Queen the press never was/will be your friend. I’m starting to see that Kate really got very sound advice at the beginning of her marriage and stayed low.
Meghan did everything Kate didn’t do at her early days and when the press started comparing both women to each other it was just too good.

Suddenly Kate , who was ridiculed for many things, was The DM sweetheart, but that didn’t stop them hinting about the Rose thing because again it’s too good of a gossip to let go of.

The blanket story is a DM story , if H&M felt hurt by a story published by a Newspaper known to be very anti non White heritage then they are really both very foolish!

I think if all there choices are based on DM stores then it’s DM who won am afraid .

It's this attitude I've struggled with. That if the papers print things that just aren't true, they're supposed to just suck it up? Criticism (eg the way they handled Archie's birth) is very difficult to outright lies and seeing ways to attach people. And I think as a society we're in a very sad place if we think that this kind of thing should just be accepted as the price you pay for being famous or rich.

astralweaks · 10/01/2020 10:32

This is stupendous. Priorities or what?

As the Sussexes plan to become 'financially independent,' FEMAIL reveals the Duchess has worn £947,132 worth of clothes since marrying Prince Harry.

Good lord.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 10/01/2020 10:33

@QueenOfTheAndals agree with @MotherofPearl it is Ursula Von Der Leyen. Recently had meeting with Boris in London. Ex German Defence Minister and taken over from Junker (or Donald Tusk?) in the EU.

beanaseireann · 10/01/2020 10:34

Yes MotherofPearl. It is Ursula Von der Leyen. President of the EU.

astralweaks · 10/01/2020 10:34

I think it’s safe to say that figure will be pretty accurate given the astonishing cost of the engagement dress alone.

Yes, that's pretty much how I feel about it too @BlingLoving. Just because something has always been bad doesn't make it ok and doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged.

And I'm not sure why people expected Meghan to do exactly as Kate did when they were at very different stages in their lives when they married. It seems like Meghan fully intended to become a working royal. Her actions in her first year or so - the Australia tour, the Hubb cookbook, the clothing collection for Smartworks - indicates this. She comes across as fairly business-minded and the RF could've used that to their advantage.

I agree that the DM has probably won though. But now they've got what they wanted and they're still complaining!

The greatest cod ever is how the English managed to sell themselves as blundering mealy-mouthed "do pardon me sir, no no entirely my fault" Hugh Grant-character types in the glaring face of colonialism per primo but also football hooligans and other general wide-spread anti-social behaviour over the decades, culminating and evidenced in the tabloid press writing things that are slanderous every day of the week with few repercussions. I'm only sort of joking.

Those are some well-dressed Spaniards there, Queen!

queenofarles · 10/01/2020 10:49

Bling I’m not defending DM or anything ,I hate it!
But I know how it works,

Just look at the Boxing Day pictures they print each year. South Asians , Asians and Arab shoppers queuing for sales, they know its stories like these that make their readers go mental.

Also in Meghans case or any Celeb for that matter, when you start going a bit "extra" , people poke fun at you, I get it all the time because of food and lifestyle choices I make.
The blanket story is really silly, facts were not entirely true , but it was being produced by low paid workers. Which again made a good story.

queenofarles · 10/01/2020 10:55

^^, posted too soon, why mention it was made in a factory that is better than most, why mention that conditions are better than the likes of Primark? Or that it helped domestic violence victims? These matters are not a priority for the DM or the posters on the RF stories for that matter.

Lunde · 10/01/2020 11:28

I think that there has been a huge clash of cultures because H&M didn't actually know each other very well and I don't think that M really understood what she was marrying into.

H&M can certainly make some big money in 2020 through selling their "brand". Although their £34 million wealth sounds like a lot of money - it is not private jet and LA mansion wealthy. However the US celebrity system tends to give celebrities a much gentler ride and doesn't call out the mega-rich who travel by private plane while espousing eco-credentials (di Caprio/Clooney/Oprah etc). The £2.4 million that Charles give H&M sounds like a lot of money - but they can probably earn much more than that just by selling photos of Archie or giving interviews to Oprah or Gayle King. They can more easily accept gifts and freebies from wealthy friends.

The risk for them is to be very careful about where their new income comes from. We have already seen the risks for the Royal Family of Fake Sheikhs (Sophie/Fergie) or moving in very dubious wealthy circles (Andy: Epstein + strange financial arrangements with despots). They do need to be quite careful about where their new "independent" income comes from - they have already accepted a 6 week stay at the Canadian mansion of a person who hides their ownership and identity,

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/01/2020 11:35

I think the only long term future for the royal family involves massive change. The monarchy largely exists acting like it did when the Queen came to power, it can't stay that way and stay relevant to the people they serve.

Being King/Queen required neutrality and focus on public service. Being the rest of the royal family requires a cause or we end up with Andy and Margaret. If Harry and Meghan set up a charitable foundation and actively fundraise to support its goals and do additional work to support themselves they can do fantastic work for the UK and the Commonwealth. Meghan has shown herself to be prepared to put in the background work (Hubb, Smartworks). I'm thinking positive and think this is a great way to go for them.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 10/01/2020 11:38

Has anyone seen Crazy Rich Asians. I remember when I watched it I felt really uncomfortable about the lead actor. He never gave his girlfriend any advice on what was suitable to wear for the events they were going to or on protocol within their culture. I remember thinking it could have been oddly similar for Meghan. A successful woman transplanting into a completely different way of life with little or no support and then be ridiculed and villainfied for getting it wrong.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 11:39

Clearly the first stop for H&M in their new life has to be a visit to MNHQ to do a live Q&A, right??Grin

Horsemad · 10/01/2020 11:49

Haha, that'd be hilarious @QueenOfTheAndals! 😆

Wonder how much they'd charge for that?? 🤔

queenofarles · 10/01/2020 11:53

frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 11:56

queenofarles · 10/01/2020 12:01

Wonder how much they'd charge for that??
Probably they’d charge per post? Grin
£50x100 should cover two one way business class tickets to Toronto.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 12:12

True @frugalkitty - "Harry ditch those brown shoes and tell Uncle Eddie to give up the double breasted suits, for the love of god!"

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/01/2020 12:26

Little glimpse of Louis in the back of the car when Kate went to BP yesterday.
He is just 😍 adorable

Royal style: Monochrome Megs is back in town!
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 12:34

Kate is definitely watching us as we've not seen William in a fleece since. I reckon she burned it round the back of KP!

frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 12:35

He really looks like George in that photo.

MrsGrindah · 10/01/2020 12:39

I am breaking my own rule by not talking about fashion here but one thing that has amused me on this and other threads is the fury that everyone has against the Daily Mail....yet they don’t admit to reading it ..but how do you know what it’s saying without reading it?! Answering my own question, it’s because it’s inescapable..other papers quote it, links on social media etc. It’s a strange beast.

CarrotVan · 10/01/2020 12:40

She always looks so stressed when driving. Nice to see Louis is a thumb sucker. My two are devoted to their thumbs
