Plus size in a Cos dress

I have an event (covid allowing) with lovely friends, some of whom are inctedibly stylish.

I am not stylish, but I do love clothes if that makes sense.

I bought this dress and I think I'm going to keep it, but wanted to get some opinions on here, if anyone would oblige!

I've put it with a navy, biker jacket in a very soft faux suede and espadrilles. But other options if weather is worse are these boots.

What do people think please? Be honest, I can take it... I think WinkGrin.

I am a size 16/18, apple shape.

I have a pair of blue ugg boots I wear in the comfort of my own home.

One could argue your not a great arbiter of what counts as "hideous" though.

fascinated · 11/07/2020 16:54

Well, if you win the lottery I’d consider these www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/accessories/shoes/product.leather-strap-sandals-white.0888435001.html

mrsrhodgilbert · 11/07/2020 16:56

I think you love Cos or you really don’t. Not everyone wants figure hugging and I like the fact that it’s different. Wear the green dress and have a lovely time

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:56

So true @fascinated! Especially colours I wouldn't normally go for. I never wear purple and have bought the odd purple thing in the past, just because I liked them. But then I have nothing to go with them.

Hmmmm will keep thinking about shoes. I have these leather ballet flats...?

@LadyPrigsbottom

Interesting *@DidoLamenting*...what sort of tights would you go for?

Would micronets look weird? Might try on later with different tights.

If it was cold enough opaques but as it won't be I'd just wear normal "leg colour " tights. I never have bare legs unless dress is below knee. Micronets would work.
inglory · 11/07/2020 16:58

@fascinated my wardrobe rule for buying something I class as fun is I have to already own something it works with or buy something it works with at the same time as otherwise it will be unused.

I would wear that dress with ballet flats.
LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 17:00

It's a good policy @inglory. But, I thought I was fairly safe with a dress, as it only really needs to go with shoes, coat and bag...

OP posts:
inglory · 11/07/2020 17:01

@LadyPrigsbottom I think it's quite safe too but I know others find Cos a bit out there (it's not imo).

DidoLamenting · 11/07/2020 17:01

As there's less "shoe" with a ballet flat the colour becomes largely irrelevant so any ballet flat will be fine. The black boots and black shoes draw attention away from the dress.

Livingthecovidaloca · 11/07/2020 17:02

What’s the event?
It looks like something I’d only wear on holiday, sight seeing or to a bar at the end of the day, and I’d wear with flat sandals.... probably salt waters Blush
It’s fun, but I’d feel really underdressed in it.

inglory · 11/07/2020 17:03

I mean these were the basic summer sandals I bought this year so my style probably isn't very MNs

I love Cos. Their dresses look so much more expensive than they are. I have 2 cowel neck A line wool shift dresses with 3/4 sleeves which were £80 each. My husband was stunned they weren't in my normal price range for a dress which is a lot higher.

fascinated · 11/07/2020 17:06

Show us a pic with those flats

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 17:07

@Livingthecovidaloca

It's not super dressy - not a wedding or anything. And it is during the day. I just wanted to make a bit of effort. Any excuse at the moment! I don't want to look super casual though as the hostess is hosting at her mum's lovely house and I wouldn't want to rock up like I'm going to the beach or anything...

Blueuggboots · 11/07/2020 17:08

@inglory - but if the rest of her body looks completely out of proportion because of the creased duvet like bulk of the dress?

sofato5miles · 11/07/2020 17:08

Love the dress. Scandi cool, shows off your legs, nice colour and comfy. You will feel confidint in it. Do you have white leather trainers?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/07/2020 17:10

Cos dress, unbuttoned, with the boots.

Not the Mary Janes, the Mary Janes bring something of the Grayson Perry to the party.

Or try the Cos dress with box-fresh trainers.

The Seasalt dress is flattering but looks like you've got a presentation on at work. The Cos dress is more fashion than flatter, which feels like the right vibe for this particular do.

Yeah, I'll try it on again later with the flats. I'm back in my normal clothes now, and dh is doing a work call upstairs so can't really go in and get changed!

@DidoLamenting, it feels like an expensive dress to me! Having said that, my usual price range is Cos or lower, so what would I know? But it does feel lovely quality.

I don't own any skin colour tights, but I'll have a look for some.

OP posts:
inglory · 11/07/2020 17:11

@Blueuggboots I disagree

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 17:14

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett yes re the Seasalt dress. I did buy it, thinking that if I get a job (SAHM at the moment), later this year, it would be a good dress for the office!

Grayson Perry... ok, yes. I see what you mean about that too.

@sofato5miles, The shoes I bought yesterday were white trainers! When they arrive I will try those with it.

That Cos dress looks fab with the ankle boots. Very Villanelle.

And your legs are uh-maz-ing Envy

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 17:16

Ooooo Villanelle you say? I'll take that Grin. Thank you!

Their dresses look so much more expensive than they are.

Agree & they hang very well. Also i'm tall & it's rare to find decent lengths.

AnneOfQueenSables · 11/07/2020 17:18

I love the Cos dress and your legs look fab in it. The blue jacket doesn't work. It's the wrong length.
I preferred the wedges with it. Although the clunky black boots make you look like a Victorian orphan which is very on-trend.
The whole point of a smock is that it looks smocky. Ignore the naysayers Wink
