 18 today as was too short for me so may work for your legs! If you keep an eye on website it may come back in stock

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 18:11

Thanks for these^^.

I am also not mad on Fat Face, but that is nice. Unfortunately I really can't wear solid black near my face. It is really unflattering on me.

I like the Whistles one too, but not sure I'm in love with it...

I vote for the cos dress definitely worn buttoned up. I'd wear it with the ballet flats.

Not sure what you should do re jacket. Wear a thermal vest?

MargaeryTyrell · 11/07/2020 19:55

I LOVE the dress, hate the red shoes though, sorry OP! I really like it with both the wedges and the boots! I agree that you have great legs!

StellaRockafella · 11/07/2020 20:15

That’s a terrible dress. Too much detailing, and if you’re busty, will make whoever is wearing it look bigger.

Ellapaella · 12/07/2020 08:07

It's the colour of the dress that's problematic imo - it's a difficult colour to match with footwear or accessories. I'm not sure it's a flattering shade of green for anyone to carry off.

Gobb · 12/07/2020 08:15

I love the first dress styled the first way. It looks fun, relaxed, up to date, and I can't understand why ppl would say no to it!

LilyRose88 · 12/07/2020 14:08

I love you in the Cos dress! It is quirky and interesting and really suits you. I have one Cos dress which is amazing and every time I wear it I get complimented on it.

I am a size 14/16 with big boobs and I follow someone called emilyjanejohnston on Instagram. She is plus size (dress size 18) and gives really good advice about where to buy dresses that suit curvier women. She did a good try on session recently with dresses from Oliver Bonas which is a shop I would never have considered as I thought their clothes were aimed at smaller women. They go up to a size 18 online and her post inspired me to look at their website. She generally doesn't do paid partnerships with places either, so I trust her reviews. She also reviewed some clothes from Zara and gave some good advice about how to shop there as a plus size woman.

You have very good style anyway, so please don't think that I am trying to suggest that you need style advice, but I thought you might like to see some more ideas about how to get the best out of your great figure and stylish outlook.

Greenglassteacup · 12/07/2020 16:58

Inglory, your sandals are gorgeous, where did you get them from? I love them

OP, those red shoes are horrendous and I can’t see how they’d go with the weird vintage nurse dress. I like the shoes you Had in in your first photos,

Greenglassteacup · 12/07/2020 16:59

Random capital H appeared there

LadyPrigsbottom · 12/07/2020 17:04

I don't know why @Greenglassteacup, but your absolute horror at my clothes really tickles me. You are very humourous in the way you write! I do hope that's intentional; I'm not mocking your opinion, I just think you are very funny. I can see it's very...marmite. I mean, even I know it's hideous. So are the shoes. But I still love them Confused.

Thanks @LilyRose88, @Gobb, @Ellapaella and everyone else for comments!

I'm keeping the dress, I'm afraid Grin. If you see me sauntering down the street in it some time soon, give me a wave! greenglass, if you see me and recoil in horror and flee, I will know it is you Grin.

OP, you sound magnificent and I think you should wear whatever you like. I do, despite
( and even because of) one of my closest friends expressions of absolute horror at my choices. Crack on

LadyPrigsbottom · 12/07/2020 17:42

Ah right back at you @Greenglassteacup Grin.

I bloody love the Cos dress, it’s absolutely lovely. The jacket’s a no, though. Hope you find something you love to go over it.

TJH1 · 12/07/2020 18:54

Thanks to this thread, I’ve made my first order at COS.

Everydayisalearningday · 12/07/2020 19:14

Would you wear something like this ?

problembottom · 12/07/2020 19:16

I actually love the first dress without the jacket it really interesting and shows off your pins. Don’t like the second one, it’s a nothing dress to me.

ChipsyChopsy · 12/07/2020 19:21

Sorry if this has been said, but I'd try it with black opaques and some little boots.
