Plus size in a Cos dress

I have an event (covid allowing) with lovely friends, some of whom are inctedibly stylish.

I am not stylish, but I do love clothes if that makes sense.

I bought this dress and I think I'm going to keep it, but wanted to get some opinions on here, if anyone would oblige!

I've put it with a navy, biker jacket in a very soft faux suede and espadrilles. But other options if weather is worse are these boots.

What do people think please? Be honest, I can take it... I think WinkGrin.

I am a size 16/18, apple shape.

I do say @LadyPrigsbottom. Think Glasto /!Jo Whiley.

jonahcoh · 10/07/2020 19:35

I have quite a few dresses in the shape @fascinated & find them flattering.

I love Jo Whiley's style! Would also enjoy pretending I was at Glasto Wink.

That's beautiful @fascinated. Although...would it be massively hypocritical if I said I thought it was a tad too frilly for me? Yes 🙈?

Love the navy one too! Definitely a maybe for ordering to try on.

No, it is different, I see what you mean...

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:47

I think frills round my hips (fairly straight) are fine, but anything round my top half which draws a lot of attention might not work on me. Wouldn't rule it out though, but would definitely need to try on. It's a beautiful dress though and a lovely colour.

The only offputting thing about ordering loads to try on is that their returns at the moment apparently are very slow.

Im down a rabbit hole of hourglass clothing sites. Have found a few gorgeous ones but unfortunately I have nowhere to go at the moment!

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 19:52

Och I know @fascinated! I'm still dressing up dammit Grin. One day we will be able to go out and by God we will look outrageously good!

I love the green cos dress, but in biased as been eyeing it up myself for many months waiting in vain for it to return in my size! I think it really suits you op and looks fresh and a bit different. The second option is so safe and I'm sorry to say but imho very frumpy. It doesnt look bad on you but certainly not stylish.

Agree re no belt or jacket. The whole point of those cos dresses is their shape and lines and I wouldnt ruin that with breaking it up in the middle - that's why a longer jacket would look good. A longer blazer perhaps? I would wear maybe a cream summery blazer, definitely long to length of dress or beyond.

Blueuggboots · 11/07/2020 07:50

That dress does nothing for you!! It looks like a badly folded duvet.
You've got great legs and you really don't look plus size. I'm quite big but I wouldn't add bulk like that.
Get some good supportive undies and wear a smoother silhouette.

Bagelsandbrie · 11/07/2020 07:52

I’m surprised by the replies. I think the Cos dress is awful! ShockBlush I’m sorry if that makes me sound mean, I really don’t mean it to - you have amazing legs and I just think it does absolutely zero for you. The shape is all wrong, the bulk of it makes your bottom half look a lot bigger than I’m assuming it must be to have legs like that.

I think you need something more fitting across the hips / thighs. That’s just my opinion though and clearly others love the dress!

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 08:18

@Bagelsandbrie 😂😂 no, no, it definitely isn't just you! My favourite, negative comment is still, "weird vintage nurse dress", though. Closely followed by, "badly folded duvet".

I'm definitely not offended, as it is an unusual dress, which is why I like it. But I can also see that it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. I'm sort of on the fence myself. In some ways I love it, but in others, I can see it's a bit bonkers...

I'm going to keep trying different things with it. I really like the white blazer from Asos, thank you @Girlinajumpsuit.

The cos dress is too flouncy ..
I am same size as you and try to pretend I have a waist Even though I don’t really
You have fab legs too so show them off

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/07/2020 08:36

The Cos dress is definetly more interesting but just not quite right - though it shows off your legs well (your legs are lush!)

The navy one is safer but much more flattering.

CMMum88 · 11/07/2020 08:57

I like the cos dress, but not the shoes. I would go for a flat chelsea boot with it for a party.

CMMum88 · 11/07/2020 09:01

Also the buttons need to be done up to the collar.

CMMum88 · 11/07/2020 09:06

P.s not having a waist is fashionable! I need to learn to comment in one comment!

fascinated · 11/07/2020 13:04

If you decide to go all fashionable, wouldn’t you need fugly sandals? I hear they are the thing this summer...

LadyPrigsbottom · 11/07/2020 13:53

Actually @fascinated...I have some really ugly mary Jane's from Clark's... could wear it with the red, v neck I mentioned up thread, in response to @YellowandGreenToBeSeen.

Btw, anyone who hates the dress, is going to REALLY hate these shoes! Just a warning, before you open the pic. Some things, you can't unsee...
