Looking at Kate's patterned dresses - which I don't particularly like - reminds me of a relative of mine, who is completely against pattern of any type on her clothes. She never buys patterned clothes for herself and rarely for her children. Myself I find that I am attracted to patterned clothes and buy them but then regret it as I spend an eternity looking out for a matching outfit. So I should probably take notice of her rule really!!

Looking back on the photo selection of KM in the midi floaty dresses, I think both the v neck and high necklines do nothing for her. I think the style of the Cath Kidston dress (not the print) looks fantastic on her, and I think it's because it gives her a fuller looking figure.

RosesAndLilies · 31/10/2019 04:26

Pearl's post is a definite Leti fail! The skirt looks ripped/damaged & the shirt is ugly

Rare mistake

Those photos of the Queen and her family are fabulous- what a wonderful photographer. If I were a member of the Royal family I'd buy them.

BertrandRussell · 31/10/2019 08:17

In terms of historical archive, I think it’s great that the RF were early adopters in photography and film. Some of the “home movies” Phil took are amazing.

peridito · 31/10/2019 08:42

That's a good point BR ,now you say it I wonder why I didn't think it myself .

I am so touched by posters wishing me better ,strangers expressing care ,I'm a bit at a loss for words ,except to say it made me feel a bit better ! Thank you .

On the mend and wondering how members of RF cope when feeling ill and having to perform !

beanaseireann · 31/10/2019 08:55

peridito glad you're feeling better.
Re RF members feeling ill and having to go to engagements- what if you suffer very bad period pains and you've to go to some engagement and smile through it. I know most of us have had to do it at some stage but not while cameras are flashing in our faces and Mumsnetters are critiquing our clothes.

frugalkitty · 31/10/2019 08:57

Glad you're feeling better peridito I missed that you were poorly, sorry.

latedecember1963 · 31/10/2019 09:19

I remember a conversation with my mum years ago after Princess Anne had been criticised for being surly/snappy at an event. My mum suffered from horrendous period pain in her late teens and early twenties and said to me that she wondered if Princess Anne had the same problem. This would have been at a time when "womens problems" were not talked about openly as they, thankfully, are today.

IfWishesWereFishes · 31/10/2019 09:37

On the upside @beanaseireann that engagement will likely be the only thing any member of the RF absolutely has to do that day.

StartupRepair · 31/10/2019 09:54

I remember years and years ago, like early 70s, Princess Anne was in Australia and threw up at some event or in the car. I remember my mum saying 'poor girl.'

BertrandRussell · 31/10/2019 09:59

I’m not saying it’s not a reasonable suggestion- but Anne must have had a lot of periods........Grin

BeaBravo · 31/10/2019 10:04

I've had Bert's back on several threads over the years - grammar schools, calling out ageism, defending MiLs - but I think she makes some mean spirited comments about Kate Middleton all over MN so I'll call her out on it and if that makes me "odd", so be it. Bert doesn't seem to be capable of considering another point of view or entertaining the notion she might be wrong on occasion.

Anyway, less Bert more frocks and tiaras. My favourite ever royal from a purely style & beauty perspective is Caroline of Monaco in the 70s/80s. Ravishingly gorgeous!

FATEdestiny · 31/10/2019 10:12

Bitch personal attacks on posters are irrelevant to this thread and I think less of the people who make these comments than I do who they are about.

I wish I could report such comments but don't want to, for risk of drawing negative attention to the thread with MNHQ.

Please stop and go away.

latedecember1963 · 31/10/2019 10:15

The conversation I remember was probably mid 1970s, StartupRepair.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 31/10/2019 10:37

Not royal related but due to another insomnia attack last night I fell down the rabbit hole of Pinterest and spent quite a bit of time looking at images of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. She was a stunningly stylish woman who I think would have been just as much of a style icon today.

BlingLoving · 31/10/2019 11:12

Don't we have any formal evening wear events coming up? a) Kate is brilliant at evening wear and b) I'd like to see a non Pregnant Meghan in something suitably glamourous. I feel like it's very basic at the moment.

Am not commenting on personal attacks but agree with FATE. It's not nice, nor necessary.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 31/10/2019 11:47

Next significant event is Remembrance sunday

itswinetime · 31/10/2019 11:52

The next definite formal event is the diplomatic reception at Bp in December I think. Kate and William go but Harry and Meghan didn't last year. I can't think of another one that's for definite unless there is a state visit but I would have thought we'd know about that by now if not the details that it was happening.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 31/10/2019 11:52

Festival of remembrance at the Albert Hall on the 9th.
So lots of black frocks and coats that weekend.
