I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/pintuck-puff-sleeve-mini-dress/037263.html?dwvar_037263_color=77&cgid=dresses

It’s just to wear about the house on warm days, maybe school run if we ever get back to school Smile on a hot day if I’m feeling brace enough.

I would wear it with trainers or flat Grecian sandals.

I’m size 10, good legs (well good thighs, my calves are skinny and shapeless)

I have no boobs or waist so this (shapeless) smock type of dress is usually the best style for me.

I would be buying from John Lewis not warehouse itself in case the upcoming administration scuppers orders! Poor warehouse staff Sad

But at 43: is this just too short?! I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33. I give far fewer fucks (just the occasional one) Grin

i don't imagine op has it lined up for a funeral.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 10:37

That’s harsh Anne. You don’t know the OP from a slice of cheese.

I'm not making any personal comments about the OP. I am making comments about how and where I think it's okay to where the dress or not to wear it. And in my opinion anyone who would wear this out and about in public, bear legged, as anything other than slung over a swimsuit, is probably a bit of a vain attention seeker who quite enjoys the idea that people can see her crotch.

If you do not enjoy this idea OP then do yourself a favour and don't buy the dress.

PhoneLock · 17/04/2020 10:39

Don't bears have very hairy legs?

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 17/04/2020 10:40

I doubt OP's legs are that hairy Ann. Grin

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 10:41

Look, @AnnUumellemahaye, just because you want to flash the old minge in public doesn't mean we're all the same.

squirrelsbizaar · 17/04/2020 10:41

The dress won't ride up because its loose fitting cotton shift dress. When wearer is sat down dress can be manoeuvred to cover knickers and upper thighs.

At most you might get a flash of knickers, in a gust of wind. I would seriously worry for anyone offended by that. Kate Middleton seems to have a rode out the shame of flashing us hers, so sure the op can cope.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 10:43

It WILL ride up when she sits on a chair, gets in and out of a car, bends or crouches down, the wind blows, She has an over-body handbag strap, or a hundred other things.

sHREDDIES19 · 17/04/2020 10:43

I really can't equate this dress with someone who is being a "vain attention seeker"! It's actually quite demure as the shoulders and chest area are covered, it's black, plus the length is likely to be a few inches above the knee on an average height woman. Pearl clutching at its finest. Just buy the dress, it's perfectly fine.

MrsGrindah · 17/04/2020 10:46

Don’t go up stairs

tontie · 17/04/2020 10:46

Just because you have great boobs is it okay to go shopping in nipple tassles?

So you're equating a short dress to nipple tassels, ok....

The dress is just too short to wear bear legged

Anyone with bear legs should probably go to the GP!

tontie · 17/04/2020 10:48

You can wear short dresses without wanting or needing to "flash your crotch"

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 17/04/2020 10:49

anyone who would wear this out and about in public, bear legged - has bigger existential problems than their frock!

You'd definitely clutch your pearls if you met me.

happyjack12 · 17/04/2020 10:50

get it, try it :)
i've a couple of pairs of ..err..long line knickers? look like cycling shorts with lace around the bottom, so if you do flash, no issue!

tontie · 17/04/2020 10:50

It may ride up but that doesn't equal flashing your crotch does it? My crotch is at the top of my legs not between my knees, I thought it was similar for 🐻?

sHREDDIES19 · 17/04/2020 10:51

@PhoneLock - wow, just wow. If I had those legs they would never be covered!

squirrelsbizaar · 17/04/2020 10:54

The dress is loose fitting, it barely even touches the body. To ride up it would need dome traction to move i.e. something to grip on, which this dress doesn't have.
Crouching down appropriately will not expose anything. Getting out of a car appropriately will not expose anything. The boxy style of the dress will probably cover more of the leg when sitting down.
I think you can generally tell the difference between someone courting attention and someone just going about their business, the op doesn't come across like the former.
Its says a lot about you that you choose to interpret someone getting our their car and showing a bit of knicker as attention seeking, as opposed to someone just getting out of a car.

You seem to think that the definition of demure or modest is purely about covering your chest/breasts.

So you're equating a short dress to nipple tassels, ok...

Yes. I am. Too much flesh is not appropriate for most ordinary daytime settings. I don't really care which end of the body it comes from. Besides, It's not the amount of leg on display so much as the likelihood that people will get an eyeful of either your crotch or your arse cheeks at some point.

Don't go upstairs

Exactly. Anyone at the bottom of the stairs either behind you watching you go up, or below you watching you come down is going to see more than just your legs. As I said, if you don't mind that, knock yourself out. Personally it would make me deeply uncomfortable.

Nearlyalmost50 · 17/04/2020 10:59

My teens wear denim minis all the time in summer (as well as short denim shorts) and I see them non-stop sitting at home etc, you don't even see their pants, let alone anything else! Some of the comments on here are obnoxious.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 11:02

Christ, are you looking at the same dress as me? Its hem is a damn sight closer to the model's crotch than it is to her knees.

sHREDDIES19 · 17/04/2020 11:02

I think @AnnUumellemahaye is on a wind-up mission here.

orangeblosssom · 17/04/2020 11:04

It's a lovely top.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 11:07

Shorts are different because they cover your knickers. Although personally I don't like those tiny shorts that have your arse cheeks hanging out at the back. Again, it's not so much the item of clothing itself, but how/when/where it's worn. There is a time and a place for some outfits and the high street or the office or the school run isn't it.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 11:08

@shREDDIES19 no I'm not. I'm really not. I'm deadly serious.

tontie · 17/04/2020 11:09

Jesus, mary mother of god @AnnUumellemahaye you need to get out more!
