This popped up on my Instagram, as William & Kate are doing a couple of engagements next week.

It has to be from the first year of their marriage, based on William’s hairline! They both look gorgeous !
They’re going o Bradford ( I’d love Kate to wear a version of one of her Pakistan outfits) as they’re bound to be visiting a Muslim community.

Also a reception for African Investment at BP on the 20th January.

There is a whole section on how they plan to handle the media going forward it seems very well put together.

JohnandMary · 08/01/2020 23:19

If the rift is real and 95% of their funding is via the Duchy of Cornwall then I guess there was a risk that could be cut when William takes over. Maybe they’re trying to get alternatives established before that happens.

margotsdevil · 08/01/2020 23:19

That's what I meant - the Sussex page would suggest a far more solid plan than BP want to acknowledge?

margotsdevil · 08/01/2020 23:20

That is a lovely pic Curly - did you just stumble across it?

whitershadeofpale · 08/01/2020 23:23

I thought it may lead to potential issues in the future and seeing their office site’s statements I think even more so and have lost any respect for them, the whole thing is a cold cash grab with the intention of retaining all privilege and losing nothing. 5% of their income will go, which will be more than made up for now that they can ‘earn a professional income’ by selling off stories to any media agency they choose.

If that’s what they want then they should give up their titles, if it’s true that they’ve not even finalised or said they were announce it with HM, then they’ve no respect for the institution anyway.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2020 23:25

The media FAQ is very interesting. I had no idea about the Royal Rota.

#Megsit ? #Mexit?

frugalkitty · 08/01/2020 23:39

Thanks for the link itswinetime the two things that struck me reading were firstly, they want to earn money which makes them sound a bit greedy and out of touch, how can they not have enough money already? It's a bit 'have your cake and eat it' to me. Secondly, in reference to Frogmore House, it says that it will continue to be their residence so that they will have a base in the uk going forward, but it reads as if it's here when they pop back which makes me wonder if they're planning on living abroad for considerably more of the year than they'll be here.

It's all so topsy turvey, what a mess.

paradyning · 08/01/2020 23:43

There's talk of a £80million Netflix contract in the pipeline on the blinds. Could be utter and complete bullshit though as we know.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 08/01/2020 23:45

They have trademarked “Sussex Royal’ over the Christmas period, they are aiming to be a huge global brand cashing in massively on their royal status, don’t see it going down too well with the Royals, let alone Joe public.

itswinetime · 08/01/2020 23:48

Yes it's very strange I agree. It's either a very poorly worded statement from bp or if not it fees a little like the Sussex's are being left to take the flack from the public and the media while everyone else stays well away.

DuchessofWoke · 09/01/2020 00:44

The sheer amount of detail on the new website is absolutely staggering. I can’t believe they didn’t tell Charles or William about it. It’s incredible. The section about how their relationship with the media will change is fascinating. In a nutshell, they will only engage with specially chosen outlets and will largely use their own social media to share photos. Because it’s apparently unfair that the tabloids get to profit from their photos (and not them?).

The funding section! Someone has spent a long time on this. Such attention to detail and yet it still reads crassly. They want to leverage their fame and make money out of it. They feel frustrated that they cannot do this. They will give up the sovereign grant - which covers 5% of their costs. 95% of their money comes from Charles. For now...

DuchessofWoke · 09/01/2020 00:45

This is a major family rift. I know it’s a Mumsnet cliche but they must be NC with the whole lot of them!

astralweaks · 09/01/2020 00:56

The sheer arrogance is staggering.

NoGravyForYou · 09/01/2020 01:00

The website is quite something.

Can we still discuss Meghan's style even though she will no longer be a senior royal? I can't imagine they will be out of the limelight for long and she might experiment a bit more.

Yehdivvy · 09/01/2020 02:33

There are some very scathing comments on the H&M threads in chat & AIBU for further information. For a couple seeking privacy, it's a very attention seeking statement. Would have been better for the to have consulted & drawn up a plan with RF regarding a gradual withdrawal.

I wonder if Harry will be able to heal divisions with his family in the future. It might not be something he's considered atm but they've been around for him a lot longer than Megan. He should take a step back & think things through rather than be led by others. Who knows what's going on behind closed doors.

Ariaty · 09/01/2020 04:15

I withdraw my previous supportive comment about her a few posts ago.

This is the thing - I am constantly changing my mind about MM. Initially thought she was great, was put off by the £56k engagement dress and have been changing sides ever since - trying not to be negative but struggling.

There's a thread on here atm 'my brother is being controlled by his wife' which I haven't clicked on as it reminds me of my brother. Obviously Harry is a grown man, but something doesn't sit right here. On the other hand, they are up against the Middletons and royal family (possibly in that order!).

I do wonder if the they are looking for criticism as an excuse to leave. I do feel sorry for HRH - what a kick in the teeth, especially after they pulled it together for Christmas.

No way are either of them emotionally healthy coming from their families, I hope both invest in an awful lot of therapy.

Happy Birthday Kate

Bet she’s glad she managed to get her main celebration in last weekend

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/01/2020 05:34

Of course! Beatrice. Eugenie and Zara aren't senior royals either but we still discuss their clothes.

Beautiful photos of Kate, Curly. The blue Ascot dress was one of my favourite of her outfits last year.
I feel sad that Harry and Meghan have got to the point where they feel they have to take the decision to step away. The constant undermining of Meghan in particular has been awful to watch. I hope they manage to create a happy life for themselves and for Archie. I suspect that becomming a parent has been a watershed moment.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 06:51

Happy birthday Kate.

They're not stepping away - they're keeping all the privileges of their position and using them to make money. Their website is quite clear about that. And sadly I think this was the plan all along - hence Oprah and power couple Clooneys right up front at the wedding. I think the Queen should remove their HRH status.

Thank god for Kate (even if I am an agnostic and a republican!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/01/2020 07:17

Stepping down as "senior" royals basically means what? They become like Beatrice and Eugenie, who show up at big occasions and have a few patronages/charities but are also free to have jobs and a private life?

Honestly I can see both sides of it. The press campaign against Meghan has been hideous and perhaps it's triggered some long-repressed memory for Harry of what his mother went through and he's thought enough is enough.

On the other hand, if it's true that they did this without telling anyone else then I don't think that's wise either.

Probably best to wait and see what this new role involves before predicting too much about Oprah or the Clooneys. It could equally mean they're free to do more for the charities they already support like Sentebale and Smartworks. Time will tell!
