Plus size in a Cos dress

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 15:52

I have an event (covid allowing) with lovely friends, some of whom are inctedibly stylish.

I am not stylish, but I do love clothes if that makes sense.

I bought this dress and I think I'm going to keep it, but wanted to get some opinions on here, if anyone would oblige!

I've put it with a navy, biker jacket in a very soft faux suede and espadrilles. But other options if weather is worse are these boots.

What do people think please? Be honest, I can take it... I think WinkGrin.

I am a size 16/18, apple shape.

Sorry, by the time I'd posted that, there were more comments!

@ramarama, yes, good point that it shows off my legs, which are one of my better features. I don't think it's outrageously short either.

I do think it's a bit more fun / interesting and tbh, I can imagine the guests will be of the open minded persuasion re fashion.

A jumper you say @YellowandGreenToBeSeen? I will have a think. I have a relaxed fit, red, merino wool v neck thing from Uniqlo... it definitely wouldn't look as if it should work, but maybe. I'll have a try on later.

I feel like if I went with a jumper I should wear different shoes?

Yes while I think the second dress is much more flattering, it’s definitely not as fun or interesting.’I didn’t realise it was a choice between the 2 for an event.
If I were you I’d send the cos one back and try something else from there which is less frilly. The second one is nice but a bit boring for an event. Can you wait to try order more or do you have other options or are we choosing between the 2?

DianaT1969 · 10/07/2020 17:58

Love the COS dress with those shoes, but not the jacket. Better than the 2nd dress. You'll have more fun and feel younger in the COS. I'd be tempted to try a long, flowing kimono jacket with green tones as a coat. I'm not sure if my photos will post but you know the long silk/satin ones which girls wear over jeans and a white t-shirt on Pinterest.

goose1964 · 10/07/2020 18:01

Do you want to swap legs. I think the length is brilliant but not the cut.

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 18:07

No, it wasn't originally a choice of two @Budapestpest. But they are both recent purchases. The Seasalt one I will definitely keep for everyday wear, but the Cos one was more with this event in mind.

I have plenty of time yet, to think of more options, so it isn't an emergency or anything.

I do actually have a neutral / white kimono with green on it... so that is another thing to try on later, thank you.

Something shorter over it might work better. Or even a shawl/ pashmina type thing. Depending on the event

fascinated · 10/07/2020 18:34

For example:

You might need to experiment with different sizes but check their guide and order a few to try on / or go into a shop

Bolero? If you want to stick with your blue cos dress

Budapestpest · 10/07/2020 18:37

In that case op I would try another cos dress. I think you can def find one that works better

fascinated · 10/07/2020 18:42

I don’t love the bravissimo styles but they are the only company I’ve ever found that design for busts. Pretty ridiculous really — but if anyone else knows of companies I’ve missed I’d be grateful!

Ellapaella · 10/07/2020 19:05

I love the Second dress, it really flatters your lovely shape. I'm not feeling the Cos one though - sorry. I really don't like the colour of the Cos one either, it's a bit bland.
Second dress should definitely be a keeper though.

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:18

@fascinated, yes, I definitely struggle in the boob department! Especially shirts, oh my god. Disastrous. I used to have a job where I had to wear a black suit and white shirt to work and had to wear huge sizes to avoid the dreaded button gape.

I am still a bit undecided. I think I just really want to love the Cos dress. I am not entirely writing it off, yet. I need to do some more trying on, but I have just been for a shower and am in my confines watching Nigel Slater, so maybe not tonight.

Thanks again all, for the lovely, humourous and helpful comments Flowers.

Are you tall op?

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:23

I am 5'8".

The Cos dress is much more young & friendly. I do think it adds a bit of bulk, theres a little but too much fabric.
I have big boobs, wobbly tum but slim long limbs (5ft 10) & I find pieces in Cos that work.

jonahcoh · 10/07/2020 19:26

That's why people can't see your size. Your tall & in proportion so look completely different to some people's idea of plus size.

Mbear · 10/07/2020 19:28

I love the cos dress on you, but then I love cos clothes and I am similar size to you. Not keen with the jacket though, think wrong cut of jacket to wear with that shape dress. Well, for me anyway.

jonahcoh · 10/07/2020 19:29

more young & friendly
trendy not friendly!

AstridAv · 10/07/2020 19:30

I like the cos dress but not with the jacket. The dress itself looks lovely on you though. I like the second dress too.

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:30

Thanks @jonahcoh Smile. You sound a similar shape to me, so great to read that Cos works for our shape.

I wish I could go in person and try some things on. Are you allowed to try on in shops yet?

Try this lady for shirts

www.bounteous.co.uk/

Absolutely beautiful shirts.

Website could be better but worth ordering.

fascinated · 10/07/2020 19:31

Do measure carefully though. I was shocked at the difference between bust and waist measurements — in a good way though!

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:31

I am in my comfies* not confines!
