Oh yes I totally see your point @MrsGrindah but that isn't the sort of criticism I was referring to. Calling an outfit frumpy is one thing but the repeated comments about bare ankles in January being unsuitable and saying it looks cheap is another.

Anyway, back to the clothes and yes those are the same shoes @Gooseysgirl. They're available online but not in velvet.

Don't go @AudacityOfHope! I have the ahem, audacity, to hope we can get the thread back on an even keel.

Meghan's coat today is Reiss, not
Stella M, as was first reported.

Thanks for the link to the Sophie article Curly I'll have a read in the morning.

Goosey I loved that outfit you put a pic of from the NI visit (?) and was going to post it with my fave outfits of last year until I realised it was the year before.

I agree with the poster who describes Meghan's look as 'modern and fresh' (sorry, I've forgotten who said it up thread). I'd love to see some more asymmetrical cuts and trouser suits as we go into spring.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/01/2020 23:36

I never wear tights. I hate them. And I have short, fat legs.

SenecaFalls · 07/01/2020 23:37

Please stay with us @AudacityOfHope. Among other things, I love your username. Wink

Rhubarbisevil · 07/01/2020 23:45

I am going against the grain.

I liked Meghan’s outfit.

Inniu · 07/01/2020 23:55

Oh I have Meghans skirt in blue and never wear it because no matter what I put it with it never looks right.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 08/01/2020 00:07

You need a big navy jumper and heeled boots Inniu Crown Wink

Josette77 · 08/01/2020 02:10

Kate's legs are incredible.

trixiebelden77 · 08/01/2020 04:29

I always like MM’s jewellery. She wears a lot of delicate pieces that suit her really well. I often look up the designer if they’re mentioned.

mathanxiety · 08/01/2020 04:52

YYY to Seneca Falls.

I loved MM's outfit. Gorgeous from top to toe. Very on trend but she manages to make it all look stylish as opposed to fashionable.

SenecaFalls · 08/01/2020 04:54

I just watched the video of their visit. I think Meghan's ensemble looks much better in movement than it does in some of the still photos, especially the skirt.

AudacityOfHope · 08/01/2020 07:51

@QueenOfTheAndals 😆😆😆

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2020 07:58

Has anyone seen Prince Charles’ message of support to the people of Australia

I thought it was heartfelt and thoughtful.
Definitely better than a simple written communiqué.
I suspect he & Camilla will visit later this year to show their support

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2020 08:04

Yes I did @CurlyWurlyTwirly, I thought it was a lovely gesture. I'm surprised that no member of the RF has paid a visit to Australia House to show support but perhaps they have done so privately.

Rhubarbisevil · 08/01/2020 08:10

As there has been a lot of speculation but no actual insider knowledge about MM, here is my penny’s worth.

Meghan couldn’t wear a leather skirt yesterday as she is doing Veganuary. Likewise with shoes which is why she wore velvet shoes. Archie distracted her whilst she was getting dressed and she forgot to put on deodorant. Archie is also teething so she was up all night. She meant to wash her hair and style it but the nanny didn’t arrive until it was time to leave. The nanny wasn’t around during the night as she needed to be on duty during the day so that MM and PH could go out.

whatswithtodaytoday · 08/01/2020 08:13

I wonder if she intended to wear the skirt with a big jumper and/or boots, but it was too warm so had to do a quick outfit change. It really was very mild in London yesterday, I was wearing a light dress and opaque tights and had to take my coat off as I was too warm.

Also, sheer tights are utterly pointless - don't keep you warm and ladder. I wear opaques all the time but don't own a pair of sheers. Last time I wore them I was working in John Lewis when I was a student and they insisted on it 🙄 (around 2001).

I used to wear a very similar outfit to the Massimo Dutti example in the 90s - so weird to see it back in fashion!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2020 08:21

If she'd worn a big jumper then the pregnancy rumour mill would've gone into overdrive!

OP posts:
pastaparadise · 08/01/2020 08:31

I liked Meghans outfit yesterday. She always looks polished - no idea why a pp described it as having just got out of bed clearly look better than I do first thing

I think as another poster suggested, a cream cashmere jumper would have set it off better.

I've not seen pictures of sweat patches, but I wonder if she's using natural deodorant due to breast feeding? I am, and it's not great as an anti perspirant, esp if I'm a bit stressed.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/01/2020 08:33

Bare legs - I hate the overuse of this phrase on MN but it's a generational thing.

Years ago when the only legs you would see were pasty white ones, it was considered very "common" not to cover them up. In the war, when stockings were hard to come by, bare legs were stained with tea and seams drawn up the back with eyebrow pencil.

Women of different ethnicity and darker skin tones don't need to cover up but still the prejudice persists.

FWIW, I think a very fine denier gives a nice finish but I thought Meghan looked dreadful in those pale "nude" tights she wore on her early outings that weren't anywhere near her colour.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/01/2020 08:38

I love the big jumper and boots combo. Just the sort of thing I used to wear when I was young and slim. I loved a slouchy boot and it got over any hosiery issues.

TheNavigator · 08/01/2020 08:40

I liked Meghan's skirt, shoes and coat but I just don't like polo neck jumpers - especially in brown. However, she is so beautiful she can carry it off better than most human beings. Glad we are back to talking about clothes and not using the thread as an excuse for digs (just thrown on clothes from the 'floordrobe' FFS - just say you think she is lazy and common elsewhere than a style & beauty thread - or better yet keep it to yourself).

Housewife2010 · 08/01/2020 08:42

Meghan had her own range of vegan "leather" skirts prior to her marriage, so she could still wear leather this month.

peridito · 08/01/2020 08:47

I'm knocking on 70 so comments about bare legs made by imaginarycat resonate with me .Interesting to reflect on how affected one can be by history !

But what I'd like to ask is -does no tights = bare feet* ? Or do ppl wear those little foot things ,the name of which escapes me ,and how do you guarantee they won't be poking up over the shoe ?

  • this would be a big no no for me ,I like a nice fresh /smooth substance between my icky foot and the inside of a shoe .
