I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/pintuck-puff-sleeve-mini-dress/037263.html?dwvar_037263_color=77&cgid=dresses

It’s just to wear about the house on warm days, maybe school run if we ever get back to school Smile on a hot day if I’m feeling brace enough.

I would wear it with trainers or flat Grecian sandals.

I’m size 10, good legs (well good thighs, my calves are skinny and shapeless)

I have no boobs or waist so this (shapeless) smock type of dress is usually the best style for me.

I would be buying from John Lewis not warehouse itself in case the upcoming administration scuppers orders! Poor warehouse staff Sad

But at 43: is this just too short?! I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33. I give far fewer fucks (just the occasional one) Grin

I don’t love it personally but I don’t think it’s inappropriate in any way - if you love it, get it!

1forAll74 · 17/04/2020 02:00

It's a bit drab, thought it was a maternity dress at first. But it's not too short though.

sam221 · 17/04/2020 02:47

I haven't read all the comments but this pandemic has taught me, to not give a toss about what others think. If you like it, go for it, buy it and enjoy it!!!

eaglejulesk · 17/04/2020 03:36

It's a lovely dress - go for it and enjoy Daffodil

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/04/2020 03:56

Bloody hope not because I am 47 next month and I bought one in a similar style, although bardot, thats the same length!

Peppafrig · 17/04/2020 04:17

In short yes it is .

Skippingabeat · 17/04/2020 04:22

Definitely not too old!!!

I was walking with my son near the beach a couple of weeks ago and I saw a woman who looked at least in her sixties wearing a dress that looked just like this one and as short.
She looked fit and had great legs and very white hair. Very stylish!

Hipsterjoe · 17/04/2020 04:25

God there’s some boring people out there. Wear black pants and enjoy, this is a great dress

StarlightLady · 17/04/2020 04:47

I’m a similar age. I don’t think it’s too short, but not one for work. Which you have said you don’t want it for.

I wouldn’t wear it with leggings as some suggested, because, personally, dresses and leggings together are not my style.

I’m a little puzzled though about the number of people on the thread who consider doing cartwheels without their knickers on! Grin

moomoomummy · 17/04/2020 05:24

This thread has made me realise how much more Australian than British I am becomming. I am 50 and wear short dresses , v short denim shorts as do most people here. I went to the Post Office yesterday in my Bikini after having a surf and noone bats an eyelid. Wear this dress and enjoy showing off your beautiful legs while you can !!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 17/04/2020 05:41

Ooh I love that! Shame it's black as it doesn't suit me but I love the style. Not too short at all.

ZaraW · 17/04/2020 06:00

It's a lovely dress, definitely buy it but no leggings.

Downunderduchess · 17/04/2020 06:01

Love it, so versatile too, wear it & enjoy

moomoomummy · 17/04/2020 06:01

My legs.... Too short for 50?

I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?
CarlottaValdez · 17/04/2020 06:09

Nobody is going to see her “vag” as OP is likely to be wearing knickers FFS.

eaglejulesk · 17/04/2020 06:24

@moomoomummy - wow, wish my legs were as good as yours!

@CarlottaValdez - thanks for saying that. I had been wondering if knickers were no longer being worn in the UK

Does no-one here remember what young women wore in the 60s?

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 06:28

@AnnUumellemahaye See I usually wear pants so people don't see my vulva, not sure about you.

The only person who sees my vag is the nurse who does my smear.

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 06:30

And to OP, definitely not too short, whatever your age.

And don't wear it with leggings, I thought we'd gotten over that particular style monstrosity.

Baxdream · 17/04/2020 06:35

Definitely wear it!

I agree with the last poster about leggings- I've disregarded anyone's opinion on here who wears dresses with leggings!

CountFosco · 17/04/2020 06:39

Don't wear it with leggings, that would change a lovely sundress into frumparama. Like a PP I'm short so seek out these very short dresses, on me that would be a great length, and still a mini. As a PP said, wear some comfy black knickers and if someone gets a flash so what? It's just a piece of cotton.

NarniaBanarnia · 17/04/2020 06:55

Grin I don’t wear leggings under dresses but I DO wear knickers, oddly enough Halo and usually a good sturdy pair at that.

Haven’t turned a cartwheel in 35 years either.

My school run is a drive followed by a 25 yard walk but in fairness I probably wouldn’t end up with the balls (or the vag?) to wear it on the school run anyway... also honestly if DD drops anything I crouch to help her rather than bend as I have a dodgy lower back and if I bend I might never stand up again... maybe I’m really 83 and therefore definitely too old for this dress!

Anyway my point really is just that what with always wearing massive knickers, rarely exiting my home and never bending down, I probably hadn’t taken into account the shortness factor in and of itself, just the age-related part.

Anyway I’m going to order and see what it’s like on.

Thanks everyone, didn’t expect so many replies! Much appreciated.

Also moo moo you have fabulous legs and I’m very envious of your Middleton-esque calves. My calves are like Megan Markle’s, scrawny as hell, but sadly the rest of me looks nothing like Megan.

midnightstar66 · 17/04/2020 06:58

No it looks fab, I'm 40 and would wear it. I'm similar size and shape to you. Things are usually extra short on me as I've a long torso so I sometimes pop denim shorts underneath but I'm definitely in the fuck it camp... wear what you like Smile

zippyswife · 17/04/2020 07:02

I’m the same age as you with good legs too. I’d definitely wear it. In fact I might buy it too.

tontie · 17/04/2020 07:08

Surely the most important thing is height, as the model is likely to be taller then it's fine. Im 5ft10 & often find high street hemlines are just too short but Warehouse are normally ok.
