Long time lurker, rare poster. We are all admirers of Q Marguerite, so thought you'd like to see the love being shared in light of the non-visit (came up on my twitter feed). Not great fashion pics, but great regal style!

Marguerite doing her thing

Thanks for the new thread Queen.

I've been here all the time but with a name tweak rather than a wholesale change Wink

Spudlet · 22/08/2019 20:01

Has this been posted? Blogpost on Kate and her priorities: fromberkshiretobuckingham.blogspot.com/2019/08/kates-mojo-is-marriage-motherhood.html?m=1

Not sure what I think of it but if it’s old news I won’t elaborate and drag the conversation back!

Tablefor4 · 22/08/2019 20:02

Also - funeral clothing was at the request of Christina. Colourful generally, and sunflowers were her favourite so that might explain the lots of blue and yellow.

I felt the pictures were very intrusive and close up though for following the casket.

Wetdogloveshubert · 22/08/2019 20:12

Wine I'll have a mojito or pina colada, please. Thanks for the new thread, @QueenOfTheAndals and direction towards style Wink Hopefully we will see them at church this weekend, and finally get some more style coat action.

I liked that article @Spudlet

Here’s a [[http://fromberkshiretobuckingham.blogspot.com/2017/12/kates-best-of-2017.html retrospective of Kate’s outfits from 2017; the year before these threads began.
I had forgotten some of those dresses. The ones in Paris were the best!

How nice to see them all wearing flowers for Princess Christina, and I liked Willem with a beard too!

Daisypie · 22/08/2019 21:28

Loved the sunflowers and the bright clothes. Except for Princess Laurentian's lime green pant suit. She is worth taking a look at for s&b - makes some brave fashion choices.

Wetdogloveshubert · 22/08/2019 21:31

I really liked that blogpost, thanks @Spudlet. An interesting perspective on society's expectations of women, as well as the RF, and finding your own path.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/08/2019 22:04

Lovely piece, @Spudlet.

I know Kate is in a privileged position because she can choose, but I think she is absolutely right to make her family her priority. I admire her for not being goaded by the media to do more "royal work". I'm fairly sure when her children are older we'll see her take a full and active role as a working royal but right now what she is doing in bringing up the next generation is potentially much more important to the future of the monarchy.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 22/08/2019 22:14

I would imagine once Charles is king & she & William are Prince & Princess of Wales they will have more to do.

I can just imagine the DM etc headlines that Kate has stolen Diana’s title - forget 100’s of years of history.

Stravapalava · 22/08/2019 22:28

Hey, is it too late for a drink?

I was watching that video and I must say I admire the Queen and QM for dancing in those tiaras. The DC and I were trying on the tiaras in Claire's Accessories yesterday but they weren't quite what I was after!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/08/2019 22:35

🍷 here you go, @Stravapalava

lavenderandthyme · 23/08/2019 00:03

I really enjoyed that blogpost too spudlet
Very accurate too. Kate looks amazing in that white dress with red shoes and hat!!

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2019 00:06

I assume everyone’s seen the video of Anne’s second marriage at Crathie? I’ll link if necessary. It’s simultaneously charming and chilling.

justasking111 · 23/08/2019 00:19

A bit Hammer House of Horror in parts I agree.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 23/08/2019 06:45

Justasking That was a fascinating video of the dancing at Balmoral! Does anybody know about the dress code for these events - eg the wearing of tartan sashes like the one worn by Princess Anne?
Diana’s dress is lovely, but I’ve heard she hated going to Balmoral? She must have been newly wed then (1980s).

hopeishere · 23/08/2019 07:00

I've visited Balmoral - it's really beautiful. So isolated - I can see why the Queen loves it there. A good long walk together on the mountains for Harry and William would clear heads and hearts. If I were the Queen that's what I'd be making them do.

Daisypie · 23/08/2019 07:55

Loved that Balmoral dancing video. Amazing to hear the Queen reflecting on her own life and routine like that.

banivani · 23/08/2019 09:18

Thank you for posting the Balmoral reel video, very interesting. I'm wondering if they were more sedate knowing the camera was there, at about 1.48 there's a bit of a hint of faster spinning ;) QE:s commentary is very interesting and explains a lot about how she thinks and her sense of duty. I think you need a sense of duty to manage being royal - there must be a disconnect in these modern times because it's obvious how archaic and, fundamentally, unnecessary it is. But duty means you carry on, unless the people explicitly say they want you out. You yourself are unable to opt out.

Spudlet · 23/08/2019 09:33

I’m glad others enjoyed that post too (I know I’m late back to this but I’m having to be strict about my evening screen time at the moment as I have insomnia). I have really mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it’s her choice and inasmuch as you can tell, it seems to have worked for her. On the other though, prioritising things as she did in the early days was a high-risk strategy as she could have been left with neither career nor marriage - and there’s an inequality in the relationship (imo) that doesn’t sit well with me.

Although I guess if you adhere to the idea that the Royals are not just wealthier and more famous but also somehow superior to the normals, that inequality is baked in from the start?

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 23/08/2019 09:35

Shame the new title wasn’t ’More issues than Vogue’ with all of the media backlash against the Sussex’s.
