I think the embargoed announcement has been pulled because Prince Phillip has taken a turn for the worse .

AppleKatie · 22/12/2019 07:54

I actually think it’s quite clever. It’s a work uniform for him.

When you are dressed like a blitz ghost (I’m going to assume they use a different term for it though 😉) then certain things are expected of you (stand angelically next to granny and a bowl of dried fruit whilst not picking your nose for example). When dressed in your own clothes you can just be George, the kid.

William is effectively doing the same thing. Dress for the job you want and all that...

queenofarles · 22/12/2019 08:34

horsemad Shock that’s a bit mad

palliser I think he is dressed formally for the family lunch.
I do see some dressed very formally around here, literally like they are extras on the set of period drama like home fires or call the midwife. Tweed shorts and fair isle vest.

Horsemad · 22/12/2019 08:40

Haha @queenofarles, I agree with you! 😆

elfsocksandsnowboots · 22/12/2019 08:49

I know it is traditional but I've always found the putting little boys in shorts and long socks thing even in the middle of winter, horrible! Shorts in freezing temps, really? It's mad, and archaic.

My sibling was at a private boys school and was made to do this. He's only 22, so this was recent!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 08:49

As fond as I am of @BertrandRussell, 'twas I who said George dresses like the ghost of a boy killed in the Blitz! I notice that style of dress only seems to extend to him and Louis. Charlotte wears some lovely dresses but still looks fairly modern and not that different from a lot of little girls I see around.

Maybe I'm cynical but surely genius PR shouldn't be quite so...obvious? Things like this and the Mary Berry programme are so clearly an attempt to divert from the bad press surrounding the royals after the Andrew fiasco that it makes me even more of a republican!

I think it's a lovelymphoyo but doing it before Christmas lunch definitely means William and george are inappropriately dressed!! 😁

What really annoys me re all the ridiculous speculation about kate and William arriving separately is that william and george clearly had to turn up earlier. At least a fair bit earlier. But non one mentioned that at the time. I thought the whole thing was ridiculous anyway and said to dh that if people took the number of times we arrive separately at events with different kids as a signal of our marriage, we'd be on the verge of a bitter divorce. Its often just bloody practical.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 08:56

Was this definitely done the day of the Christmas lunch? Because that was at Sandringham and these photos were taken at Buckingham Palace.

frugalkitty · 22/12/2019 08:56

A few people I follow on IG have babies and are dressing them in some awful old fashioned clothes. No idea why, maybe they think it makes them look posh? I admit the first thing I noticed when I saw the pics last night was how daft George looks in that blouse/shirt. Still, it's a rite of passage for kids to grow up and look at their old photos only to ask their parents 'why did you make me wear that?' He's going to have loads of dodgy photos to look back and cringe at Grin

AppleKatie · 22/12/2019 09:02

I don’t know if it was definitely taken on the same day but the lunch was at BP.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 09:03

Ah ok, clearly I'd fail as a royal watcher as I thought the lunch was at Sandringham!

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/12/2019 09:05

The Christmas lunch was at BP on Wednesday.
George was wearing that shirt in the front of the car with William.

Those piped shirts are to George & Louis what coat dresses are to Kate.

Thé PR is doing it’s job. Focussing on the streamlined RF.
This has been on the table since the jubilee in 2012.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/12/2019 09:09

There may well be some coordinated Cambridges on Xmas day.
Kate knows what makes a good photo for the press.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 09:09

Oh it's doing it's job all right but I'm still surprised how many people fall for it hook, line and sinker. There are still questions for Andrew to answer and I hope the flurry of upcoming photo ops don't detract from this.

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/12/2019 09:10

Looks like we’ll have a brand new thread to discuss Xmas day.
Any title ideas?

queenofarles · 22/12/2019 09:11

George’s shirt is identical to the one from the front seat photos, so my guess it’s def on that day, if not then he probably owns several Rachel Riley pique piped shirts Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 09:15

George really looks like MM here, I can't see any Windsor in him except that he's blond like William was. I don't know who the lady in front of Charles is, presumably someone from the RBL.

That’s like a good ad for Mason Cash mixing bowls, should we expect a rise in sales? Wink

itswinetime · 22/12/2019 09:31

It just goes to show (not that we needed telling) how manipulative the press are. All that fuss and talk and not once did the say that William and George were what an hr earlier than the others, the just went full force down the there must be problems route!

hopeishere · 22/12/2019 09:34

People saying there's are to distract from Andrew are partly right but the Mary Berry thing was obviously filmed ages ago (bright high sunshine light) so was planed in advance.

The puddings would have also been in the mix (😂) planning wise for a while. Also agree with a pp that Kate dresses them this way so they're less recognisable outside of duties.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 09:41

Actually you're right but the Mary show could've been more to divert from the other rumours which, I think, emerged in the spring. It's certainly been an interesting year for the royal family!

paradyning · 22/12/2019 09:47

@peridito that 4 generation photo was the 10pm embargo.
I find it (the photo) rather annoying. I know it's 'good' PR but it's contrived and in your face, here you go, another 90 years of the monarchy stretching out before you.
Although that's another 90! Years of frocks and rocks so 🤷‍♀️. I'm a conflicted republican.

DevonUkelele · 22/12/2019 09:49

Those piped shirts are to George & Louis what coat dresses are to Kate.

^^this.

Total work uniform - he's seen in this for everything formal (bar those bizarre page boy outfits at weddings). From the pix with newborn Charlotte right through to on the BP balcony at Trooping the Colour,

Only question is, will Louis wear the handmedowns from George or will he get his own colour? Grey? Red?

Charlotte's look is similar, though less obvious because it's more timeless (less Blitz orphan, more cute girly frock).

paradyning · 22/12/2019 09:50

Ooo @QueenOfTheAndals we're gonna need a new thread!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2019 09:52

I know it's 'good' PR but it's contrived and in your face

Yes, that's what I was trying to get at too @paradyning. It doesn't look in the least bit realistic and do we really think the 4 of them contributed towards making the puddings for longer than the duration of the photoshoot? I'm not sure Charles and HM have ever cooked a meal in their lives! Still, I suppose it makes the royal fans feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside...
