I’m 43 is this dress too short for me?

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/pintuck-puff-sleeve-mini-dress/037263.html?dwvar_037263_color=77&cgid=dresses

It’s just to wear about the house on warm days, maybe school run if we ever get back to school Smile on a hot day if I’m feeling brace enough.

I would wear it with trainers or flat Grecian sandals.

I’m size 10, good legs (well good thighs, my calves are skinny and shapeless)

I have no boobs or waist so this (shapeless) smock type of dress is usually the best style for me.

I would be buying from John Lewis not warehouse itself in case the upcoming administration scuppers orders! Poor warehouse staff Sad

But at 43: is this just too short?! I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33. I give far fewer fucks (just the occasional one) Grin

It's only to short if it has your butt hanging out. Otherwise enjoy!

pictish · 17/04/2020 07:16

Look, you want this dress so badly you’re even claiming you never bend down anyway.
Buy it.

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 07:17

"I've disregarded anyone's opinion on here who wears dresses with leggings!"

I can't believe it is still happening. How can anyone think it looks good?

DanceWithYourBalloon · 17/04/2020 07:20

It's fine! 😊

I don't know how tall you are but remember the models in these pics are always about 5ft 10 or something, so it might come up longer on you anyway!

zippyswife · 17/04/2020 07:29

@moomoomummy great legs.

MargotEmin · 17/04/2020 07:30

OP this is Mumsnet, really not the place to ask for style advice - not unless you want to come away looking like Kirsty Allsop.

Buy the dress.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2020 07:36

It’s too short for the model, and makes her look an odd shape.

Tableclothing · 17/04/2020 07:39

Puff sleeves make me think of Grayson Perry.

MargotEmin · 17/04/2020 07:41

borntobequiet it really, really doesn't. It's a completely normal summer dress on a completely normal young woman.

The internalised misogyny on this thread is unreal. Nobody polices mens clothing choices like this.

lastburritos · 17/04/2020 07:49

I think it looks fine when standing like the model is. I've always found that short dresses in the hot summer get crinkled at the back when I'm sitting down so that they're even shorter when I then stand up. Argh!

Floisme · 17/04/2020 08:06

Looks fine - I read the comments before I opened the link and expected much shorter. Plus I've not seen how tall you are but think the chances are the model will be taller. But I think the key thing is whether you will feel self conscious in it? Will you be forever tugging it down? Because I see that a lot and It never looks good.

daisypond · 17/04/2020 08:12

I think it’s too short for anyone, even if you were 20. The model might not be particularly tall anyway. Many aren’t.

dottiedodah · 17/04/2020 08:13

Its a little short IMHO .Trouble is on a School run you would probably be bending down and so on and maybe concious of "flashing"your underwear!Maybe wear with some shorts or good for hols if we ever get unlocked!

Sammysquiz · 17/04/2020 08:30

Hasn’t Warehouse gone into administration?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 17/04/2020 08:33

The dress will only be short for you when you decree that it's too short for you. So, no: it isn't. And it looks great Smile

NarniaBanarnia · 17/04/2020 08:34

Pictish Grin its all part of my drive to make as few movements as I can get away with. I resent even walking across a (Small) room if someone else is there to fetch something for me Wink

OP, following on from my earlier comments, l’m pleased you have ordered it. In your shoes some of the negative comments on here would make me more determined to wear and enjoy it.

In the warm weather, l don’t always wear knickers with (longer) sun dresses. I would with this one, just in case, simples!

And l wouldn’t suffer wellbeing issues or need counselling if once in a blue moon somebody saw my knix. There’s some on the washing line as l write this.

sHREDDIES19 · 17/04/2020 08:44

I wouldn’t wear it only because my legs are my least favourite part. But seeing as you’ve got great legs, definitely go for it! It’s hardly up your arse. My best feature is my small waist so I’ve been known to wear a crop top (and I’m 41😁). I personally believe that what other people think should have no bearing on our choices. It’s lovely and subtle.

BubblesBuddy · 17/04/2020 08:46

Mine just stay in the tumble dryer. Some flash the pants to the neighbours and some of us don’t.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 17/04/2020 08:46

Never let age, shape or the opinion of anyone else dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear. This is why the majority of my friends are male - they tend not to give a stuff.

AnnUumellemahaye · 17/04/2020 08:58

Never let age, shape or the opinion of anyone else dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear.

That is such bad advice. Unless you don't mind the thought of people laughing at you behind your back.

Crazycrazylady · 17/04/2020 09:10

I think it's beach wear . I definitely wouldn't wear it on the school run as at 5'8 it will be grazing your bum.

MarshaBradyo · 17/04/2020 09:12

It is short, I’d save it for the beach. Although not sure you’d love it for the beach even and want something less full at the top.

Fedup2020 · 17/04/2020 09:14

Do it, looks nice

sHREDDIES19 · 17/04/2020 09:14

@AnnUumellemahaye - who laughs at people behind their back for wearing stuff that reveals a bit of leg?! Says much more about them than the person wearing it. I think we should all practice the art of not batting an eyelid.
