Perfume advent is x 3 samples yes?

MrsMoggs · 07/11/2019 19:45

Star Star So Flora, this is up for debate with this year's participants, but last year the deal was:

  • I allocated each participant two dates when it would be their turn to open, sniff and report back
  • I sorted us into pairs. (Like doing a football draw!).
-Pairs pm'd their addresses to each other. -Pairs sent each other two small packages to unwrap on 'their' dates.

These were usually samples or DIY decants of their favourites (sample bottles available from ebay). Because you are all very lovely Perfumistas, people tended to research their pair a bit, either by reading back through the thread or asking about notes they liked or disliked. But this really is just a bit of fun, so not anything to agonise about.

  • Pairs each sent the other their wrapped packages well before their turn to be 'it'.
  • I pm'd details of how to add text to the calendar.
  • On their day to be 'it', Perfumistas unwrapped one of their packages, enjoyed the scent, then went to the calendar and added remarks in the text box for that date. Some clever people also added pictures.
  • Some people left long reviews, other short snappy reactions. It was all good.
  • The other Perfumistas clicked on that date and enjoyed reading about that day's scent.

Hope I have explained this OK? It sounds really complicated, but wasn't so bad in practice.

All: do we stick with this format this year? Star Star

MrsMoggs · 07/11/2019 19:49

Hooo - because we have lots of participants now it will only need to be two this year. (Apart from one pair doing 3). Recruiting one more person would be neat!

Hoooo · 07/11/2019 19:53

Cool! :)

MrsMoggs · 07/11/2019 20:04

Star Star Calendar theme question: have been playing with the design variables and think I can rustle up the following options: a) '80s Kristmas kitsch', b) 'traditionoel' or c) 'Nordic but nice'? Apologies, you can see I'm now starting to get carried away...but would you vote now for your preference...Star Star

thisenglishlife · 07/11/2019 20:06

Oh wise perfumistas...
I love mimosa perfumes, especially L'artisan Parfumeur Mimosa Pour Moi (one of Halle Berry's favourites, apparently) and Atelier Cologne Mimosa. Can you recommend some other Mimosa scents that you've tried? I think Prada have one. Dupes from Perfume Parlour also appreciated

Thank you!

Hoooo · 07/11/2019 20:07

Nordic but nice would be my vote :)

Thank you mrsm you're a ⭐

Hoooo · 08/11/2019 06:55

Oooh I'm excited :(
It's the only advent calendar I get!
Can't wait to find out who my advent twin is...then the desperate search through past posts to see what they like! 😂😂😂
I'm doing a school talk today but sotd will be pp by the fireplace. I need comfort.

Mimosa is in one of my all time favourites: knowing by estee lauder :)

Try mimosa by demeter or baby grace by philosophy.

Hoooo · 08/11/2019 07:25

This just popped up on a friends fb page:

From proverbs:

"Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the pleasantness of a friend
springs from their heartfelt advice."

❤😊

teta · 08/11/2019 09:08

Wearing Ffern Autumn . The mulchy smokiness is much better in cold weather.
@thisenglishlife try Champs Elysees by Guerlain. It's a lovely Mimosa with other notes and is pretty inexpensive. Also I love the Mimosa in Noix De Tuberose by Miller Harris.
Yes, agree with a Nordic theme for the advent calender.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 08/11/2019 11:17

Popping in for a brief bit of enabling:

Allbeauty.com have 75mls of Mitsouko EDP for a frankly ridiculous £38.95.

Just sayin' Grin

Also a colleague just came into my office and said 'oooh it smells lovely in here' - that's Lush Vanillary (post-weirdy top notes) for you!

KaliforniaDreamz · 08/11/2019 13:07

SOTD despite 3 showers is still Tuscan Leather - this has staying power!!!!!

thisenglishlife · 08/11/2019 13:35

Thank you @hoo and @teta

teta · 08/11/2019 14:27

Wearing Private Collection Jasmin Moss, plus the box of Cire Trudon perfumes. I really enjoy the top and middle notes of the Cire Trudon but I'm not keen on the base notes and the prevalent candle wax smell. I do like Deux as that's very typically Lyn Harris to me with a sharp green snap blending in to the warmth of incense, ambroxan and Cashmere. I think that's the only one I could wear . But to be honest I think the Jasmin Moss is absolutely stunning in comparison and vastly superior.

Sote avon timeless

MrsMoggs · 08/11/2019 19:59

Haven't sniffed them all yet I but am pleased with the Cire Trudon travel set. Beautifully boxed and complete with a booklet containing explanatory notes.

Revolution is a bit like a Beaufort (huge dark cade note) but after an hour (during which time it would repel swans) it becomes a much tamer smokey wood.

As a frankincense lover, Mortel is interesting. A reserved, clear and grave incense and labdanum combo, that has an almost lemony quality. A bit like the TF treatment of vetiver in Grey Vetiver, it's calm but with bags of gravitas.

And Olim is love at first sniff, a powdery lavender-vanilla that nods to both L'Heure Bleue and Jicky (but isn't sicky). Lovely stuff. Smile

MrsMoggs · 08/11/2019 20:20

And Bruma has the iris note from Traversee du Bosphore, sandwiched between an unusual dry vegetal green opening and a soft suede.

SOTD Jazz Club. Happy Friday, everyone!

Morning.
Dh is home from China.
It's very frosty and cold out there today. Should really do some cleaning.
Ugh.

MissBattleaxe · 09/11/2019 08:06

@thisenglishlife try Papillon Angelique ( you can get samples from the Papillon perfumery website) or there's a new Yardley range that has an excellent mimosa.

teta · 09/11/2019 09:47

I'm testing again @MrsMoggs. Just Bruma today. I adore the snappy top notes of lavender and Galbanum and then the Purple haze of the Violet and the most beautiful gentle iris. I will wait and see how the base pans out. At the moment it smells really similar to Iris Prima. To be honest I think it's my nose as the Jasmin White Moss smells pants today as well. It's too cold for cool chilly perfumes and it's sleeting here.

MrsMoggs · 09/11/2019 10:14

I'm easily pleased Teta! And I do quite like these luxe scents from the candle houses that seem to speak softly - these 5 made me think of Tiziana Terenzi's Bella Oudh. I like the richness, combined with the limited projection, as it makes them so much more wearable, and they are interesting without being hard work.

Have now tried II which smells like a green (and less sweet) Amour Nocturne to me - must be the treatment of the cedar note. Was figgy on opening, but less so now. I'll wear 4/5 of these a lot.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 09/11/2019 10:38

Hmmm, love the sound of the Cire Trudon set but is this the £90 travel set? Am really trying to be good and cut back on personal indulgences in the run-up to Christmas! Olim sounds wonderful though...

I'm driving my dad to a big antiques fair tomorrow so will keep an eye out for vintage bargains, more my budget atm!

SOTD is...well I started off with Eau de Memo from the HN box, but it felt too citrussy for a chilly November day, so I oversprayed, randomly, with Lanvin Cardamome (a vintage treat from MrsM). It's working pretty well - I think leather in Memo suits the cardamom Grin
