I see I xposted there!

Scotland might become a republic but til then I think the Queen is also the Queen of Scotland separately - down to the Stuarts when the Tudor line ran out after QE1.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 19/12/2019 23:36

Princess Margaret giving the QM a bit of side-eye here. PM was beautiful though, wasn't she?

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 19/12/2019 23:40

Yes, I hadn't thought of her losing her husband then her home, very hard Sad

SenecaFalls · 19/12/2019 23:52

Technically speaking, the Act of Union did away with the separate crown of Scotland (and of England, for that matter). I'm not sure whether separation would automatically restore it although during the lead up to the first indyref Alex Salmond was assuring everyone that there would be a Queen of Scots after independence.

I see Miggle D Giggles is reduced Xmas Grin

Possibly too late to have him shipped for Christmas, but very tempting.

Technically speaking, the Act of Union did away with the separate crown of Scotland (and of England, for that matter).

The crowns of Scotland and England merged when James VI of Scotland inherited the crown of England and became James I and VI. The Act of Union merged the parliaments of both countries - nothing to do with the crown. If there was a separation then Scotland might choose to be a republic but Elizabeth II is the queen of Scotland - not through the act of union but by inheritance through James VI of Scotland.

SenecaFalls · 20/12/2019 04:12

The crowns of Scotland and England did not merge with the accession of James VI to the throne of England. It was a matter of two crowns worn by the same person, so a personal union rather than a political one. The merger happened with the creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain through the Acts of Union in 1707.

I love your knowledge Seneca

AngelaScandal · 20/12/2019 07:16

Our presidential system serves us very well. We have had some brilliant Presidents, Miggledy included. Not a Trump in sight.

paradyning · 20/12/2019 08:31

I think Queenie sounded like she had a sore throat yesterday

beanaseireann · 20/12/2019 09:16

I'm not a fan of Michael D as the Irish President.
runs away

queenofarles · 20/12/2019 09:43

I think it’s just old age, she is 93, and still very active. I honestly have no idea how she does it.

I’m 37 and after a busy few weeks I look and feel awful.

I wonder what she thinks of the younger royals when they complain of being exhausted and finding it hard.

DuchessDumbarton · 20/12/2019 11:21

Bean! you are a heretic and shall be burned at a stake!

DevonUkelele · 20/12/2019 11:22

Christmas cards are coming ... 💃🏼🎄💃🏼

Rather fabulous shot of Charles and Camilla for theirs.

What a great shot! I wonder where the idea came from? They're both bonkers enough to have thought of it!

megletthesecond · 20/12/2019 11:48

C&C's card is fab.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/12/2019 11:49

That's a great card, it looks like they're both driving!

@beanaseireann and it your right to disagree . Democratically.
And vote for the other madsers candidate accordingly.
I still love Miggledy though

queenofarles · 20/12/2019 12:10

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2019 12:16

Horsemad · 20/12/2019 12:18

Haha, love C&C's card! 😁

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2019 12:19

Prince Charles has said He & Camilla will stay at Clarence House.
I can see the attraction; it is a whole house rather than an apartment in the Palace.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2019 12:20

Likewise William & Kate will probably stay at KP and «go to work» at BP

vivacian · 20/12/2019 13:13

It would be an improvement if Buckingham Palace could be opened up, partly as a visitors attraction / gallery / museum but keep the public events such as the garden parties for charities.
