I think it is largely genetics .. do things like sun screen, water, diet, yoga etc really help?

Same here @Ali86 i have looked at loads but they all seem a bit vague as to the face movements.

Gabrielknight · 26/11/2019 14:22

No make up. Dressing well. Genetics help People often guess my age wrong by 10 years

Ali86 · 26/11/2019 14:31

@SlightlyBonkersQFA yes I am alway worried that badly done facial yoga will make your more likely to get wrinkles by contorting your face into odd positions!

TheoneandObi · 26/11/2019 14:36

KristinaM I think you’re spot on. I think signs of aging really kick in around menopause. I had my first child at 29 and photos of us really do look like I’m a teenage mum. Fast forward 23 years and I look a little (very little) younger than my age. I know this because I’m always mistaken as the younger sister with my sister. I guess you could say I look good for my age rather than younger perhaps.

stripeypillowcase · 26/11/2019 14:38

genetics genetics genetics
a reasonably good diet
keeping a healthy weight
moisturiser

Gwenhwyfar · 26/11/2019 20:31

"in the UK everyone gets IDed"

Rubbish. It's definitely more common than when I was young, but it's also really far from the truth that EVERYONE gets IDed.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 26/11/2019 21:14

@Ali86 i found one youtuber called lilykoi hawaii. "Toning &Firming anti-aging face workout"

I have done it twice. Get a t spoon. 😁

Ali86 · 26/11/2019 21:21

@SlightlyBonkersQFA let me know if you get Id'd buying wine now!

shinynewapple · 26/11/2019 21:28

I spent most of my life being told I looked younger than my real age - probably up until late '40's. Good genes on maternal side, my mother still has only a few wrinkles in her 80's

Unfortunately since turning 50, my poor teeth (I think genes on fathers side) and poor posture seem to have had a higher impact on my overall look than my skin. Oh and I've now got droopy jowls! Definitely looking my age now.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 26/11/2019 21:33

@Ali86 ha ha well i am 49 but if my jowls stop catching me by surprise when i suddenly see my reflection. Im doing some exercises now. If i had the nerve id do them on bus!

Gwenhwyfar · 26/11/2019 21:48

" Being overweight makes people look matronly. They lose their neck and look dumpy. This is very aging. Of course being scrawny is also aging but to suggest that being overweight makes one look younger than being a healthy weight is a bit weird."

Being overweight can make a young person seem middle-aged, I agree, but I think it can also make an old person seem middle aged e.g. a 60 something year old can look 45 i.e. matronly with a double chin, but not so wrinkly.

HarrietTheFly · 26/11/2019 21:51

It really doesn't feel complimentary to not be taken seriously at work, assumed to be the intern, or to get judged by strangers for being a pregnant teen when you're actually 27, or asked your age by a bus driver who was going to sell you a child's ticket. Some people do look young. I don't mean they look good for their age, I mean they look considerably younger than their age. It's a thing and I wouldn't call it a good thing either. I'm not sure why some people don't believe in it.

Delatron · 26/11/2019 22:15

Lots of people look young at 27. It is very young. I’m sure you can pass for a teenager. There will be no wrinkles, sagging etc etc.

What people are saying here is once you reach a certain age (normally mid 40s) most people will look around their age as you can’t escape the ageing process. Some may look younger but not 10-15 years younger.

ScabbyHorse · 26/11/2019 22:20

I get told I look about 7- ten years younger than my age. Not sure how... water? Plumpness maybe. Lack of stress and lots of fruit, good fats.

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 26/11/2019 22:21

I’m mid 40s and regularly get told I look early to mid 30s. I’ve always looked young. No-one ever believes that I’m in charge at work. No secrets. Occasionally cleanse and tone (like once a fortnight), never use expensive moisturizers, minimal makeup, size 10, not well toned, small. I think I just have a young face.

BusterGonad · 27/11/2019 05:38

I have to disagree with a lot of this, I think botoxis aging as it makes you look weird and pushed your wrinkles to different parts of the face, also I disagree with bring chubby makes you look younger, I've put on about 1 stone in a year and I look older because I've got a slight double chin and a bit of middle age spread.
I think the only way to look younger is to live a boring existence of no booze, no cigerettes etc early nights, no kids, stay out of the sun and eat extreamly well. Tbh I'd rather be like Kate Moss, live an exciting life and have a lived in look! 🤣

BusterGonad · 27/11/2019 05:40

Oh goodness, so many typos. Im sure you get what I'm trying to say.

NotMeNoNo · 27/11/2019 05:56

Genetics. All my family look at least 10 years younger than a lot of people their age. I'm short and have a young looking face so I get patronised and not taken seriously if I don't over compensate, it's not about looking like a 25 year old supermodel!

Also moisturiser day and night since about age 15 and don't go out in the sun.

OhTheRoses · 27/11/2019 07:20

Money helps. Not so much on beauty products except my hair but even if you work 50 hours a week in a high stress job, you have a cleaner, ironer, good holidays and no money worries.

Worry, stress, unhappiness suck the lufe and youth from people.

ageingdisgracefully · 27/11/2019 07:25

I've got small features and a fringe. I try to stay slim too. I think small people are thought to be younger quite often cos they're little. Smile

I had my daughter older so I think people assume I'm younger.

And I've got good skin. (On my face at least). I used to wear so much panstick back in the day that nothing could get through..

My neck, however, is a different matter altogether.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 27/11/2019 07:58

Money! Yes. But not too much money.
The odd lap around Top Shop is youthful for the inside. Being RICH is not young.
Well that depends on yr circle come to think of it.

KristinaM · 27/11/2019 08:08

It depends what you think is boring . I HATE cigarettes, late nights, partying, sunbathing and eating junk. I LOVE eating well, exercising, seeing friends and travelling - to me that’s an exciting life and not a boring one.

Just as well we are all different.

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 27/11/2019 08:16

I dress like a happy idiot - multi coloured forest pixie in braids/pigtails. I, very embarrassingly, often get asked if I'm an art student (late 30's). Funnily enough, I never get asked for ID when I'm in my much more toned down, more sensible work clothes....

damnthatanxiety · 27/11/2019 08:18

BusterGonad
I don't equate smoking and drinking to excess as 'fun'. I do however absolutely love going to the gym. I get seriously hyped after a workout. I also enjoy foods that are probably what you consider boring and I really don't enjoy greasy fry ups. I hate the sick feeling I have after eating crap. Each to their own I guess.
I agree with pp that bring small makes people think you are younger. I'm only 5'3" and I think smallness is instinctively connected to youth.
