Popping up - yes, I'm one of the PR people on this thread (although do banking and fintech and stuff so it is very different). Broadly, I think all the PR has had some serious flops at time. M&H handled Archie's birth very badly (not the decision to keep it private - I thought that was fine - but the mixed messages and, ultimately, what turned out to be a lie). They are also, I suspect, running their PR entirely separately to the Palace etc which has pros but means some obvious small fixes are missed when they do things - eg the statement should have said something like, "we've been discussing this with the queen and prince charles and are in the process of working ou the details." It's also entirely possible that they couldn't include that as the decision to make the statement was 100% their own against the wishes of the rest which means they can't speak for the rest. But a more collaborative approach might have mitigated that somewhat.

"I doubt any one in the royal palaces leaked." This literally had me burst out laughing at the naivety. BP and KP are, to all accounts, the leakiest places on the planet, filled with individuals who have their own opinions and who are actively acting against other members of the royal family (and it remains unclear to me if the principals are okay with this or not, but if they are, I can assure you they're the type of client I wouldn't touch with a barge pole - you need a consistent, appropriate message).

I suspect that BP and KP are filled with the same kind of people who work for and read the DM. They want things with the RF to stay the same as they always have and don't understand that the world is changing. That a black woman joining the RF, after a successful and independent career does not mean they get to treat her like the 21 year old Diana back in the early 80s (and frankly, even if the world hadn't changed, they still shouldn't as that didn't work out so well for them).

On a lighter note - I'd actually forgotten how HOT keanu is. Thanks for the reminders FrugalKitty et al! Grin

Loving the pictures of Carl Philip. Very nice.

Quickly back to Harry and Meghan. Their carb footprint is going to be massive. How are they going to stand up with a straight face and lecture the public on environmental impact.

BlingLoving · 10/01/2020 09:33

Oh, and on the Tiara - what I thought about Meghan's dress AND tiara is that they were choices of a woman who was mature and confident in herself and her style choices. Kate looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day but the entire thing was fairy princess from a fantasy story (which I have no problem with) while Meghan was far more about saying, "I am a woman and I want to look/dress in this way"

BlingLoving · 10/01/2020 09:34

They don't actually lecture anyone unless you count supporting environmentally friendly causes lecturing.

Also, they've said that they offset their carbon and I feel pretty confident that when they can do things t create a more green environment they do.

queenofarles · 10/01/2020 09:38

Did they both leave the UK?

I’ve just Read Rebbecas English ! Twitter , was it really all about that three monarchs picture?

Honestly I’m starting to see that most of The leaks were true. them moving, NC between The brothers.
Tiara situation if was true is probably no big deal,

it just show how easily aggravated they both are. and take things too personally. If they both think these issues are awful then there is no way they could survive in the real world, people will fawn and pamper them for a bit then they will be dropped.
They, as well as all other royals for that matter are where they are now because of their family or whom they married to.
MM was a minor actress in a relatively unknown TV show, the opportunities that her title and connections to the RF made her a big name, and now is cashing on these connections while trying to alienate themselves from that very same family!

She is very Savvy, I give her that.

NoGravyForYou · 10/01/2020 09:42

@queenofarles

I've just seen on Sky News twitter that a spokeswoman for M has confirmed that she has returned to Canada to be with Archie. No confirmation about Harry 🤷🏻‍♀️

How funny it's all changed, a few days ago we were discussing that the Canada House visit was them laying down foundations for a move to Canada in the future, nobody was expecting it the next day!!

latedecember1963 · 10/01/2020 09:44

I'm not a fan of beards generally although my elder son has one and now looks naked when he occasionally shaves it off.
The Spanish PM, however, is rather scrummy. 😍
I'm chuckling at the idea of the people who own the cardboard cutouts firm being pleasantly bemused about a sudden flurry of orders over the next few days!

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 09:46

Oh come on @queenofarles, the press campaign against Meghan has been unrelenting. It's easy to say they should put up and shut up but if there's false stories about you being printed every day then I'm sure even the strongest would eat ground down. And I know stuff was said about Kate at first too but I don't think "Waitie Katie" and "doors to manual" was anywhere near as bad as the abuse Meghan got. And yes Fergie probably got it just as bad in the 80s but two wrong don't make a right!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 09:47

get ground down

DuchessofWoke · 10/01/2020 09:47

When you say abuse, do you mean criticism?

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 09:47

@NoGravyForYou Harry apparently has a rugby-related engagement on Thursday so maybe that's why he's staying put for now.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 09:50

No @DuchessofWoke, things like publishing the letter to her father, running an investigation into the "swear shop" that made Archie's blanket (except it wasn't) and general crap like criticising her for things that every other royal woman has done for years like touch her baby bump or wear expensive clothes.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 09:50

The rugby World Cup draw is on the 16th, so a week away.

I can see why they didn't bring Archie with them if they were planning on not sticking around very long. Can't imagine jet lag and a small baby are a fun combination.

frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 09:57

Oh Tracy you've made my day!!! I'm really tempted to get a cutout for the airing cupboard now.....not sure what the family would make of it though Grin

BlingLoving · 10/01/2020 10:01

No @DuchessofWoke, things like publishing the letter to her father and let's not forget that they EDITED the letter too (we still don't know how or what was edited, but....).

How about when her and Harry were accused of giving rules to people who live on the Estate? Or the claims of orangeries and gold bathtubs that were ALL just made up? Or the hilariously different stories, all outrageous, about her baby shower.

Or the many many times they've accused her of causing problems with Harry/ william/ kate/ the Queen? Everything is ALWAYS her fault, including today's trip to Canada where apparently SHE left Archie (Harry had nothing to do with that).

And don't even get me started on Piers Morgan, Sarah Vine, Camilla Long et al.

MotherofPearl · 10/01/2020 10:03

I'm not so keen on the loafers look SFF is sporting in that picture up thread.

We really badly need some clothes to discuss. I keep desperately refreshing NMR! Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 10:09

Sorry @MotherofPearl! It's not very exciting but here's Mathilde in a red frock. I want to know who the lady in the coral jacket is as she looks quite stylish!

OP posts:
ClaraBarcelo · 10/01/2020 10:10

@QueenOfTheAndals might need to change the thread title Grin

Fair play to them, I say. They are trying to do what they think is best for their family.

Isn’t that what we all do? Try to shield our children from what we’ve experienced, give them a better life?

NoGravyForYou · 10/01/2020 10:13

Love the colour of Mathilde's dress but not sure I like the sleeves/neckline.

Last time we have a fashion lull there was lots of talk of tiaras which I found incredibly interesting.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 10:13

@ClaraBarcelo yes it was a bit premature! Oh well, at the rate this thread is going it'll be full before the end of the weekend and we can start anew on Monday.

I'm still not convinced that they won't get negative press interest wherever they end up living.

The Great British Public seem to be miffed about the Sussex's wish to hang on to their royal titles, whilst living abroad and stepping down from their roles within the Firm.
I don't think the trademarking of Sussex Royal has gone down well either.

These two don't appear to be value for money and that's what gets people's backs up.

MotherofPearl · 10/01/2020 10:21

@QueenOfTheAndals, I wondered if it's Ursula Von Der Leyen, the new EU chief? I agree she looks chic.
