Plus size in a Cos dress

I have an event (covid allowing) with lovely friends, some of whom are inctedibly stylish.

I am not stylish, but I do love clothes if that makes sense.

I bought this dress and I think I'm going to keep it, but wanted to get some opinions on here, if anyone would oblige!

I've put it with a navy, biker jacket in a very soft faux suede and espadrilles. But other options if weather is worse are these boots.

What do people think please? Be honest, I can take it... I think WinkGrin.

I am a size 16/18, apple shape.

I'm sorry, OP, also not a fan of the Cos dress! I do think they look a bit tent-like on almost everyone who isn't a model (and even the models have them pinned to look perfect in pics). The shape of the Seasalt dress is better, but I think you'd look lovely and elegant with a V-neckline and maybe something more fitted at the waist to emphasise your long legs.

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:08

How about buttoned up?

These are the fugly mary Jane's and the black boots.

The more I try on the dress, the more I like it!

It looks (dare I say it) quite Communist Chic.

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:15

Utilitarian chic maybe? I definitely could get on board with utilitarian chic Grin.

Good god that dress it awful.

You have fantastic legs and I love the red shoes. Sorry to be so negative but the dress wouldn't work for anyone, its not you, its the dress.

oobedobe · 11/07/2020 16:22

Not a fan of the Cos dress, you need to be dressing like the red head from Mad Men, fitted clothes to complement your curves and boobs, not covering everything in a sack.

The high neck and sleeve length are v unflattering.

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:26

The actress from Mad Men is absolutely stunning and I do love her style...however, don't all her outfits look incredibly uncomfortable? All the tight skirts and tucked in blouses etc. I'd also need All The Shapewear I think to pull off that look, so I'd be a bit hot and unable to eat anything or sit down or anything?

I like it with the boots, maybe unbuttoned a bit.

I don't subscribe to the "one must always dress to look slimmer approach".

inglory · 11/07/2020 16:27

Fashion is also about having fun & feeling good.

fascinated · 11/07/2020 16:31

Listen, if you like the Cos dress, why not? You just need to find a suitable top layer in case it’s chilly. Red shoes are good but I’m no fashionista.

By the way - I totally agree about the Mad Men Look being uncomfy. It is! I also don’t feel comfortable with my body so much on display, so I don’t always dress to emphasise it.

managedmis · 11/07/2020 16:32

What are you wearing the red shoes with? The blue dress?

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:35

The red shoes with the Cos dress, yes. It's more green than blue I think, but it does look blue in the pics for some reason.

I think the heavier shoe works better to balance the dress.

Looks like heavy Jesus type sandals are the thing, or sliders

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:43

I am leaning towards the red shoes. The dress is so nice to wear and especially with the shoes, it would be comfortable as no heels...

I will dig out the Hobbs coat and try it on over the top. I tried the kimono and the jumper and neither were right sadly.

I hear Cos refunds are slow at the mo and also saw something on here today about them being "in trouble". I'd rather have the dress, than no dress and no refund / having to chase refund for months. I'm sort of talking myself into keeping it Grin.

I've just bought a new pair of shoes, which were quite pricey and I really don't wear sandals very much, so I can't justify the Cos ones. I do like the look of them though and I saw a blogger in my dress with clunky sandals! She looked great. But she was much slimmer than I am.

IT'S HIDEOUS. HTH.

fascinated · 11/07/2020 16:45

You wear whatever you like OP!

inglory · 11/07/2020 16:46

says someone with the user name blue ugg boots 🤣

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:47

🤣🤣🤣🤣 @Blueuggboots, don't hold back or anything Wink.

I mean...hideous is so subjective though isn't it? Simone de Beauvoir thought Jean-Paul Sartre was beautiful... I think he was...not. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all.

OP posts:
Blueuggboots · 11/07/2020 16:49

Yes, I have a pair of blue ugg boots I wear in the comfort of my own home.
That green dress is not flattering in any way. It's really ugly and does absolutely nothing for the OP's perfectly nice figure.

DidoLamenting · 11/07/2020 16:49

The dress is lovely but I wouldn't wear it with bare legs. The jacket doesn't go at all with it. For a dress that short heels should be flat.

inglory · 11/07/2020 16:51

That's not true though as it's very flattering on her legs.

@LadyPrigsbottom

How about buttoned up?

The boots don't work at all and the shoes aren't much better. Black looks odd with a light coloured dress. I love the dress.
LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 16:52

Interesting @DidoLamenting...what sort of tights would you go for?

Would micronets look weird? Might try on later with different tights.

fascinated · 11/07/2020 16:53

I love the idea of having fun and trying sth new... the issue is that you then realise the rest of your stuff doesn’t really go with new piece... and it can be hard to build an outfit. Which is annoying!
