I think it is largely genetics .. do things like sun screen, water, diet, yoga etc really help?

@damnthatanxiety I don’t know who the person in the pic is but I don’t think she looks that different from the before and after pic. Just some slight differences. Her face seems to glow more in the second pic. Maybe nose a little bit straighter and not so much of the hooded eyelids as well. But apart from that it’s not a drastic change.

Getoffmylilo · 29/11/2019 18:32

I remember when she used the chubby stick on her cheeks and everyone accused her of having fillers she hadn't had. A friend had a similar product and we tried it and to be fair, it really did make us look like our cheeks were filled out in a certain light. I do like her videos. I love Sharon Ann Anti-aging's videos more.

TheoneandObi · 29/11/2019 18:42

oooo yes. That’s not just ‘good genes’ 😜

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 29/11/2019 18:46

I'm a teacher, and kids are absolutely rubbish at guessing ages! Most guess early 30s, which is 10 years out.

I agree with have your kids young too. People are always surprised I have a 16 year old, and say I don't look old enough, but that's because they assume that anyone with kids that age would be older than me.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/11/2019 18:55

It's possible to look like a drinker or smoker.

And still quite young.

Definitely mostly genetics in my case as my mum and maternal grandmother have both been the same, and constantly mistaken for around 10 years younger. I think we all have fairly thick skin (literally!) and rounded features, and just don't get the fine lines and wrinkles a different skin type is prone to. Also we are all 5ft3 and under and I think that definitely adds to an impression of being younger when most people are taller than you.

I don't have a particularly healthy or unhealthy lifestyle... I don't smoke but don't really exercise much either. I always clean make up off before bed but don't use expensive skin care or lots of lotions and potions (currently just Lamazuna face cleanser bar and moisturiser). I'm careful about sun exposure these days but spent childhood summer sunbathing with my mum and it didn't affect her skin.

Mumsnet is always a mystery to me when the looking younger conversation pops up. Maybe its me who doesn't pay enough attention to peoples ages, but I honestly, don't think I've ever met anyone 40 plus, who does not look their age, give or take a year or so.

AwdBovril · 30/11/2019 21:06

Apparently I look younger than I am... some of DH's relatives, who first met me at our wedding, were heard muttering darkly about him "cradle robbing" - he's 2 years older than me, & I was 27 when we married. Apparently they thought I was still in school. I still got asked for ID fairly often when buying wine etc, until I gave up dyeing my hair or wearing makeup with any regularity a couple of years ago (am now nearly 40). I have no wrinkles at all yet.

I've never sunbathed, not even once in my life. I've only been sunburnt 2 or 3 times, & never on my face. Never smoked, or drank heavily, I like my fruit & veg, & I've never had a particularly sweet tooth or really eaten a lot of processed junk food. However I've I've always had quite oily skin (read: dreadfully spotty teenage years) & only started using moisturiser at about the age of 30 ish. And I always wear a hat outside, even just for pegging out the washing.

gypsywater · 30/11/2019 22:04

@ILikeyourHairyHands you look amazing!

ysmaem · 30/11/2019 22:14

Genetics. My mum looks a lot younger than her age (she's on her 50s but easily looks in her 40s) and I look exactly like my mother and have the inherited the looking younger gene 😊

@mumofthemonsters808 - I’m 42 and regularly get assumed for being 10-14 years younger than I am. When DP started going out with me, his friends were asking why he’d started dating someone so much younger.
Sometimes I love it, other times it really annoys me. In work situations, for instance, I don’t think people take me seriously, which is annoying as I run my own company. I feel like I need to prove myself so much more with new clients.
I’m very short and still get acne, which doesn’t help!

AwdBovril · 30/11/2019 23:09

Forgot to mention - I more or less gave up caffeine when I was around 20. These days my only caffeine intake is from chocolate, & I only eat a small amount of the darker, better quality stuff. Not every day, either.

My mum was fairly wrinkle-free until about 50, but she seemed to age pretty quickly in just a few years. Suspect that was a lot of stress, though. My DGM was fairly youthful looking even when she died at nearly 70.

tashakg89 · 30/11/2019 23:33

Ha I got id today in a restraint whilst sitting with my two kids, I'm 31 . 😂 defiantly genetics. I don't really do any skin care products or anything. My mum also looks young so i get it from her.

NorthEndGal · 30/11/2019 23:58

So this is me, right now, end of the day with no make up, no hair dye or products, no nothing. I'm that lady with the hair pits and no bra, and a pussy cat bowGrin
Also no filter, sorry it looks yellowish, and shiney faced.

I look at me and see my sun spots, bags and crows feet, my new grey strands and think I fully look my age.
People that say I look younger tend to be older ladies, so they think everyone looks young.

Ffsseriously · 01/12/2019 00:12

@northendgal it depends on how old you as to whether you look young or not.

U2HasTheEdge · 01/12/2019 00:15

NorthGal you look about 19. How old are you?

I look quite young for my age. It's just genetics. I come from a long line of women who always looked a lot younger than they are.

I smoked, eat like shit, do very little exercise, am always tired. It's just genetics.

MilliiMoo · 01/12/2019 00:18

ILikeyourHairyHands but how old are you

MilliiMoo · 01/12/2019 00:19

Northendgal agree, depends upon how old you are

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 01/12/2019 00:21

I’m under 5 feet tall, people always seem to assume i’m much younger than I am.

NorthEndGal · 01/12/2019 00:22

I'm 42

MilliiMoo · 01/12/2019 00:27

Northendgal you look lovely and very brave posting your photo.

QueenofPain · 01/12/2019 00:29

I am 33, turn 34 in July. The most frequent guess at my age is 25 or 26.

I think being chubby in the face and being generally lighthearted and enthusiastic helps.

NorthEndGal · 01/12/2019 00:35

@MilliiMoo thanks, but it's nothing I take credit for, cause I dont do anything to achieve it.
Kinda not brave either, it's really just a case of not giving a frig, haha! I just thought it's hard to judge if someone does look young or not.
There are only a handful of Canadian mumsnetters, and if any of them recognized me, I'd invite them for a drink in town. If someone makes fun of me, well , nbd, it's on them.
