No thanks

MotherofPearl · 30/10/2019 17:53

I agree with @Hairydilemma about the dresses - like the spots and even the brown one, but some of those florals are just so fussy.

Hairydilemma · 30/10/2019 18:10

Ah thank you Mother, was expecting to be roundly shouted down on the dresses as I don’t remember there being a lot of love for the spots. I’m quite partial to a spotty garment Grin.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 30/10/2019 18:14

Does anyone remember the awful abuse Fergie used to get for being overweight, she used to be known in the tabloids as the Duchess of Pork and they have been horrendous to both Beatrice and Eugenie.

escapade1234 · 30/10/2019 18:36

There’s a middle ground between being extremely thin and overweight, surely?

escapade1234 · 30/10/2019 18:36

I mean, she can weigh whatever she likes, of course. But I don’t think anyone can say the media demand royalty to be pin thin.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 30/10/2019 18:39

Delurking to say that there are a couple of people who jump on and seemingly deliberately misinterpret almost everything BertrandRussell says and come across as determined to pick a fight over trivialities. It's really quite odd to watch as an outsider.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 30/10/2019 18:39

The thing is - if you look at the pics of Fergie she was slim! And her girls have lovely figures.

Bloody tabloids. Poisonous bastards.

I LOVE polka dots Blush

“ It's really quite odd to watch as an outsider.”
It’s really quite odd to watch as an insider too! Grin

I like the navy spotty one best. It looks a bit 50s-all it needs is a petticoat.

I didn't think @BertrandRussell was criticising Kate, she was making an observation about women in the public eye in general. Being slim is their choice of course but people don't make choices in a vacuum.

Back to fashion and I quite liked both polka dot dresses and also the marmite Erdem.

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 30/10/2019 18:50

If I could arrange for her never to wear Erdem or Emilia Wicksteed again, I would!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/10/2019 18:53

I agree Wickstead can be dull but I do like some of her Erdems. Except the chartreuse satin one, that needs to be taken out and burned on the nearest bonfire!

I agree @Insertdeadcatsnamehere it's like a few people are waiting to be offended in some way.

Bertrand has a quite forthright posting style but I don't mind it! @BertrandRussell I'd have a pint with you anytime Grin

BertrandRussell · 30/10/2019 19:30

Wicksteed offends me as a sewer because she seems to have a talent for making expensive fabric look like market stall crimplene.

BigGreenOlives · 30/10/2019 19:41

Gosh these threads move quickly, I’ve been reading this one but didn’t have time to post until now.

I like midi dresses at the moment, short feels frumpy.

frugalkitty · 30/10/2019 19:51

I liked the sporty dresses more than the florals. I think for Kate, she needs quite simple lines so the dresses with too many details (frilled hem, plus pattern, plus ties at the neck etc) are just too much on her. And as ever, I really don't like the high round neck line she seems to favour, I'd like to see her in a boat neck or deep V just for a change.

thisenglishlife · 30/10/2019 19:51

The Wicksteed are a bit dull and some of the Erdem ones are really not flattering.

I quite like the polka ones. I think Kate looks best in casual, simple day or stunning evening looks. The fussy day things such as prints or overly tailored items less so. She looks great in dark, bright or jewel colours but not wishy washy, dull colours/things (few people do!).

Here's two wishy washy prints I saw today that I didn't like. One is Erdem!

The blue sporty dress with the collar is the best. Was that by an Alessandra somebody designer?

Wickstead did one of my favourite wedding dresses of late. The Lady Charlotte Wellesley one.

paradyning · 30/10/2019 20:06

Spotty. Not sporty.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 30/10/2019 20:16

I love those old photos - thanks for posting!

MotherofPearl · 30/10/2019 20:22

Leti looks chic but I'm afraid I really can't bear an asymmetrical hemline. That blouse is also a little odd. But she's always so pulled together so I shouldn't nitpick.

Yes to this ^^. The pivot to outrage on here is enough to give you whiplash sometimes.

frugalkitty · 30/10/2019 20:39

Mine's a very unladylike pint of cider if we're planning a trip to the pub please Grin
