Charlotte & Georgevdont go back till tomorrow ( Private schools!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 10:24

Looks like CPM got progressively more glamorous as each child started school. Her 2007 top and jeans are so very mid-noughties!

I would not be entirely surprised if KCG retires, but I think he would be quite old before he did it so CPV:s children are older. Just a hunch, possibly because it would be kinder to her. It depends on our constitution though, tbh I'm not sure it's allowed.

But the others I agree will die in office.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 11:35

KCG is only early 70s isn't he? From what we've seen of her, I think CPV would make a great monarch but I'm sure she'd rather not do it while her children are so young.

Most of the recent abdications have taken place when the crown Prince’s children were teenagers.
I think Spain was an exception to divert a scandal.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 04/09/2019 12:37

Do you think Kate gets given her clothes or are they loaned? Just musing because if she rarely wears anything more than a few times she must have hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of clothes just stored away that will never see the light of day again. Seems horribly wasteful, doesn't it?

This was asked many threads ago and a historian answered it. She said the clothes are given away apart from the clothes that have been photographed for big occasions (christenings, portraits, I think perhaps Diana’s iconic black dress might have been too) . Those clothes are catalogued and put in storage.

She said the clothes in storage have historically been well made from good material and high street clothes will not be put away as the quality wouldn’t last over time.

queenofarles · 04/09/2019 13:17

Kate wore high street dresses on both occasions she met the Obamas. The Riess Dress is, might I say iconic?Shock . It ought to be archived too.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 04/09/2019 13:32

The engagement dress? Yes that was archived but they have a much harder job trying to ensure it lasts.

I doubt everything they wear meeting head of state are archived. I think she said it’s more the dresses for events that will part of the RF’s lives eg christenings, weddings etc

“Their style is very American”

In what way? Specifically?

I find their Instagram posts, the "inspirational" quotes, the banana writing, the very staged photographs, very Hallmark in tone. This sort of stuff seems to go down better with an American audience. I'm sure they would be very popular in the US if they decided to make the move.

BertrandRussell · 04/09/2019 14:09

“She said the clothes are given away“

I wonder who to?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/09/2019 14:16

Friends, charity.
There was a story a while back where the housekeeper of a posh friend of Diana’s was given an evening dress ( which hadn’t been widely photographed; but enough so it could be recognised) and it was sold.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 14:18

I wonder too. Should we be scouring the charity shops of Kensington and Chelsea to see if we can find Kate's high street castoffs? Having said that, once they've been altered to fit her perfectly then who else would be able to fit into them?

Ok, here it is:
Diana second hand dress sold for £155,000

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/09/2019 14:20

I bet there’s some little old ladies in Norfolk dressed to the nines in lime green, neon pink and buttercup yellow !

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/09/2019 14:22

A lot of Kate’s high street stuff goes to Pippa and Carol. I think you’d have to scour Buckinghamshire for Kate’s cast offs.
I think some of those coat dresses may reappear in 30 years time à la Princess Anne.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 14:25

According to this article the Oxfam in Kensington is another place to go if you're after royal castoffs.

J brands, LK Bennett’s, ME+EM,Hobbs, riess what else? Maybe they are on eBay?

BigGreenOlives · 04/09/2019 15:03

I think they give some stuff to charities like dress for success too. I saw a lovely dress today in the window of Hugo Boss Sloane Square for Kate.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 15:09

Smart Works might benefit too!

II really felt for poor little Charles in that episode of The Crown where he was sent to Gordonstoun. I mean, I know it was just a tv drama but he's on record as saying he hated it.*

I read some gossip press that said that, that episode really upset the queen who insisted Philip was not that cold and uncaring as a father and that it wasn’t true.

Who knows. He certainly hated it and I suspect didn’t fee able to tell his parents quite how much at the time.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/09/2019 17:49

There's the million ££ question - does HM watch The Crown??? I think if I was her I wouldn't be able to resist! I thought that episode did a good job of exploring Phillip's school years too and explaining why he did as he did. His childhood wasn't exactly blissful either.

BigGreenOlives · 04/09/2019 17:50

Sorry I forget the names of all the charities as I’ve worked with several of them.

Suited & Booted is v gd for men.

The photographer Peter Lindbergh has died. Meghan has paid tribute to him on Instagram as he did the cover of last month's Vogue.

AppleKatie · 04/09/2019 18:33

The rumours are fairly strong that she does watch it. Surely you’d have too (I so would!)

I agree that episode gave an excellent Phillip exploration. Perhaps it was either too close to the bone or two far away from reality to please HM.
