You have to forgive me for my atrocious writing... just re read it ...

botemp · 20/01/2020 18:29

The dress looks lovely Red but I'm very distracted by that picture. It reminds me of the very odd hairdresser pics from the late nineties. I think it's just the hair and the lack of expression in the face. I'm now wondering which Rixo skirt you bought as there were many and they all looked liked your thing.

That's some impressive celebrity clocking. I feel the pressure coming on now for my upcoming Paris trip, I'll have to spot Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton couple dressing to surpass that star power.

Just for clarification since it was forever ago and the Chloe boots never left my mind that same can't be said for everyone else. They're these (I got the burgundy colour) as I seem to forgot to have posted them with my previous post.

Madrid some fabric - I think I meant made of some type of fabric Confused

Agree bo the photo of the model in the dress is very baffling. I look better than that! Or I like to think so Wink
Will take photo of the rixo skirt later. It is a black with yellow and green flowers, the print on paper looks super naf, but I can see looking great with a simple tee and trainers in the summer (pure silk and hand wash instructions), or now in winter with slouchy jumper. Maybe even with a black blazer I have with zips ... not sure I will try it, but definitely will make use of it for various summers to come.
Tbh Bo LBM looked it had been raised by a locust storm and that rixo skirt I got was the only thing in my size, there was nothing left but then they probably replenish the sale stock?

Redandblue11 · 20/01/2020 19:08

Oh CR must follow us as the first thing I noticed was a very high quality green wool coat so I actually turned round to see the coat and then I saw her face under a fedora hat.
Sir Ian was in black with this chiffon pink scarf. I think he must also follow us as not long ago we had a pink ‘momento’ in this series!!

botemp · 20/01/2020 19:10

Locust swarms 😱😱😱 they have to leave something behind for me but moreso Elle as she's been fed stories of LBM being a bargain paradise, locusts cannot make me out to be a spinner of such high tales... Was it all in one area now or still all over the place? They usually add stock from their online shop at some point but I think that's nearer the end and when it's all in one dedicated spot.

How about you two PM each other and set up some public couple dressing sessions and show up MF & DK?

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 20/01/2020 20:38

I am sure there will be plenty behind. The sales is still all over the place and there is plenty , but I was very focused on what i had decided to get and did well not to get distracted in other stuff ...

XingMing · 20/01/2020 21:02

Oooh... fangirling for Sir Ian and CR... stylish celebrities and serious thespie credentials... Reminiscences..saw Sir Ian play Romeo opposite Francesca Annis at Stratford, while they were both much too old even then, it was a decent production.

Floisme · 21/01/2020 18:15

I am star struck. First Mrs Owens and Rick, now Charlotte Rampling and Ian McKellen.... All I need is a sighting of Jane Birkin and I will die of envy.

botemp · 21/01/2020 18:28

Do two (on separate occasions) of Jane Birkins daughters (the famous ones) count? One even complimented me on my dress...

Celeb warning though, if you're flying business class on KLM and seated next to Kofi Annan, he will steal your freebie Delft blue house (with Dutch gin inside) while you're asleep Hmm

Arket trousers are not as atrocious as the Cos ones, but I want them to have a bit of movement, more skirt like, I suppose, these just feel to stiff. There's a whole article on one of the Dutch fashion mag sites (Vogue or Elle, I forgot) today as the trouser to have now (although lots of throwing about potentially frumpy and unflattering), bugger it I'm late to the party already... Unhelpfully they only linked some dodgy looking Celine pairs. Now eyeing attached ones from Massimo Dutti but they're sold out in my size and none in local shops, they have a pair in Antwerp where I'll be next week before Paris so I'm keeping fingers crossed no one buys them, but this means travelling with boots, not sure how sensible that will be.

Daughters are cool but Jane is la reine.

botemp · 21/01/2020 19:41

I think JB would actually be one you wouldn't spot all that quickly.

Hot off the presses, new Uniqlo U collection here, it's the US site so date is probably different but can't find it on the EU sites yet. Looks like they've finally listened to you Flo, there's a rather expansive selection of the curve trousers and trousers that have that shape. I like the look of the belted skirt but a bit averse to all the pastel.

Floisme · 21/01/2020 19:42

Hurray! Thank you, off to look.

ToEllewithIt · 21/01/2020 20:37

time sympathies on the fires raging, but congratulations on the house purchase

I think the compliments are such a weird one. People close to me are more likely to compliment me on a nice jumper, but people that I know less well are much more likely to compliment me on something that a bit of a statement. I think sometimes when you wear something that’s a bit “out there”, noting that that looks wildly different from person to person, your clothes can almost demand a reaction. Unless the people concerned are rude then they’re likely to go with a compliment. Funnily enough I experienced this yesterday and any time I wear the dress attached; I get lots of compliments. The strange thing is that I am not actually that keen on this dress. I mean I like it and it’s handy when I’m going to the gym pre-work as it’s just one piece to bring and doesn’t need accessories, but the pattern is a bit much for me. I think because it’s out of my wheelhouse it can seem to demand a reaction.

bo I love the cullottes. Maybe Paris can be a culottes hunting expedition. I was actually hoping to find some where I got the Celine skirt. I’ve been playing around with that skirt and a sort of blousy ruffled top and my black boots. Add aviators and attitude and it’s Hedi fan girl in a cool way. Without the sunglasses it’s going totally Little Women, which is current, but not really the look that I was aiming for.

red sounds like an amazing trip.

I agree re the pastel shades of U collection. I like the skirts and the round neck top though.

timeisnotaline · 21/01/2020 20:55

Did kofi Annan really steal a delft house of gin bo?? It seems such an odd thing todo. Also, I’d love a delft blue house with gin in itGrin
I don’t know if you can assume Charlotte Rampling reads this, she definitely comes with her own cool. It’s a lovely dress elle I can see why you get compliments! I like the slouchy pleated stories dress, they can be very flattering.
I have been looking at shipping and as long as I assume no returns, very tempted to buy boots from the U.K. in the sale. Ankle ones probably, low to mid heel. I haven't been looking very hard as spend most of my time thinking about gardening, we have a big task ahead.

Redandblue11 · 22/01/2020 12:45

Here is the rixo skirt I tried while wearing a jumper didn’t have time to look for another, and ended up just putting some ancient suede boots.
Not the colour combination I was going for it was just to show you, but looking at the photo is not terrible, or is it?
Not sure you can see but is full wrap around and has a frill going up.
I like the movement it has while walking or just moving.
It is 100 silk, hand wash and had and extra 20% on top of the 50% discount. I think I ended up paying £50 ish pounds and as I said I can wear it loads in the s/s.
I have plain tees in green, yellow and white so that should work.

The maison pere dress, also heavily reduced I think I paid less than €60. Sorry for out of focus photo makes the seam look shoddy and the reality is not like that.
It is hand washable, it is lined in a very fine cotton underskirt.
Now I wanted to quickly show you but I ended up putting it on top of a white loose long sleeve top I was wearing so the fitting and bumps are showing in the photo , the fit is much better irl. Also I got hold of the wrong belt just to show you belted ... you have to imagine with a better belt,
What I like is that I can wear for both work and going out.

I like the dress Elle, but I get what you mean about things you're tepid about and others being overly enthusiastic. It's a bit of an affront to your actual tastes and how well others seem 'to get it'. I'm sure there are lots of sociology/anthropology dissertations out there that chronicle our social behaviour around dressing and complimenting. I often feel I have to reciprocate a compliment but then am annoyed as it's not really a genuine compliment on my part and I tend to overdo it to detract from the fact it's an on the fly panic compliment.

Culottes in Paris does sound like a geographically appropriate challenge but it would still require bringing the boots along and I'm not sure how sensible it is to essentially be breaking them in there. On the plus side, dresses and skirts take up a whole lot less room in luggage.

Not supposed to speak ill of the dead and all that so we'll call it a donation to the pursuit of world peace (think he was still in charge of the UN at the time), but yes, time. It was observed by others that the little house was placed on the little shared side table by the stewardess and then it was gone, so it was extra sneaky. The little houses are quite cute, the adult men who obsessively collect and trade them and include them in the family Christmas cards, not so much. Never took KA to be one of them...

Ah that is the Rixo skirt I thought you'd gone for, Red, when I saw it looked very botanical and I know you have a spot for all things botanical.

Lots of lovely photos. I like that dress, Elle, but I know what you mean, statement things often get complimented. Nice skirt, red, but I really like your boots. I want a cute delft house (but I wouldn't steal one).

On the culottes front, I was walking behind a very chic Japanese woman yesterday, wearing very full, needlecord culottes in a dark green. They almost looked like a costume, full skirt from a historical drama. She paired them with a colour block motorcycle jacket, very flat ankle boots and long wool socks. It looked very effortless and warm.

quirkychick · 23/01/2020 16:52

Ah, I've just read that through apologies for the grammar. I'm typing in a rush before heading out for a parents' evening.

XingMing · 24/01/2020 09:53

Io would have complimented you on that dress, Elle. And applause for red's Parisian acquisitions.

No buys to report here, but I saw a wonderful vintage woollen Guernsey (navy with a single white stripe around sleeves and body) with the badge for the Royal Navy Winter Sports Cresta Run team, which spoke to me... except I look like sh*t in Guernseys. It was also very much washed, but the historic connection with the original wearer.

To enable, if you know anyone who would love such a garment... it's in a large size, you'd need to wear it very loose, or be quite big to get the echt fit. I could find the dealer easily enough.

banivani · 24/01/2020 11:54

Oh Kofi Kofi Kofi - the shame! could it be that his Swedish wife was a collector - sounds like a thing a Swede might do ;)

Red, you're very lucky in your purchases (and obv skilled to know to get them), they really suit you! And am also fangifling over your celeb meets. Their outfits sound great.

Speaking of coats, I was reading an article about Swedish company Rave Reviews who upcycle things - scroll down for the coats made from wool blankets. Must say I am quite taken with them, they appeal to the bohemian in me! www.elle.se/hallbar-inspiration-nar-rave-review-visar-aw19-kollektion/

I saw the Uniqlo U preview and am so thrilled to see yet another Uniqlo sludge themed collection. So so thrilled. Would the colour red, just as an example, actually kill them? The only colour I am ever able to get in that shop is navy blue.

Also looked at their Isable whatsit collection, and it's all very pale. Or navy. But the shirt dress looked nice.

banivani · 24/01/2020 11:59

In other news I am quite taken with the idea of these trousers from Zara. www.zara.com/se/sv/byxa-med-pressveck-och-knytning-p02165457.html?v1=42114950&v2=1445759

botemp · 24/01/2020 12:20

It's a bit of an odd combo of materials though, they look like summer trousers but are a wool polyester mix Confused like the look of them though.

I'd been admiring the Rave Reviews coats on matches fashion a while back but they're scarily expensive and they're the sort of thing I always think, well anyone can make that. Except they don't, but I still think the price tag is stupid on it. A few second hand blankets and an industrial sewing machine (also secondhand or borrowed) would probably cost me 10% of what they're asking for it and it's not like it actually requires a lot of finishing, shoulders may be tricky but beyond that it's mostly straight lines.

Honestly, I hope they were for his collecting wife because the men who collect them are a bit fanatical and odd about them. There was a particular urban myth that had my dad and his colleagues all pissing their pants and crying out in horror about a recovered alcoholic who, in a low moment, decided to down his entire collection (making them lose their value instantly) and they're quite hard to open, a tough wax seal of sorts, so the rest of the collection got smashed when drunk and frustrated.
