Ah that's what I used to think about the teaser. Turns out it's back strength. I can't do them now because I've deteriorated, but I was really good at them last year sob (for a 45-year-old woman who isnt' athletic). Do the killer abs thing but slowly then it'll be worse It was only the series of five that moved fast. Grin I'm determined to get my strength back but it's hard without a reformer or Cadillac. :((((

Floisme · 01/04/2020 09:44

I quite liked the Saint and Sofia V neck jumper in red - nice slouchy shape and might hang really well. But I wouldn't order it online from a random store. I wouldn't even do that in normal times - I'd want to see it for real in a shop. I clocked the Camden trousers too but thought they looked a bit stiff.

Twothirds - I'm afraid that photo of the bloody sea got my hackles up, which isn't their fault and they've probably had it for ages. I'm impressed at you spotting the T shirt flaws bo, what are they? But I'm also trying to support ethical retailers so I'll give them a closer look, although I do wonder why they don't just name their suppliers if their ethics are half as good as they say. There may be reasons I'm not aware of but some stores seem to manage it.

I just don't understand bag love so Mirta is not for me and I'm afraid I can't get past bo's description of unrolled condom hat man on the alpaca site.

The tailored harems are harem style trousers but in a very light wool. I bought them in Barcelona (I think) and they obviously thought, 'Look, Brit on holiday - get the silly trousers out!' They're a shocker. The shape isn't exaggerated enough so think of the droppiest, saggiest linen trousers you've ever owned and times it a zillion and you still won't be there. Also the fabric had hardly any stretch so you didn't even have the ease of movement you normally get with harems - the low crotch pulled across my knees so I couldn't run upstairs, which is pretty much my only exercise at the moment as I can't go out for another few days.

So today I'm back in more standard jeans and Harris tweed jacket, which is the kind of thing I often wear to the office and is an attempt to inject myself with a bit of work ethic (clearly not working as I'm on here).

Floisme · 01/04/2020 09:47

Ha ha, it took me so long to type that I'd missed all your posts. Thank you bo Grin I might see if I can turn that into a screensaver.

Floisme · 01/04/2020 09:49

There's a squirrel on our window ledge right now and it's the size of a cat. They'll be here long after we've all gone, I'm telling you.

And that, my friends, is my nature lesson for today.

botemp · 01/04/2020 10:05

You're getting in a bit of a Kafka headspace, Flo, the squirrels are not coming to eat you, I promise...

I'll come back later with t-shirt flaws.

Just realised I may be the socially inept employee.

botemp · 01/04/2020 19:07

Does that make me Greta the mad cat cleaning lady 🙀

Alright I had marker fun with the t-shirts, a lot of it is just too much or too little fabric, poor seam work and lack of symmetry as a consequence of the material not sitting properly/sewn properly. Things that should lay flat just aren't, I'll give some leeway as it's being photographed on a flat surface but there's only so much I can excuse. There's just too much puckering and pulling for me to believe it's just an issue of presentation.

Redandblue11 · 01/04/2020 20:02

I am still alive , just unable to concentrate properly on the very entertaining chatter above. But I am enjoying .

Redandblue11 · 01/04/2020 20:03

Enjoying it. The chatter I mean

XingMing · 01/04/2020 22:10

No company that hopes to sell a Tshirt should post that picture.

Floisme · 02/04/2020 09:24

God you're good - I'd have never spotted any of them but they're so obviously wrong once it's pointed out. I wish I'd paid more attention in sewing, or 'needlework' as they called it then.

So last night I got sunsets. I think the world is just trolling me now. The horizon's going up in flames and I'm meant to find it comforting?

botemp · 02/04/2020 09:42

I probably notice it because that's approximately what my handiwork looks like Blush

Today's sunset antidote before I get back to dusting with a cat Grin

Thank you Smile what I do find quite comforting is knowing there are still Grinches out there grinching, and that the world hasn't quite turned to saccharine .

Anyone watched 'Contagion' yet?

Popping in to say to the sewing people: look at this dress
improvisedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/commes-des-garcon-black-dress..jpg

(as seen here improvisedlife.com/2017/05/09/rei-kawakubos-creative-manifesto/) and check out this vintage pattern explanation to make it

Keep yourselves busy like.

quirkychick · 02/04/2020 20:41

Popping in to say hi and I'm still here. I feel I've been busy trying to homeschool dd2. Just trying to get her into some kind of routine, which she desperately needs. Yesterday, was not a good day, early waking, meltdowns etc. today has been better. It's officially the Easter holidays now, but I daren't muck up the routine at home.

I upped my game a bit and wore my toast fold over trousers, as they're comfy, loose and easy. Then discovered the hem has come undone and fixed it temporarily with safety pins Grin. I think invisible hemming might be the extent of my sewing. I have been wearing my breton cap on my ventures outside, which is warm enough and stays put in the wind and shelters my eyes from the sun on warmer days. Dd1 has gone from laughing that I look like a sailor to openly coveting it.

The magnet man is very amusing.

XingMing · 03/04/2020 10:09

Flippin' heck bani, that class is beyond my strength. I was getting on fine, and then she started on the rollup sequence 12 minutes in. Back to Cassy Ho, or my teachers whose classes are tough enough for geriatrics anyone over 60!

ToEllewithIt · 03/04/2020 11:51

Flo - I thoroughly enjoyed the vivid description of your harem trousers.

Bani those dresses are fantastic.

I've been taking 15 mintue breaks from WFH and trying to asses 5 clothing items at a time and sort into perfect/cleaning/alterations/vestiare/charity shop / textile recycling bundles and so far most items are making it into the first 2. I'm not making as many mistakes as I used to thanks to this thread. I even retried some things from last year that I was having a dilemma over keeping as they were too small and now they fit. One was a skirt that I was really emotionally attached to so I'm properly delighted with that. I'll pop a photo below as it's hard to do proper photos on this remote session.

I'm trying to resist online shopping, but I am eyeing up this www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/blouses-shirts/blouses/product.ruffle-collar-silk-shirt-white.0674367002.html to go with the celine skirt - will it turn it too Little Women though? I feel like you need the shades to make it cool and I can't wear those in the office.

I also love this green dress but it's hard to read with no model photos and god only knows what the tassle tie is? www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/maxi-dresses/product.sleeveless-silk-midi-dress-green.0730922001.html

I also like this www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/product.linen-blend-wrap-mini-dress-black.0722809003.html

I wouldn't order right now so I'm just window shopping for the moment.

Also below are pictures of the vintage JPG that I bought at a consignment on the Paris trip. It's a power jacket in the best possible way.

Hope you're all keeping well.

Very envious of the jacket Elle but I'm also smitten by that green dress: simple shape, strong colour and even pockets. I can't see the toggle thing but it looks so elegant and, despite my finances, I'd have been very tempted if it hadn't been sleeveless. I'm a bit Hmm at a polyester lining on a silk dress too,but anyway.

Shirts with a pie crust collar don't do it for me, I'm afraid. They always make me think of Princess Diana, newly married and trussed up like a Bernard Matthews turkey.

quirkychick · 03/04/2020 16:03

Gorgeous jacket, Elle, what a find.

Lol flo with Princess Diana as a trussed up turkey. I know exactly what you mean, that is a lovely blouse, Elle, but I'm old enough to associate them with pedal pushers.

Chochito · 03/04/2020 19:00

Hey, I've just found out I am moving to Paris. I love this thread even though I feel to shy to post.

Hope everyone is OK, and your loved ones, and most of all enjoying some confinement fashions.

Redandblue11 · 03/04/2020 19:41

Love the skirt Elle, the jackets are nice but from my angle they look too ‘severe‘ might be the angle and lack of full picture, on the other hand a bit of kick-ass look is always good.

No need to be shy “chochito Smile

I want to report some nice fashion updates but I am afraid I have none. Other than I got my Japanesse robe made with vintage kimono fabric and I have ironed it and I need to hand saw bits were the stitching is getting loose.

botemp · 03/04/2020 21:17

Sorry, I can't stand pie collar crusts either, they remind me of a horrid history teacher I had. She was the epitome of uptight ill adjusted English woman abroad with a superiority complex and judgemental to boot that gives everyone else a bad name. Apparently she was alright once you got a few bottles of champagne into her Confused

I'm nonplussed too about a polyester lining in a silk dress, the silk must not be of stellar quality/not weighty enough if it needs a polyester lining to make it work but it makes it rather useless in any sort of heat.

I love the JPG blazer but you knew that already as I was there when you found it. Like the skirt a lot as well, it's giving me very strong Prada vibes.

Ah no need for shyness Cho, I'm very EnvyEnvyEnvy though about your move to Paris. Sign up to Arlettie once you get there, they organise all the sample sales in town. My little Paris blog/newsletter is also great for settling in, though the French version is more active than the English one.

I remembered to take an odd angle pic this morning of my confinement garbs, my new Chloe trousers that I really should have given a steam Blush that I managed to casual down a bit with a white t-shirt and black camisole underneath because I've not bothered with a bra for over a month now to sort of blend into grey together to go with the trousers. Feel a bit of a clochard next to Elle in her power suit. I think I've forgotten what the outside world looks like...

My sewing machine parts that needed replacing and a few other bits have come in so I may get sewing this weekend but I really want to hand wash all my jumpers first and store them away. It's going to be 20° on Sunday and for most of the week,🤞that everyone stays in their own gardens as it looks like our curve is flattening and we want it to stay that way.

I've spotted a dress at Cos, it sort of looks like a normal sleeveless shirt dress but then it buttons up into something sculptural, also comes in navy can't decide which colour I prefer. It's really something I would like to just see in the shops though...

And the navy.

I'm also intrigued by this silk shirt with intentional puckering. I kind of like it it's like it's got whiskers but maybe I'm losing touch with reality...
