For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Thanks for the recommendations bo and Client I'll sit and do an order later. Sallie the weather doesn't help. I always have a halo of frizz when I put my hair up after washing (had it my whole life) but this was worse than usual. I'm actually going to take the shampoo back as I bought two. Narrowed it down to the coconut oil that's in it. So that's going on my avoid list too. Skin doesn't like it either.

Right I'll bore off now. Grin Hope everyone's having a good day. Any pancakes being made?

mintmagnummm · 25/02/2020 16:43

enid I'm making pancakes after dinner as a treat tonight x

Skinfulnappies46 · 25/02/2020 18:53

Hi all, not a big poster as very happy with current regime
Morning
Cleanse with Pai cream cleanser
DE Vitamin c
Ultrasun spf 50

Night
Cleanse pai cream cleanser
Alternate nights DE Retinol and DE framboose acid serum

Anyway, my DE Vitamin c ran out and I’ve ordered the Timeless Vitamin c..much cheaper.

Has anyone else changed from DE Vitamin C to Timeless and what are your thoughts.

SallieSallow · 25/02/2020 19:22

Wink I agree with Client it takes up to 2 weeks to get the full effect with Botox, that’s why you typically have the follow up appointment at 2 weeks so they can see how it’s settled and make sure you’re happy with it.

Enid My frizz is lower down (triangle effect) so don’t tend to get the halo when my hair is up. My poor fringe is not doing well though, it was literally standing on end when I got to work today Confused

Skinful I really like timeless Vit c but have never used drunk elephant’s so can’t compare.

Mint I’ll report back on the Purito, hoping it will see me through the rest of the cold weather as I usually go back to frezyderm once it’s warmed up and my skin gets oilier.

I’m not making pancakes as not a massive fan, might indulge in a hot cross bun though Smile

wink1970 · 25/02/2020 21:51

Wow thanks Sallie, Client and OP, I didn’t expect an answer after realising I had crashed your thread. Much appreciated.

I will read the rest of the thread & if I can contribute to frizz (probably mentioned already by others, I have Olaplex on the bottom 2/3 of my hair) I will add what I can xxx

EnidButton · 25/02/2020 22:32

Sall Mine's at the bottom mainly. I just seem to have lots of short hair around my hair line that will never be anything except fluffy frizz. You can't see it when my hair is down. Fringes are the biggest pain in the bum in damp weather. One gust of wind and it's doing it's own thing.

Mint We had them as our main and dessert. I made a lot. (Gluten free) After careful consideration I think the classic lemon and brown sugar is my fave. Nutella and strawberry slices also very good. Hope you enjoyed yours. 🍋

EnidButton · 25/02/2020 22:32

Ooh hot cross buns! Love those.

Pupsiecola · 26/02/2020 16:36

Hello everyone. I've had stuff going on and have been largely absent these last few months, but hoping to dive in again now.

I wonder if someone might offer some suggestions regards how I can help DS2 with his skin. He's almost 15. His skin is clear but he gets dreadful blackheads on his nose. Close up they're visible and lumpy and sometimes big whiteheads too.

He was using the same Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing face wash that DS1 was using for about a yeawr. He stopped that a few months back because it was making his skin sore. Since then he's been using my Cosrx Low pH Gel Cleanser (as has DS1, now 17). He uses it probably every other day but I've asked him to use it daily. I've told him to massage it into his nose gently for a little bit, and to try to avoid the sore bits (see below).

He also has very red, sore patches either side of this nose, in the creases. He's been using Cicaplast Gel B5 here but it's not helping. I did apply a bit of steriod cream there (OTC) for a few days a few months back and it did help but I don't want to keep reverting to that.

He has no other spots. His skin doesn't look oily or greasy. He showers every day. He doesn't tend to use moisturiser.

Any other products I could try please?

Thanks and hope everyone's well. Nice to see some familiar names here still :-)

Skinfulnappies46 · 26/02/2020 19:01

Thanks sallie. Price difference is what steered me towards it. Ant believe the price of the Skinceuticals Vitamin C. Would need to be a wonder product, however unfortunately I don’t have the spare ash to take a chance on it!
Has anyone here tried it?

SallieSallow · 26/02/2020 19:20

No I haven’t Skinful I tried The Ordinary Vit c (made me itchy) Vichy (likewise) and was about to give up on it as a product I just couldn’t use before I tried Timeless. Because I to react to some Vit c serums I was wary of trying the expensive ones, I swithered about the drunk elephant one for a while until Bo suggested timeless as being worth a try as it’s similar to DE but much cheaper.

Hi Pupsie 👋 lovely to see you Smile I don’t know much about teenage skin unfortunately, has he tried a salicylic acid/BHA or do you think that would be too harsh for him? Might be worth a GPs visit as given his age it could well be hormonal and they might be able to prescribe something.

Agree Enid fringes and wet windy weather are definitely not a good mix, I’ve started clipping mine back if I’m just out running errands etc but it doesn’t really suit me so don’t want to do that for work. And yes I very much enjoyed my hot cross bun, might have another tonight 😋

Jedstre · 26/02/2020 20:17

skinful I used DE Vit C (3 bottles in total I think) and have switched to timeless. The DE felt a bit richer to me. In terms of efficacy I didn’t notice a difference. I’m happy with timeless one and am on second bottle. Someone on here was having problems with oxidised DE stock from Space NK I believe. Price point of timeless much better as well.

Pupsiecola · 26/02/2020 21:01

Oh yes Sallie I forgot to say I've been using the La Roche Posay Effaclar Clarifying Lotion a couple of times a week and I've also tried a charcoal mask a couple of times (this is over several month, not all in a short space of time).

It was me who had an issue with oxidised DE Vit C. I'm happily using Timeless Vit C now and won't revert to DE.

mintmagnummm · 27/02/2020 06:35

sallie thank you, I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts.

mintmagnummm · 27/02/2020 06:36

enid ha ha I made them again yesterday for lunch! Love them and completely agree about lemon and sugar, just can't beat it!

I love nutella and sliced strawberries on toast!

SallieSallow · 27/02/2020 09:26

My Purito is waiting for me at the Royal Mail depot Mint might not be able to get it till the weekend now though, but will update once tested.

Pupsie I was thinking of Paula’s choice BHA as a lot of people find that the gold star treatment for getting rid of blackheads. I’ve seen something else OTC mentioned here on S&B a lot, think it might be acnecide (sp) but with him having those sore patches both of those may be too harsh.

Pupsiecola · 27/02/2020 12:36

Thanks Sallie. Thought of something else. He sleeps on his front, mostly and he runs quite hot at night despite having a low tog duvet all year round. I wonder if the weekly bedding change isn't enough. Perhaps I should change it every night for a while. Although as I said, he doesn't have any spots on his cheeks/chin etc.

EnidButton · 27/02/2020 14:20

I change my pillowcases every other day and wash them, along with my face towels and flannels, (they're all white), in ecover zero. When I was starting to make changes to get rid of acne I really think it made a difference.

EnidButton · 27/02/2020 14:21

Mint I'm going to have some more later. Smile

EnidButton · 27/02/2020 14:22

My spots were on my jaw, cheeks and chin though. Has he been to a doctor Pupsie?

Tsmummy08 · 27/02/2020 17:09

Skinful I've also switched from DE to Timeless - as Jedstre said the DE is a little more moisturising but the price point makes Timeless a better choice for me right now...

Hi Pupsie :) nice to see you again!

Bit of a late reply as usual, but Botemp I ended up getting some makeup/samples with my SpaceNK points - CT Collagen Lip bath (gloss) in the peachy colour, Nars Orgasm/Laguna mini and some E minis Slaai (sp?) cleanser and Protini moisturiser. Love the DE sample sizes, Nars is as expected (bought for travel/festivals) and I like the CT gloss but wish I'd gone for the pink - the peach tone is too similar to my skintone and makes me look a bit washed out!

And before I forget, I tried Lumene Arctic Hydra care cream as recommended by SH a while back... really lovely if you've got dry skin, although an odd scent... I was going to buy a full size but Feelunique have a sample service (buy 5 for £3.95?), so got a 15ml pot as part of that - great value!

mintmagnummm · 27/02/2020 18:24

sallie oops I may have just ordered the purito MINERAL spf!!! Scared!

Skinfulnappies46 · 27/02/2020 18:46

Thanks jedstre and pupsie . My timeless Vit c is coming in Saturday and am looking forward to trying it.

Skinfulnappies46 · 27/02/2020 18:49

And Tsmummy, just seeing your post. I agree, the DE is moisturise. But I can easily add in a moisturiser on top .

SallieSallow · 27/02/2020 19:11

I like timeless Vit c because it’s quite watery and not moisturising Grin in winter I use a moisturiser over the top, in the summer I don’t need anything as my skin gets more oily in warmer weather.

Mint is that the comfy water one? We’ll have to compare notes Smile

mintmagnummm · 27/02/2020 19:35

Sallie yep that's the one. Ha ha I'll look forward to it
