I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/pintuck-puff-sleeve-mini-dress/037263.html?dwvar_037263_color=77&cgid=dresses

It’s just to wear about the house on warm days, maybe school run if we ever get back to school Smile on a hot day if I’m feeling brace enough.

I would wear it with trainers or flat Grecian sandals.

I’m size 10, good legs (well good thighs, my calves are skinny and shapeless)

I have no boobs or waist so this (shapeless) smock type of dress is usually the best style for me.

I would be buying from John Lewis not warehouse itself in case the upcoming administration scuppers orders! Poor warehouse staff Sad

But at 43: is this just too short?! I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33. I give far fewer fucks (just the occasional one) Grin

I suspect perhaps because I’m very very very lazy (you have no idea) and move (even to bend down) as little as humanly possible I probably haven’t thought through the whole moving/bending/leaning issue quite as thoroughly as I should Grin

I think it’s nice! Your age isn’t an issue at all.

I bought something similar from Zara a couple of months ago, really versatile

NarniaBanarnia · 16/04/2020 22:12

Well this is the point yukka; my legs (thighs) are by far my best body part. I would love to wear a dress that got my boobs out a bit but I’m totally flat chested. I love curves but have none so look shit in curve-clinging things. I also hate my upper body in summer as I have loads of little moles and don’t like exposing my chest/shoulders/back.

Covered up all over except my legs suits me down to the ground!

I’d wear it at 50. It’s lovely.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/04/2020 22:14

Will it be the same length on you? I’m 5’2” and dresses like that tend to be a lot longer on me! But loose and short is tricky because it’s harder to tell if you’re flashing. I do like it, though - v sophisticated! I would buy it if I were you.

NarniaBanarnia · 16/04/2020 22:16

Good point cheddar; I’m 5 foot 8 (tho I’m
Sure the model is taller than that) so yes good point it certainly wouldn’t end up much longer on me no.

If you have the legs for it, go for it. It's certainly not too short.

BubblesBuddy · 16/04/2020 22:47

Don’t bend over. It’s more holiday wear with a tan in my view.

ToothlessAndHiccup · 16/04/2020 22:52

Like it. Wear it with short cycling short type things and be totally down with the kidz Grin

PolloDePrimavera · 16/04/2020 23:01

I'm 43 and would happily wear it, even though I hate my knees. But like you, with something flat.

Imboredinthehouse · 16/04/2020 23:09

Too short.
I say this as someone a similar age with fantastic thighs. My best (hidden) feature.
At home fine, change for school run. Kids drop thing, laces need redoing.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/04/2020 23:18

Im almost 40 and wouldn’t wear it on the school run but I don’t generally get my legs out unless at home or on holiday. I don’t think anyone should give a shit - if you feel good in something then wear it - you’ve got to have the confidence (and legs) to carry it off though.

Fidgety31 · 16/04/2020 23:21

I think it would show your vag - so it’s too short regardless of age if not worn with tights/leggings

EvilEdna1 · 16/04/2020 23:30

It's fine if you just stay standing up completely still like the model.

Mrstwiddle · 16/04/2020 23:35

Waayy too short, but obviously your choice.

TheStuffedPenguin · 16/04/2020 23:36

It depends how tall you are ...

TheStuffedPenguin · 16/04/2020 23:37

OOPs just saw - yes it would probably be too short in that case..

Runningonempty84 · 16/04/2020 23:43

Too short IMO. Nothing to do with age, or size or shape - it's just too short for anyone to be worn without leggings underneath (which would ruin the look anyway). Unless you want to flash your vagina, that is.

It's annoying, as it's a very nice dress. Just another inch or two would make it wearable.

HotMess21 · 16/04/2020 23:43

You will absolutely rock this dress; go for it!

pictish · 16/04/2020 23:47

How does one sit down in a dress like that? I take it the legs have to be very tightly clamped together. I am far too lazy to clamp legs for a dress.

RitmoRatmo · 16/04/2020 23:53

Nothing to do with age (I totally disagree with the “age-appropriate” rubbish... but I’d worry about that length dress on anyone of any age, as it’s just too knicker-flashing for my taste.

SnowfallSnowball · 16/04/2020 23:55

I’d say because of your height it might be a bit short, although with tights you could do it! It’s a lovely dress though. Very have a dress pretty similar:
www.very.co.uk/v-by-very-crepe-smock-dress-black/1600417609.prd

Also I probably wouldn’t buy anything from Warehouse as they’ve gone into administration, you might not receive it!

crimsonlake · 16/04/2020 23:57

As long as you do not bend ove...wear leggings.

MorrisZapp · 17/04/2020 00:01

Mate that's a blouse. It's lovely but the model literally looks like she's forgotten her trousers.

PhoneLock · 17/04/2020 00:17

Just don't bend over. Clamp your knees together and squat. It soon becomes second nature.
