So using all the advantages of the royal band and connections to be financially "independent" and devaluing the brand in the process.

What a mess.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 08/01/2020 19:05

Holy shit. Be interesting to see how this works in practice. Especially becoming financially independent. Is there any precedent for this?

TeaLibrary · 08/01/2020 19:05

If they want to step down from their positions as senior royals that's fine with me. I'm glad they will be working to support themselves as I dont think the public should now be paying for their lifestyle or travel or their bodyguards.

Grinchly · 08/01/2020 19:08

So they are going to try to profit from their royal connection, as PA did, but openly.

As someone famous for her own catastrophic wardrobe malfunctions I found Megan's quite endearing, yet perplexing - the labels on shoes, price tickets, crumples, poor fit, and yesterday, the see through jumper, sweat patches and mismatching outfit.

Surely her PR or someone gives her the look over before she goes out, or at least anticipates these things?

Anyway, now they won't need to bother about it so much. But they need to be careful about trying to monetise the royal connection - or rather the RF does. It with be interesting to see what the supportive BH/ CH/ KP messages say.

Nanasueathome · 08/01/2020 19:09

Will they still get the protection officers, paid for by UK?

AudacityOfHope · 08/01/2020 19:10

@bubblesbuddy will you try to give your constant negativity a rest? How is them working to become financially independent evidence of their laziness?! Confused

PinkSun9 · 08/01/2020 19:10

I feel so sorry for the Sussexes... they have been bullied out of the RF by the extremely nasty British media and not given much support by the RF.

I hope they are happy in whatever they plan to do now and wherever they live. Wish them all the best.

N0tfinished · 08/01/2020 19:10

I'm just worried we'll never see Meghan in a tiara and a show-stopper formal dress!!

I shouldn't have an opinion as I'm Irish, but it really felt like they couldn't do anything right. I feel positively towards them - Meghan did some wonderful things. I hope she can continue to use her influence in such a positive way. BYW I love the Cambridge's too! #teamboth

gingercat02 · 08/01/2020 19:10

Good for them. Being "private citizen royal" has worked very well for Zara (clever old PA) I'm not suprised after the reaction on here and elsewhere to the one two thing they have done since they came back to the UK

itswinetime · 08/01/2020 19:11

I don't want to derail this thread but I don't want to venture to the other threads either as any thread about the Sussex's on here has a tendency to go south quickly.

So I will just say this I'm a bit surprised this is the decision they have made and I'm sad that it has come to this as I don't really see what they have ever done that it so bad. However if the set up isn't working for them I guess they have to look after their family like anyone else. I agree though that if they no longer want to be senior royals then they need to be as financially independent as the tindalls, Phillip's and Beatrice and Eugenie. With the same treatment in terms of perks ect. Although how truly financially independent any of them are is definitely a whole different thread.

Sorry queen. I will stick to fashion again now. Or try anyway.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 08/01/2020 19:11

and work to become financially independent

I thought they were independently wealthy?

paradyning · 08/01/2020 19:12

Guess all the blinds about Megs house hunting in LA for the last 12 months were correct then!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2020 19:15

Well not surprised at all.
Just at the speed.
Off to comment on the other threads and leave this as a fashion zone.

BubblesBuddy · 08/01/2020 19:16

It is lazy to be handed everything on a plate: house, frocks and shoes, holidays and hairdos plus fabulous jewels and then say “no”. We think we will use our social media presence to make money and give nothing back to society. We would expect more from our DC.

I can be honest whether it’s negative or not. Are we all gushing Royal (or not so Royal) apologists on here!? Hopefully some of us have original thought.

BubblesBuddy · 08/01/2020 19:18

Yes. I’ll leave it to “fashion” too but Meghan dire t get that either! All that money and no taste.

paradyning · 08/01/2020 19:18

You are definitely in the minority their bubbles

paradyning · 08/01/2020 19:19

*there.
And I don't think I've seen such a negative poster in here as yourself.

AudacityOfHope · 08/01/2020 19:20

So they are not allowed any agency over their lives because one of them was born into a certain family? Don't be daft.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2020 19:21

Are we all gushing Royal (or not so Royal) apologists on here!?

Actually no, I'm a republican. But the media campaign against Meghan has been relentless and bullying and just because someone is rich and famous doesn't mean they're immune to the effects of being bullied.

And I'd rather stick to clothes on this thread because otherwise it won't last beyond tonight!

What on earth will the Haters do now? The DM will need to sack half it’s staff.

Stop worrying about Frogmore, the message clearly states they will travel between countries.

The Cambridge show of strength and the line of succession shots make a lot more sense now.

TSSDNCOP · 08/01/2020 19:23

I thought MM looked terrific at today’s engagement. Love the updo.

Wetdogloveshubert · 08/01/2020 19:23

Hence the thank you to Canada too - note they'll be spending their time in North America, so it could have been seen as a snub to Canada.

Sorry, @QueenOfTheAndals, back to style. I like this bling Grin King George VI and Elizabeth II coronation photographs.

Crikey. Interesting times ahead then it seems.

SenecaFalls · 08/01/2020 19:32

I don't blame them one bit. The saddest aspect is the role that racism, overt and covert, played in this.
