Here we go - future royal engagements

Cambridge and Sussex events tend not to be there as they announce them on social media.

Makes you realise how much the Wessexes and Princess Anne do. The Duke of Gloucester seems pretty busy too!

And Princess Alexandra. It is such a shame that we are not generally aware of all of these engagements -- no-one can say they're not pulling their weight, and sadly with little recognition.

I feel sure that on the whole the visits are appreciated from the organisations they support.

@ajandjjmum - I think that this is a lot about what the royals are usually about ie not so much media attention as getting out there and actually meeting lots and lots of people so that individually they all feel the love. Hence the ribbon cutting and church fetes etc. I've said before that I wish Kate/Meghan/Harry/William could do more of this but I can't work out if they don't because the sheer logistics of their profiles and attention they receive make it difficult or that they want to be doing things in a more modern way where they're focusing on using the media and their profile.

But if you think about when you occasionally hear from people who have met them in a more natural/low profile way, the impact on those individuals is always massive. From the stories you hear about ex soldiers who have been visited by Harry to people running into Kate just in daily life.

@BlingLoving I think there's less of an expectation of them as they are the monarch's grandchildren rather than children. Once Charles becomes king then I expect they'll step it up a notch.

I see the Cambridges are attending the variety performance this year.

I think the older royals are less interesting to the general public and unless the press are invited photos don’t appear. It used to be that you couldn’t use photos when they were attending an event without the royal’s consent but things have loosened up over the last few years. Now they ask for pictures so they can use them on IG etc

I think the Queen and Charles are happy that William and Harry spend time with their young children and creating a solid marriage in their early days. It can't start the same when Charles is King, they will have to be much more active.

@paradyning and @beanaseireann, I think the scuttlebutt at the time was that William and he didn't get on, for whatever that is worth.

My suspicions, such as they are, are based on nothing more than finding it coincidental that a young woman and a man are in a relationship for a decade. It ends quite suddenly once she is more easily able to marry - and the man is quickly engaged and then married to another woman within a year or two.

Perhaps "suspicions" was the wrong word. Maybe it's just interesting timing.

Anyway, congrats to Bea now - I hope she has whatever wedding she wants, and a long and happy marriage.

I'd like to see Bea happy too. She seems a lovely young woman. I bit too fond of a nice holiday but probably no more than I would be if I had her money and connections.

Grief @pastaparadise - those trousers truly are dreadful! Leti doesn't often get it wrong but they're a fail from me.

I like Leti's suit apart from the slits in the trousers, they just scream 'Elvis is in the building!'

@MotherofPearl it's a reception/dinner for a charity that the royal is a patron of - just black tie, so there will be no gowns or tiaras, or famous faces to report back on, sadly.

Because it's not in the diary I can never remember at what point I am allowed to say anything, but I will come back to the thread tomorrow evening, although I probably won't really have anything very interesting to say 🙂.

I think there are probably many events like this at BP and St James's Palace that are never publicised anywhere.

I have been to a reception at BP a few years ago. It was very disappointing. Hosted by PC who arrived late and left early, and didn't speak to anyone there! I thought he looked very old and not very well. I didn't like the vibe of BP either. It felt sinister and unpleasant. It was interesting to walk around the rooms and the huge grand stairs, but it felt like somewhere no one would want to live really, and I felt sorry for the Queen having to live there for part of the year.

I've been to Buckingham Palace to see the ceramics collection some years ago, and thought it was a gloomy and depressing building, but the state rooms probably look a lot better when lit up and glittering.

On a fashion note, Her Maj is giving up real fur on any new garments.
