I do like Haakon. Like his father, he insisted on marrying for love in spite of opposition in certain quarters. And I think that time has proved that they both made excellent choices.

Re Mette Marit I remember watching a documentary of king Olav, CP Haakon's grandfather. All of his various grandchildren were interviewed and sat remembering things about him. One of my favourite stories was that apparently he was a bit afraid of the Queen Mother. They had both been widowed in middle age (around 50) and apparently there was speculation they would make a suitable couple. She was a bit keen, he was not and tried to avoid certain situations and used his grandchildren as shields (they were all fondly giggling at these memories). Apparently she was in Norway at some point for some official thing or other and one way or another her wardrobe and hats had arrived and while the grandkids were waiting for the great Lady herself they amused themselves with trying on all her hats
