I think it is largely genetics .. do things like sun screen, water, diet, yoga etc really help?

Hi agree @kristinaM im 49, dont smoke, spf, vegetarian, face yoga!! Im aiming to look 46

People are deluding themselves mostly.

I think having been v attractive to START with helps. People like a beautiful face and some signs of agein dont ruin a beautiful face ykwim. Some do.

Some Youtubers i follow were gorgeous to start with. Hotnflashy angie for example.

Agree about the menopause and its effect. God help me this time next yr! My face could be around my ankles and ill be aiming to look 55

Verily1 · 27/11/2019 08:23

Not smoking
Not sunbathing
No sun beds
Not over washing
High fat diet
Lots of fruit/ veg
Facial massage
Flossing

Oh dear, so many sensitive people on this thread. I don't recall saying I live the rock and roll lifestyle! 🙄

TheoneandObi · 27/11/2019 10:21

Face yoga.
Please post links to best info. Am intrigued!

RuffleCrow · 27/11/2019 11:53

I really think it's a genetic lottery - my dad and maternal aunts are grey and lined in the face, my mum isn't. Guess who I got my genes from on both sides! Sad

Seriously considering box dye as can't afford to have highlights redone for months.

damnthatanxiety · 28/11/2019 06:59

SlightlyBonkers Angie hot and flashy is firehouse but look back at early videos. She looks soooooo different and way less attractive. No idea what's going on there. She says it's retinol. I've never seen retinol change the face and eyes that much Hmm

ageingdisgracefully · 28/11/2019 07:04

I think she has botox as well though, doesn't she?

I agree whatever she's done, it works!

The retinol she uses isn't available in the UK though. Unless you go private? Not sure.

Must try to get hold of some. Wink

It’s mainly genes for me. I’ve never smoked or sunbathed which has helped, but my mum also has good skin for her age and mine is the same.

On the other hand, my girlfriend looks a good 10 years older than she is because of her skin, and her mum and sister have the same deep lines. My ex also had deep wrinkles at an early age and his mum and sister had them too.

Runneryogi · 28/11/2019 07:23

I find the age people think I am varies. I’m 37 and I still get ID’d sometimes and was given a half fare on the bus this summer!
I’m slim, dress fairly young and wear no/very natural makeup
But I am getting some grey hairs and lines around my eyes, I think I’ve aged quite a bit in the last year

Delatron · 28/11/2019 07:28

Angie From hot and flashy looks great but she’s very honest that she’s has botox, fillers, lasers. She has been using Retin-A for years too.

Miniloso · 28/11/2019 07:36

I’m 51 and look mid/early 40’s. I’ve used spf in my moisturiser since my early ‘20’s. I have Botox in my frown lines since I was 40. I eat fruit and make sure I have avocado/salmon most weeks.
I’ve been using retinol recently and that’s been amazing for age spots and firmness.

Miniloso · 28/11/2019 07:39

I also do face yoga - it’s brilliant. Carole Maggio Facercise book.

Livpool · 28/11/2019 07:45

Genetics - my DM looks amazing for 72 (today!). And I always wear SPF 50 in spring/summer and SPF 30 or 15 all year round

I aged a bit after I had my DS but he is 4 now and I seem to have returned to my usual baby face.

I have chubby cheeks (whatever my weight) so I think that helps.

My DH says I am pickled from drinking in my younger years!

Roselilly36 · 28/11/2019 07:47

Genes

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 28/11/2019 07:57

Thanks @miniloso i will google that book.
I have done a few face workouts but i think the still images in a book may be more clear than a youtube clip

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 28/11/2019 08:08

a 60 something year old can look 45 i.e. matronly with a double chin, but not so wrinkly.
Interesting definition of being 45. I don't think I would describe anyone I know who is around that age as matronly.

KeraStase · 28/11/2019 09:45

I’ve used an amazing eye cream for past 20 years and don’t sunbathe. I think it’s mostly genetics though. We recently had a big school anniversary and I’m really shocked by how old some of my old classmates look and I doubt it’s because they’ve skipped creams/potions etc

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/11/2019 10:05

What’s the cream?

EntropyRising · 28/11/2019 10:06

Personally I think there's really nothing quite so ageing as the dreaded middle-age spread. Possibly smoking is a close second.

Moominfan · 28/11/2019 10:18

Black girl magic 😊

Magickl · 28/11/2019 12:21

Good teeth. Good posture (lots of yoga and pilates). Thick shiny hair. SPF every day.

Ffsseriously · 28/11/2019 21:42

@Runneryogi if you were given a half fair are you saying that at 37 you look 16, that seems a tad unlikely.

TheoneandObi · 28/11/2019 22:38

It’s harder to separate these days who naturally looks younger and who looks younger because they’ve had Botox. I haven’t.

MilliiMoo · 29/11/2019 02:09

I actually feel Angie Hot and Flashy has changed her face so much that she is not "her" anymore. I watched her from the start and I find it odd that she is this supposedly better version now. I would hate to look in the mirror and not see me anymore.

damnthatanxiety · 29/11/2019 16:53

Millimoo
Angie HotandFlashy has changed way too much for it to be botox and fillers. Her face has literally transformed. Her eyes are completely different. Looks like a classic blepharoplasty or eyelift surgery and rhinoplasty (nose). You just don't change this much through Retin A and injectables.
