Agreed.
Places like Versailles are open year round, but can still be closed for private events.
There’s loads of beautiful art in the Royal palaces and must be loads more in the Royal Collection which should be on display

BigGreenOlives · 20/12/2019 13:41

The title of the Royal Collection shows the problem, it belongs to the RF, not the nation.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/12/2019 13:44

Versailles is breathtaking & spine tingly at the same time. I got goosebumps in the Hall of Mirrors thinking about the Treaty of Versailles being signed there in 1919.
(Though didn't get the urge to scream & then faint as the room is so beautiful & the painted ceilings did make me think of Michelangelo & the Sistine Chapel................whatever did happen at the end of that Sistine Chapel Screaming thread?)

I also felt like Marie Antoinette whilst boating on the lake. Though I managed to keep my head, even though one of my friends nearly managed to drop an oar.

Love C&C's card. Yes it does look like they are both driving or is it Camilla driving & Charles holding on for dear life & smiling through gritted teeth whilst thinking 'Damn, Camilla I wish you hadn't had driving lessons with Pa' Crown Grin

Sweden's Prince Daniel is promoting organ donation in his segment of the annual "Year with the Royal Family" TV documentary. This year marks the 10th anniversary of his successful kidney transplant.

Oh dear, BBC have announced Prince Phillip has gone into hospital in London.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2019 14:03

Thé Monaco twins sound really American
I presume they go to some sort of international school.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2019 14:04

Oh no re: Prince Phillip.
I guess the Queen will have a rest then be helicoptered back down to see him.
I hope Phillip makes it through Xmas.

gingercat02 · 20/12/2019 14:10

Not a big fan but hope the DoE is OK
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50870869 horrible to have someone close to you in hospital at Christmas

TokyoSushi · 20/12/2019 14:15

HM looks lovely today!

Hopefully the DoE isn't too bad if HM has gone to Sandringham but sure they can manage the logistics.

Hope it's just a precaution rather than anything too serious.

PinkSun9 · 20/12/2019 14:17

Thinking of Prince Philip, hope he is comfortable and not in any pain.

He has become one of my favourite Royals after watching the Crown, the Windsors and reading up to learn more about him.

DontFearTheReaper · 20/12/2019 14:18

I know she has everything done for her but it is must be tough doing what she does at 93, even just from a physical point of view.

PinkSun9 · 20/12/2019 14:24

The BBC report on PP says it was a planned admission to the hospital. Couldnt the Queen have stayed in London to see him and then travelled (flown) back with him?

Encyclo · 20/12/2019 14:24

@Bean Are you ok hun?

Miggledy is wonderful!! I've loved all our recents Presidents actually.

There was that weird hiccup in the 70s when they all kept dying or resigning, then dying. Overall tho it's been a good system.

itswinetime · 20/12/2019 14:36

I think as the queen has gone from London to Norfolk today it's hopefully nothing to serious with Phillip. It does seem a bit odd she didn't stay with him but I guess the queen delaying her plans/tradition would make it seem like a bigger issue than it is?

whitershadeofpale · 20/12/2019 14:41

I don’t think the older royals are as caring or sentimental as the rest of us. They don’t really seem to visit if someone’s in hospital and don’t change their plans. PP was in hospital for Christmas a few years ago iirc and they just carried on as usual in Norfolk.

I think it’s odd the Queen hasn’t delayed travelling to see him but I think they lead pretty separate lives.

PinkSun9 · 20/12/2019 14:50

Yes its pretty odd that even if they lead separate lives, the Queen should travel in the opposite direction when her husband comes to London for a pre appointed visit to the hospital!! Prior to today, she hadnt seen him for months. A change of plan could surely have been arranged.

SenecaFalls · 20/12/2019 14:52

Hope Philip is ok. I'd like to see him make it to 100.

itswinetime · 20/12/2019 15:03

Reading between the lines of ten newspaper articles I'm not sure it was quite a pre arranged admission. I think it's very possible the palace are being slightly misleading. It reads to me like it's not an emergency as in ambulance rush etc. But I don't think it's been planned for very long either. I guess it's entirely possible they weren't sure when the queen left London if Phillip was or wasn't going to be admitted. Of course it's also possible that it's one of the weird quirks of being royal 🤷🏻‍♀️

WineOrGinOrBoth · 20/12/2019 15:09

I hope PP is ok. Maybe he prefers to be on his own when unwell. I do. Everyone thinks I’m weird.

Love C&Cs Christmas card.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/12/2019 15:37

A planned admission to hospital can also mean the hospital is rang by the GP to say 'I have Patient P here presenting with XYZ symptoms etc & blood tests indicate possible ABC so I feel he should be admitted straight to Orthopaedics/Geriatrics/Whatever Ward. He's being driven in by his son & will be there in the next 30 mins/hour or at such & such a time.'

Has happened with DD, DBro & DF.

Or any excuse to avoid Andrew!

whitershadeofpale · 20/12/2019 15:52

It’s the fact it’s a hospital in London too, makes it sound as if he needs specialist treatment. Otherwise why not go to one nearer your family?

Gooseysgirl · 20/12/2019 15:55

I think he usually goes to that hospital in London, I would be more concerned if he was in a hospital near Sandringham. Maybe his hip is playing up 🤷🏻‍♀️

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/12/2019 16:17

He's 98, I guess it's to be expected. There's a thread in Chat about it Duke of Edinburgh admitted to hospital.

Here's Empress Masako looking great on a kimono with the Uzbek First Lady who also looks very elegant.

And Charlene looks nice too but the most amazing thing about the photo is that she and Albert are actually arm in arm!
