What would you wear though with a red velvet gown? Dr Martens Grin

The NY times piece was good, ty for the link. The abuse levelled at MM isn’t even dog whistle racism it’s overt. But you only have to read a handful of threads on Mumsnet to see how unwilling many Brits are to acknowledge this, while bleating “well she just doesn’t fit in does she?” (as Hirsch points out in article). Racism is a universal Bad Thing and the RF would have done well to come down on it like a tonne of bricks over and over instead of trying the masochistic never explain route.

I am now reminded of Sinead O’Connor’s song Black Boys on Mopeds.

H&M may be a pair of utter twits. But then they all might be. You don’t become smart or wise by accident of birth alone.

If this were a reddit thread we’d have a blanket fucking ban on the Sun or DM as “sources” for anything except pics of clothes Xmas Blush. I’d trust a royal sycophant any day, you can usually glean the truth from a statement that is spun, but the British tabloids LIE outright and this is proven. Which means that even when they write truthful things no one can trust them.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 10/01/2020 07:02

I suspect that the Sun leak is a smokescreen. H&M May well have leaked to that rag themselves to force the RF hand. I doubt any one in the royal palaces leaked. Poor HM. What a start to the New Year.

Sooverthemill · 10/01/2020 07:26

I saw an episode of 'this is us' recently that really brought home to me the level of intrinsic ( is that the right word?) racism's faced by black people, and that no matter how hard we try or how genuinely sympathetic we are white people just do not see or understand or feel the racism that is all around. Meghan is treated so very very badly by the press in the UK

frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 07:32

banivani I think my daughter might wear docs to her prom Grin

math are you actually suggesting that Meghan wouldn't or won't experience racism in the US?

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 07:35

"Poor" HM has been through worse - her annus horribilis for example. And a good deal of the respect I had for her went out of the window after she let Andrew sit, grinning like an idiot, in the car next to her on the way to church soon after the Epstein news hit the press.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 07:37

I think what @mathanxiety is saying is that she wouldn't experience the same level of racism from the press. And nobody takes the tabloids seriously over there, unlike here where people just quote the Mail or Express like its fact.

If it is William's reaction to Harry and Meghan's wedding that set any 'rift' off it was very tactless of William. Unless you fear abuse wedding announcements should get congratulations. William must have known how hard it was to Harry to find a woman prepared to marry into the royal family without the cache of becoming Queen.

Gooseysgirl · 10/01/2020 08:03

Hadley has it spot on IMHO... and that's all I'm going to say on the matter! Back to the fashion!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 08:06

I don't believe the tiara story or at least I don't believe Meghan wanted Eugenie's tiara. For one it wouldn't have gone with her veil at all and secondly, all her jewellery is very minimalist. She tends to favour delicate pieces not large stones. Eugenie's tiara was gorgeous but I think it would've overwhelmed someone small like Meghan and detached from her veil, which was the showstopper.

OP posts:
frugalkitty · 10/01/2020 08:13

I agree, I don't think it was Eugenie's tiara either. I know we will never actually know what did or didn't happen, but it's one bit of the story that I'd love to know the truth of. From a 'how does it work?' point of view. Do you say 'I'd like a ruby one?' Or do they have a dodgy old photo album with photos cut out in, like you used to have when you went to the hairdresser and wanted 'something different'

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 08:34

I like to think there's some sort of tiara app that involves scrolling through HM's jewellery collection on an iPad! I imagine Kate has something similar for her wardrobe, broken down by item and colour. Otherwise how does she choose which green coat to wear on St Pat's Day?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 08:35

Detached from her veil? Detracted!

PinkSun9 · 10/01/2020 08:37

There is a clip of Meghan where she describes how they were shown an array of tiaras to choose from, she found it a "surreal" experience.

PinkSun9 · 10/01/2020 08:41

Forgot to add: Meghan n Harry both went to wherever the physical tiaras were, to choose.

DuchessofWoke · 10/01/2020 08:59

Whatever happened, Meghan wore the best tiara in the end. I’m not a fan of tiaras generally but absolutely loved hers.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 10/01/2020 09:03

I loved Meghan’s tiara. It suited her perfectly. Kate’s not so much.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 10/01/2020 09:19

Desperate for something to distract us, I located the instagram account of Sophia Louise Johansson who married the Malaysian Crown Prince (or something) Tengku last year. We have to diversify.

"Under Malaysia’s system of constitutional monarchy system, each of the nine hereditary rulers is given a chance to be king for five years under a rotation system."
