I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/pintuck-puff-sleeve-mini-dress/037263.html?dwvar_037263_color=77&cgid=dresses

It’s just to wear about the house on warm days, maybe school run if we ever get back to school Smile on a hot day if I’m feeling brace enough.

I would wear it with trainers or flat Grecian sandals.

I’m size 10, good legs (well good thighs, my calves are skinny and shapeless)

I have no boobs or waist so this (shapeless) smock type of dress is usually the best style for me.

I would be buying from John Lewis not warehouse itself in case the upcoming administration scuppers orders! Poor warehouse staff Sad

But at 43: is this just too short?! I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33. I give far fewer fucks (just the occasional one) Grin

The model might not be particularly tall anyway. Many aren’t.

🤣

battlestargalactica · 17/04/2020 09:18

not too short. but paired with cycle shorts for unexpected gusts.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 09:29

Cycle shorts would be longer than the dress.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 09:32

Which is when you know it really is too short.

Honestly, unless you are a blatant attention seeker who gets a thrill out of accidenally on purpose flashing your knickers, why would you even consider this?

There is nothing worse than seeing someone wearing a dress that is stupidly short and watching them coyly giggling while they constantly pulling it down and trying to stop it riding up when they sit down, bend over, get in and out of a car, or whatever. Yes love - you knew we'd all be able to see what you have for dinner but you wore it anyway. Cop onto yourself.

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 09:35

@annuumellemahaye why not just write "I hate women" and be done with it

daisypond · 17/04/2020 09:38

*tontie
Many models are not especially tall. A friend of mine is a model - and is five seven. She’s too short to do catwalk but is very, very successful. Featured in Vogue etc.

tontie · 17/04/2020 09:40

@daisypond that's BS because I used to do modelling. The vast majority of models are over 5ft 8 even for editorial. Kate Moss was an exception, hence why her height is often discussed.

StarlightLady · 17/04/2020 09:41

@ammUumellemahaye - Such male driven attitude.

@YesThatIsMyRealName - Flowers

MayFayner · 17/04/2020 09:42

Cop on to yourself 😂 Yeah OP- get back into athleisure wear and a fleece from Dunnes for the school run like a normal person 😂

I think it’s lovely. I’d you are one of those gazelle-limbed people (which your description of yourself makes me think you are) then it will look great. Very flat sandals would be perfect.

And even if you do only really end up wearing it around the house, so what. It will be nice and cool on summer days.

daisypond · 17/04/2020 09:47

I can assure you that it is not BS. Many models may be taller but not all. My friend was spotted in the street, and lack of height did not matter in her case.

VettiyaIruken · 17/04/2020 09:58

Age isn't a factor but one good gust of wind on the school run and you'll never be forgotten 😂

tontie · 17/04/2020 09:59

Where have I said that models can't be 5ft 7? Devon Aoki was 5ft 3. What's BS is that most models aren't particularly tall. In the same vein most models are white that doesn't mean BAME models aren't successful. Or most models are young but again there are some very successful older models.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2020 10:03

Ha ha pointing out poor style choices is internalised misogyny. Really?

tontie · 17/04/2020 10:10

@borntobequiet show us what you wear?

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 10:13

I don't hate women. I bloody love women. I am one.

I hate bad taste, vain people and blatant attention seekers. of both sexes.

Jacalouse · 17/04/2020 10:14

I'm 50, got that dress and I love it! 😁

MargotEmin · 17/04/2020 10:16

What would Grace Jones do?

tontie · 17/04/2020 10:17

I hate bad taste, vain people and blatant attention seekers.

So do I, but what relevance is that to a loose, high collared dress that shows some thigh?

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 17/04/2020 10:19

I don't know why your age is relevant to the question OP.

I like the dress, definitely worth a punt, see how you feel in it. You can always send it back. You're not going to know if it's comfortable or feels too short etc until you try it.

pictish · 17/04/2020 10:21

That’s harsh Anne. You don’t know the OP from a slice of cheese.

Bluesheep8 · 17/04/2020 10:27

Age isn't relevant here. Having slim perfectly toned, blemish free legs is vital.

squirrelsbizaar · 17/04/2020 10:27

Surely anyone wearing a short skirt, unless they have exhibitionist tendencies, would crouch to pick something up, rather than bend over and expose themselves. Would also presume op would be wearing knickers with said attire. So no one is going to see vag, unless the op wants them to.
Personally I'm not keen on the dress, but if you have the legs for it go for it.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 10:32

The dress is just too short to wear bear legged unless you are on a beach. It doesn't matter how great your legs are, it's not appropriate and when it rides up and shows your crotch (which it most certainly will unless you are a statue) others around you will not know where to look for the best. Why would you want to put people in that position?

Just because you have great boobs is it okay to go shopping in nipple tassles? Of course not. For the same reasons. We know you have legs/boobs. We don't need to see ALL of them.

As for bad taste, it's not bad taste per se, it's quite nice. For the beach. Or with leggings. So do I, but what relevance is that to a loose, high collared dress that shows some thigh?

As for bad taste, the dress itself is not bad taste, it's quite nice. But how/where you choose to wear it could be perceived to be in bad taste.

PhoneLock · 17/04/2020 10:34

I starting to wonder if some on here cover up the legs on their furniture too.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 17/04/2020 10:35

I agree, and it sucks coz mine are none of those things!
