SotD Archives69.

Meetup too far south for me sadly and I've only got half a days leave left unallocated for the rest of the year so would struggle to make one wherever it was in the country at the moment.

BR540 · 20/09/2019 17:18

SOTD Burberry classic. Just got home and poured myself a glass of champagne and dabbed a bit of Al Rehab Soft oil on (lemony, musky, vanilla).

Promised to do some baking with DD tonight, then plan on a bath and evening of hogging the remote control all to myself as DH is out.

MrsMoggs · 20/09/2019 18:41

Intrigued by all the Theo Fennell being dumped for pennies at TK Maxx. Loads of EDP in my local branch. I wondered if it had gone back into production, but have just compared bottles and the one I purchased today has the same batch code as the one bought about five years ago. If anyone sees the little parfum bottles please message me!

Anyway, I was so excited to pick one up and no longer to be eking, that I sprayed myself very liberally indeed even before leaving the car park, looking forward to an immersive skank-fest in the privacy of my own car.

Anyway, what I forgot was that I was driving directly to school. Spent 30 minutes in a presentation in a tiny and extremely hot classroom with 30 kids and all their parents. We were crammed in like sardines. Blush Blush Blush

FloofyCatDoesTerriblyBadThings · 20/09/2019 19:05

Isn't the TF one the one with cumin or something similar? If it's the one I'm thinking of I'm not surprised TK M are begging people to take it off their handsWink apologies for any fans Grin it's one of those that I think really suits people, or really doesn't, and it's like sweaty fur Envyon me. I can imagine it would be amazing on the right skin though.

A Perfumista Meet Up sounds amazing, and I would absolutely love to go but don't think travelling away from home solo is wise at the moment. I do look forward to living vicariously through you all and hearing all about it though, there needs to be a secret signal/flower in buttonhole thing perhaps? Does anyone remember the Scarf of a 1000 scents? Grin can't remember to turn the hob off but can remember that

SOTD is Chanel 19, prompted by clucky (and welcome btw, did you get anywhere tracking it down?) I don't know why I didn't like this until this year. I have my eye on some vintage on eBay at the moment but I really can't be doing Bad Things...

MrsMoggs · 20/09/2019 19:08

Quick! Need your help Perfumistas...popping round to see a pal in a sad place. Tragically I usually take some samples round to sniff together. She's requested mood lifting fragrance tonight. She hates Shazam! which would be my top pick. What should I take????

MrsMoggs · 20/09/2019 19:12

Yes, Floof, that's the one, but it's the most luxurious, rose and saffron scented, sweaty fur you'll ever smell. Smile

Hoooo · 20/09/2019 20:30

Bit late mrsm but I like powdery clean scents when I'm sad...

Bloody love this

clucky3 · 20/09/2019 20:37

Thanks floof I'm none the wiser as to whether I've got a real one or not. Didn't get around to wearing it until today and it does smell lovely, quite different to the EDP (which I also love). Surprised how long it's lasted too, squirted it 12 hours ago and I can just about detect it on my arm now.

Mrsmoggs I wouldn't have Shazam in mood lifting territory. My faves to make me smile are: eau dynamisante, angel muse (bit controversial, never met anyone else who likes it Confused), serge Lutens fleur d'orangers, Tom Ford plum japonais (don't have the original, just a perfume parlour dupe), and jo malone's grapefruit.

teta · 20/09/2019 20:46

Uplifting scents to me are Citrus, Rose and sandalwood , plus orange blossom.
There's some Theo fennel perfume on Fragrance Direct ( or there was yesterday).
Sotd if Ffern summer - 😍.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/09/2019 21:42

SOTD Kiehl’s Musk, but now in pjs and FM POAL. So pleased it’s the weekend. I am still choked up and coughing at nights, so desperate for a big sleep. DP is threatening to shut the cat in the kitchen overnight, otherwise she opens our bedroom door and jumps on us as soon as it gets light. I think that would be mean, since she’s not used to it - where do other perfume cats sleep at night?

OP posts:
Hoooo · 20/09/2019 22:31

I love angel muse clucky :)

MotherOfDragonite · 20/09/2019 22:39

Oy, you've been poorly for ages Judy. Hope you feel better soon. The cats we had when I was a child were always shut in the kitchen or utility areas overnight, they do get used to it (and one sleeps so much better!).

SOTD was... I forgot a SOTD!!! (SO unlike me these days)

I did sniff appreciatively at a lady on the school run and discovered that she was wearing a dupe of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla. Omg she smelled so amazing. I really need to try it. Although what are the bets that on me it smells like stale cigarettes? Habanita was like that on me...

Hoooo · 20/09/2019 22:44

I have 2 small sample splash bottles of bulgari eau vert if anyone is interested?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/09/2019 23:18

mother thanks - I am no longer ill, it’s just annoying!

DP has gone to bed, so cat-face will not be shut in the kitchen. I think if we’d done it when we first got her it would have been okay (it’s a big kitchen, and she has a litter tray in the utility room off it) but not fair now she’s five.

I had a full bottle of TF TV, and actually sold it - I found it just too sweet and a bit cloying once it dried down. There’s a MAC one that’s an excellent dupe and about 1/5 of the price, I think it might be Velvet Teddy.

BR540 · 21/09/2019 07:54

Judy when we had cats there was no way they would’ve tolerated being shut in the kitchen. There would’ve been all night meowing and scratching until we released them to roam freely and sleep wherever they damn well pleased. But they were very spoilt creatures Grin.

I love Next Cashmere, Hooo. Have Next discontinued it? I keep bidding on bottles on eBay and losing out when they suddenly go for loads at the last minute.

Hoooo · 21/09/2019 08:34

No, it's still in the shops and online BR

I love their eau nude too.

Well, ds2 has kindly shared his lurgy with me so feel like crap, and I've GOT to go out at 10am.

Ugh. Bleurgh.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 21/09/2019 09:03

We shut our cats in downstairs, but that still leaves them a big old space to wander and lots of nooks in which to hide. Plus they do spend a lot of time outside at night anyway - most summer nights they don't come in at all. In our old place they were allowed to wander up to the bedrooms, but here I must admit I did instigate a 'no cats in bedrooms' policy because they shed soooooo much [badcatmummy]

Feeling a bit delicate this morning - dp and I went out to the theatre and left halfway because it was rubbish and I drank beer on an empty stomach which is always a terrible idea for me. Everyone is out of the house though so I'm lounging in bed with tea and toast...bliss Grin Expecting a delivery of vintage Mitsouko today so I expect SOTD will be that.

FloofyCatDoesTerriblyBadThings · 21/09/2019 09:10

Mother was the TF dupe the perfume parlour one maybe? It smelt like Vicks on me but I think I thats my weird skin, I know other people really like it and all the other TFs I have tried have been brilliant, to be fair.

MrsMoggs I'm probably too late but I thought of What I Did On My Holidays? It's a happy , good memory evoking, scent, I think. It's an interesting question isn't it? For me, for cheering up, I like the comfort of familiar smells, especially old vintage ones from childhood like Anais Anais and Obsession. I hope your friend is OK.

Hooo and judy I hope the lurgy departs soon!
Perhaps you need the Vicks like PP Tobacco Vanille? Wink DD2 is full of cold and suffering too, I'm really hoping I don't catch it but the odds aren't good.

(Surely it's Rule Number One of Cat Ownership that cats are allowed to sleep where they like Grinours likes to sleep on my chest Blush DH leaves for work before dawn and tries very hard not to wake her (it's worse than having small DC) but if he does, it's Playtime Hmm I quite frequently have to give in and feed her at 4 She has the loudest neediest miaow I've ever heard, if I shut her in the kitchen she would wake the street us)

MrsMoggs · 21/09/2019 09:30

Many thanks for suggestion, Floof, Hooo, Clucky, Teta. (Hope I haven't missed anyone).

I did make up a little box, which included WIDOMH, Pampelune, New York 55, Royal Bain de Caron, Valentino Donna Rosa Verde and Miu Miu Rose, but promptly left it on the kitchen table. Blush So I just fished out the most promising things from my handbag Blush Blush; Si was the favourite!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 21/09/2019 10:50

I love that you have a load of scents in your handbag that you can just produce at any given moment MrsM! Not that I would expect any less from you Wink

Sooooo. my ebay haul arrived and it is glorious. I have Givenchy III on my right wrist and Diorling on my left.

The Diorling is fascinating. Woody, green, leathery, almost nutty. It stays very close to the skin though, and despite two big spritzes is almost imperceptible. Do I love it? Probably not, so far. Is it interesting? Yep! It would be a great, subtle masculine, I think.

The Givenchy, however, is divine - oakmoss, galbanum, aldehydes but also warming and earthy, with that definite 'morning-after' feel that Luca Turin describes. It is old enough to stain my skin but none of the notes seemed to have turned. I am in absolute heaven and might just sit here sniffing my wrist all day.

Sadly, however, I've got a mountain of washing to tackle and a house to hoover. I wish my life lived up to my perfume Grin

MotherOfDragonite · 21/09/2019 13:15

Floofy, the dupe she was wearing was by a vegan perfume company called Eden Perfumes, so actually I have just gone and ordered that! It didn't smell like Vicks but it did smell strongly aromatic as well as sweet.

MotherOfDragonite · 21/09/2019 13:15

SOTD here is Ffern summer. Getting a lot of lemon verbena on me, but also something interesting and spicy now it's colder. A lovely scent.

Hoooo · 21/09/2019 14:04

mrsm I've got ds2s snotty lurgy so I haven't managed to get to the post office this morning.

I'll post on monday x

Hoooo · 21/09/2019 14:07

The givenchy sounds amazing maud!
