Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18 Thread 19

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

Bo I've got Toleriane Dermo-cleanser but wanted to try this one:

www.easyparapharmacie.co.uk/toleriane-caring-wash-400-mlanti-discomfort-anti-dryness-sensitive-skins-la-roche-posay.html

I thought there was another Toleriane cleanser that you recommended but couldn't remember!

botemp · 23/03/2020 16:40

Ah ok, I thought you wanted to replace the one you had so it made no sense to me. The linked one is the hydrating version, AKA the other version that gets recommended on here. You could also consider trying the Cerave hydrating cleanser, they're pretty similar.

OP posts:
Tsmummy08 · 23/03/2020 20:06

Thanks Bo
Like some others, I found the Cerave hydrating cleanser to be sting-y - I think I'll give the hydrating Toleriane a whirl :)

botemp · 23/03/2020 20:09

Fair warning, I think Pupsie experienced stinging with both those cleansers. I may be remembering incorrectly though but the two are quite similar and the Cerave is definitely more prone to being stingy than the LRP.

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 23/03/2020 22:38

Yes I did Bo. Very well remembered.

EnidButton · 24/03/2020 03:33

Popping in to say hello as I haven't been around for a bit. Hope everyone is doing okay considering.

Nothing on topic to say really. Just that LRP lipikar lait lotion is really coming into its own atm with all the hand washing. Good stuff. Also worked out my 'dry' hair issue was in fact build up from products containing coconut and/or protein.Clarifying shampoo fixed things in just one wash.

Good luck with the antibiotics Out (might've been me that mentioned them as I've used both topical and oral ones for acne with a lot of success).

Hope your skin settles down soon Queen

Take care of yourselves everyone Flowers (Felt like Jerry Springer then....)

Outtheforest · 24/03/2020 05:40

Ahh yes it was you enid I'm starting with topical and if that fails will try to see a dermatologist when the madness of coronavirus is over
Hope you're all doing ok with the chaos in the UK at the moment.

botemp · 24/03/2020 07:19

Hope you're safe wherever you are Out, as I got the impression previously that access to your local healthcare services are of the more basic kind.

Interesting about lipikar being nice for the hands, Enid. Eucerin urea hand cream has been saving mine although I could really do with some guidelines on when it's okay and not okay to apply it as the virus likes oil/lipids. Not that I've left home much but I tend to only apply it when I know I'm staying put indoors and wait till after I finish eating. Did have a nasty rash on my hands (might be a mild symptom according to Dr Google Blush) that old faithful LRP Cicaplast managed to fix.

I've also found that the drier my hands get, the more effort I need to take in rubbing it in, really warming it up thoroughly between palms of hands and pretty much redoing all the hand wash routine movements with the hand cream to get it properly absorbed, otherwise it seems to just sit on top for the most part.

Tsmummy08 · 24/03/2020 09:35

Thanks Bo, Pupsie I'll give that one a miss, cheers for the headsup!

In other news, my skin has hugely improved over the last few weeks not using actives... I'm still slightly pink (maybe that's just my natural colour, who knows), but there's no stinging, flaking or reacting.

I'll continue with my basic routine for another couple of weeks but I'm already thinking about what to reintroduce. Probably the P&M Retinoil as it's so gentle...

Outtheforest · 24/03/2020 14:38

bo interesting to know that about the virus as I've been using pure shea butter as a hand cream for years.
My current country is woefully unprepared for such a situation. There is less than 20 ventilators in the whole country despite a 50million population. The government have closed airports with 48hrs so I now couldn't leave if I wanted to. Looking at the positive in that working from home means no makeup and extra time to run.
I plan to reemerge a new woman.

botemp · 24/03/2020 15:11

Well I've looked it up to avoid the spread of any misinformation and think I've just gotten confused as I normally use a Eucerin cleansing oil to wash hands with (because eczema) that keeps the lipid barrier intact so have switched to soap for a few weeks now as that does break down lipid barriers (indiscriminately skin and dirt). But from this article I gather the lipids they're talking about are the Corona virus'lipids and it seems to attach to skin debris, so I'm guessing that hand cream therefore shouldn't invite a breeding ground. And this dermatologist seems to suggest it's fine to apply straight after hand washing.

Jedstre · 24/03/2020 17:17

@Tsmummy08 I’ve been using that LRP wash for more than a year, as a second cleanse at night.

cad186 · 25/03/2020 21:24

Hello everyone, hope you are all keeping ok. I seem to remember that some people on here really liked a Nars foundation? What was it and does anyone use it anymore?

Jedstre · 25/03/2020 21:37

cad the NARS is pure radiant tinted moisturiser. It’s oil free and non comedogenic. I’ve been using it for ages now. I’ve got a good colour match so I’m sticking with it.

SallieSallow · 25/03/2020 21:49

Hi everyone 👋 hope you are all safe and well.

Not much to report here, I’m increasing tret use to try and build up to using it every night seeing as I’m not going out or wearing any makeup Shock

I desperately need to cut my hair which is back to almost waist length again and driving me mad, I remember someone sharing a video on here that I used a while ago but don’t seem to have it saved, seem to remember it involved two pony tails if that rings a bell with anyone?

Cad I highly recommend the NARS pure radiant tinted moisturiser as well. Might be tricky to get a colour match on line, though I took the risk and luckily found the perfect shade.

cad186 · 25/03/2020 22:37

Thanks both! What is the coverage like with the Nars tinted moisturiser? I had a sample of the Sheer Glow foundation so I know my shade from that (assuming they are the same in different foundations!). Has anyone tried the Sheer Glow?

SallieSallow · 26/03/2020 13:00

No I haven’t tried the sheer glow one Cad but find the pure radiance gives pretty decent coverage and it’s easy to build up.

Jedstre · 26/03/2020 19:39

cad I Agree with sallie about coverage etc. I haven’t tried sheer glow. I have oily skin so I swerve anything with ‘Glow’ in the name Smile

cad186 · 26/03/2020 20:10

Thanks both I think I will give it a try!

botemp · 26/03/2020 20:21

Paging @ClientListQueen, I'm sure she'll know if the Nars colours match up across the products. The tinted moisturiser is oil free so I would keep in mind that it may oxidise more than others.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 21:23

I'm here Grin I think most of them do hut worth checking on findation or temptalia foundation matrix as sometimes the colours can alter slightly with the formula
Did this halo eye thing which I quite like

EnidButton · 26/03/2020 21:49

Really like those colours Client. Suits you.

I put make up on for the first time on a week and felt a bit better. More me. I've been very ratty. Partly due on, partly worrying about DH (nhs keyworker). Adjusting to things like everyone else. So I'm going to do face masks and nails tomorrow, take my mind off it. I have fresh pots of Vichy clay mask and Glamglow to crack open.

Anyone use Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter? Is it as good as they say? Never sure about CT stuff.

EnidButton · 26/03/2020 21:51

Interesting about the hand lotion bo I had wondered if it was detrimental but tend to mainly apply at night. Good to know it's ok though.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 21:56

LOVE flawless filter. Love Grin I use it on my cheekbones and slightly under eyes under makeup and then sometimes over makeup. It's a gorgeous glow, no glitter
And I'm a bit meh about most of her stuff

EnidButton · 26/03/2020 21:58

Sounds very good! Must be good if you love it 😊 Thank you. Is it the lightest one that you have?
