“or perhaps George and/or Charlotte are upset if they have been taunted about Prince Andrew at school“

Actually- that has a horrible ring of truth.....

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2019 17:55

Hah maybe @justasking111 but it's hardly a taxing evening is it?

I have bailed on events because of the children before now, I never regretted it. Family first in our home.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 21/11/2019 18:15

I agree Beetrand. It was my first thought. She doesn’t usually let people down I don’t think so it’s definitely confusing.

Some information about Meghan's lawsuit against certain - - lying disgusting-- tabloids:

Legal papers submitted to the High Court in London show that Frogmore Cottage doesn’t include a reported $6,500 copper bathtub, $650,000 of aircraft soundproofing, self-contained yoga studio, orangery or tennis court. According to the documents — submitted by Meghan’s lawyers in her legal case against Associated Newspapers (owner of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday) — Frogmore Cottage also doesn’t have a “guest wing” for her mother, Doria Ragland, to stay in either.

Filed on November 11, the legal papers detail the finer points of Meghan’s suit against the publisher, which accuses the Mail on Sunday and its parent company of printing “untrue” stories in an attempt to portray her “negatively.”

In addition to debunking the Mail’s claims about Frogmore, the legal action also centers around the newspaper‘s decision to print extracts from a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex to her dad, Thomas Markle, 75. The royal mom, 38, claims the letter was printed without her consent and was carefully edited to paint a deliberately inaccurate picture of her relationship with her father.

“The omitted or suppressed parts of the letter amount to almost half of the actual contents,” says the court paper submitted by Schillings solicitors. “The omitted parts demonstrate the claimant’s care for her father and others, as well as her concern about the UK tabloid media exploiting her father.” The legal draft goes onto refute claims that Meghan didn’t inquire about her father’s health or attempt to help him medically or financially. Instead, it states that she “has a long history of looking after her father’s welfare and trying to find solutions to any health problems.”

The documents add that — contrary to reporting — Thomas did not telephone the royal ahead of her May 2018 wedding to explain that he would not be able to attend. Instead, it says Meghan reached out to her dad before the wedding in order to “protect him, as well as to ensure that he would be able to come.” She also “did not ignore” her dad afterward or argue with him about his decision to not attend, says the text.

Turning to claims that Meghan didn’t include her mom at her April baby shower in New York, the legal papers describe the suggestion as “untrue and offensive” to the duchess. It continues, “The claimant’s mother was of course invited, and the claimant also offered to buy her airline tickets. However, her mother was unable to attend due to work commitments.” It adds that it was also “untrue and offensive” to suggest that the guests were entirely drawn from a relatively new circle of celebrity friends. “The baby shower (which actually cost a tiny fraction of the $300k falsely stated in the article) was organised and hosted by one of her best friends from university,” says the court papers. “The fifteen guests who attended the shower were close friends and included long-term friendships some of which had existed for over 20 years.

Re: the Kate absence. Maybe Kate can't bear to be out on official duties in the light of the Andrew scandal.

Maybe she's worried about a poor reception?

hopefulhalf · 21/11/2019 18:27

My bet is Bea or Eugine were going to babysit but now can't.

Spudlet · 21/11/2019 18:34

Of all the reasons for Kate to be needed for her children, I think the Andrew scandal affecting them is the most likely. If they were ill, they’d surely have said in the announcement, if it was a normal costume / homework / whatever drama, their nanny would be more than capable. But if they’re being upset by what’s going on, it’s only natural that they’d want their mum to be there. And Kate certainly strikes me as a mum who would be there, from what you see of her with them.

Poor children, if so. Being born Royal has its perks, but I wouldn’t want it for my children.

MrsGrindah · 21/11/2019 18:54

I really doubt her kids will be aware of the media storm around the useless Andrew. I really think the palace gave that excuse because the real reason is nobody’s business.

itswinetime · 21/11/2019 18:58

I'm inclined to agree that the kids have been wheeled out as an excuse for something we aren't meant to know. I guess they didn't want to put and out as lie and say they are ill but what other excuse could they give for her to be fine to do the afternoon event and not the evening event.

beanaseireann · 21/11/2019 19:01

She may just have the trots.
Had she met some of those involved in the charity already today at lunch time ?

Perhaps she became unwell with a bug afterwards, and this has nothing to do with what she ate at lunch.

justasking111 · 21/11/2019 19:08

Well Fergie turned up at the palace this afternoon, maybe that turned her stomach. I really feel for them all this chaos caused by Andrew made worse by Fergie, William and Kate have worked so hard to keep the monarchy on an even keel. Wasn`t it Diana who said "After all I have done for that family" in her early days of marriage.

It just goes to show the saying that you cannot choose your family is so true although the Middletons really are a life raft in this sea of sleaze. I would be going to ground myself this evening after days of family drama.

FATEdestiny · 21/11/2019 19:08

I wonder if there is a terrorist threat to her?

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2019 19:13

Would children George and Charlotte's age be aware of what's happening with Andrew? I'd understand that if they were teenagers but at 4 and 6?

“ Would children George and Charlotte's age be aware of what's happening with Andrew? I'd understand that if they were teenagers but at 4 and 6?”

I’m pretty sure a Year I would, I’m afraid. People talk, sadly.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/11/2019 19:20

They’ve probably got the Moro virus and want their mum.

Spudlet · 21/11/2019 19:22

They might not be aware of the specifics, but children can be extremely perceptive and pick up on more than people think. If there’s a lot of stress and tension flying around at home it could affect them, especially if there’s more at school. Charlotte has only just started school and George is still very young too, it could have left them unsettled and clingy.

BigGreenOlives · 21/11/2019 19:41

Thank you @QueenOfTheAndals, I’m very late to this thread

RosinaAlmaviva · 21/11/2019 19:47

“or perhaps George and/or Charlotte are upset if they have been taunted about Prince Andrew at school“

Actually- that has a horrible ring of truth.....

This sounds closest to the mark to me too. Sad

Rhubarbisevil · 21/11/2019 19:57

I think Kate has pulled out because she doesn’t want anyone to put her on the spot and ask her about Prince Andrew. She doesn’t want any media attention in her in case she says any words which are misconstrued and end up in the Daily Fail screeching KATE FUTURE QUEEN SAYS FEED HIM TO THE DOGS!!!

paradyning · 21/11/2019 20:00

Parents' evening?

hopeishere · 21/11/2019 20:07

Would have thought parents evening would have been scheduled in ages ago. Maybe the nanny is sick / had a family emergency. Doubt it's anything to do with Andrew.

Gooseysgirl · 21/11/2019 20:09

It's very odd... maybe it is something school related that genuinely got accidentally missed off the calendar 🤷🏻‍♀️

RosinaAlmaviva · 21/11/2019 20:11

On a lighter note, I'm disappointed to learn that Frogmore doesn't have a $6,500 copper bathtub.

Clutching at straws, maybe there is a copper bathtub, it just didn't cost $6,500?

MrsGrindah · 21/11/2019 20:15

Or maybe Kate just didn’t have a single thing to wear?!
