I think Tracey Emin wins hands down. Yes it’s not traditional summer wedding attire but at least it’s stylish and co-ordinated!

beanaseireann · 31/08/2019 18:16

Ellie spent all that money on an amazing wedding but her dress is ghastly ( sorry Ellie). The high neck is not a good look.
The bridesmaids look like they are bridesmaids from a wedding in The Handmaids Tale Shock
The flowers are beautiful as are the venues.
The Yorks outfits are meh.
Cressida Bonas shoes are a bit casual for their outfit.
I like Lady ? Blunts dress but not the hat.

paradyning · 31/08/2019 18:17

The DoK married at York Minster
orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2011/06/wedding-wednesday-duchess-of-kents-gown.html?m=1

I love her dress. EG's not so much.

mathanxiety · 31/08/2019 18:17

I think the dress was the epitome of clean/ simple. Maybe she wanted to steer away from her usual red carpet/showbiz look, which is often closer to MM's Stella McCartney dress

paradyning · 31/08/2019 18:20

I'm sure she'll wear something edgier this evening.

itswinetime · 31/08/2019 18:25

See I would say the dress was the opposite of clean and simple. It looks fussy the high ruffle neck the beading the sleeves! I think isn't one of those things could of worked (maybe not the beading colour) alone but together it's too much

lavenderandthyme · 31/08/2019 18:28

ell! The bride and bridesmaids look like they're extras in the Handmaids Tale or a Hammer film about vampires. On the vampire theme, Beatrice and Sarah look like they've wandered off the set of Twilight and most of the other guests appear to be in fancy dress. It's quite bizarre and disappointing .

Ha ha!! This just about sums it up.

lavenderandthyme · 31/08/2019 18:28

Really don't like the brides dress at all and her hair is a mess.

MollyButton · 31/08/2019 18:29

The Duchess of Kents dress was marvelous and would have looked better today than Ellie's I'm afraid.
It does look like a "made more expensive" version of the high necked Laura Ashley cotton dresses of the 70s. But without the light weight and simplicity, lacks even their charm. Too heavy fabric for the style, and too embroidered.
A bit like trying to make "that Zara dress" out of Damask.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 31/08/2019 18:30

I like the idea of the bride's dress if not 100% sold on the execution. It looks like a proper bridal gown, rather than a prom dress in white. It's a bit heavy and I'm not mad on the beading but so suppose that's what makes it a designer piece.

I'm utterly baffled by the other guests. A few years ago the style would have been fitted and elegant. Now they all look festival-bound. Which would be perfectly fine if they hadn't (probably) spent a small fortune to look that way.

I'm delighted to see Ellie's mother is a Tracy/Tracey! Was reading another thread about names we don't hear these days and Tracy was one of them. I only know one other but in my teens there were dozens. They all seem to have disappeared, like Ford Cortinas.

banivani · 31/08/2019 18:52

That was a very interesting wedding in terms of style! It will either be remembered as the style-breaker wedding (the one that introduced high necks again) or else fade away as a complete anomaly of the late 2010s... can’t say I loved all of the outfits but it wasn’t conventional and I like that.

I saw Katy Perry’s outfit as a nod to her very strictly religious upbringing haha, “dress properly in a church” type thing!

Loved the link to the article about Batsheva , thank you!

UrsulaPandress · 31/08/2019 18:55

The bridesmaid dresses are simply awful. Are they meant to be cream?

itswinetime · 31/08/2019 18:57

I thought the bridesmaids were in a really pale green/blue colour

megletthesecond · 31/08/2019 19:16

Beatrices dress is a tad too long IMO. It's summer so even at a wedding I think she could have had a little more leg out. But the green is nice.

Ellie's wedding dress would be nicer with a lower neckline. She looks too covered for August. Even the Doc wore lace sleeves at her wedding.

megletthesecond · 31/08/2019 19:17

Doc as in duchess of cambridge.

mathanxiety · 31/08/2019 19:29

I thought Katy Perry's outfit looked like a frock with a housecoat over it Smile.

The bridesmaids' shoulders were hunched up as if they were freezing, and there appeared to be a stiff wind. It's only summer in a technical sense. But yes, the wedding dress would look lovely in winter too imo.

Beatrice's shiny green diaphanous concoction with the black leather headband looked all wrong. A fitted silk crepe in that colour, with that headband, would have been lovely.

I didn't like Sophia Wellesley's outfit (Mrs James Blunt). Too handkerchief-hemmy, all over the place with fabrics/lace and pattern, and the black shoes and bag were wrong. Maybe she was going for 'summer wedding in the country' with the dress, and added the shoes and bag because York isn't 'the country'.

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/08/2019 19:29

Couldn't let today pass without some sort of Diana tribute, so here's some of her best style moments, according to Tatler.

It is cold up North today and the wind on the east of the pennines can be sharp.

I thought Katy Perry’s outfit looked a bit cheap. Creased and the hem looked snaggy.

Northernlurker · 31/08/2019 19:45

It's not cold in York. Breezy but mild and last Saturday was 30 degrees. Lucky the wedding wasn't then!

mathanxiety · 31/08/2019 19:52

Looked rainy and quite chilly but I am nowhere near there. It's a very nice 23C here..

AppleKatie · 31/08/2019 20:04

I think most of the guests look great.

I really like Eugenies dress and she’s taken the MN advice of appropriate but not upstaging. Fergies is lovely too, but I am Hmm about black at weddings, it suits her though. Bea’s is (another!) fail for me, she needs to play it safe for about 10 years to get on track!

I’m not convinced by the bride or bridesmaids. But hey not my wedding...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/08/2019 20:21

I wonder if Hannah Martin did her make up. Looks like her work.

this video clip is worth a watch ,the wind ! Just as well it was a heavier fabric .

peridito · 31/08/2019 20:43

And I think the bridesmaid's dresses aren't white .Whrn seen against the white of the wedding dress they look pale grey ? more likely to be v pale green as said upthread .

AdaColeman · 31/08/2019 20:46

I felt that the wedding dress didn't work, the pie frill around the neck looked like an afterthought, and the sleeves just didn't fit her, all the wrinkles and folds in what, presumably, should have been straight narrow fitting sleeves.
The fabric didn't drape well, and the veil was clumping and clinging.

The theme of the reception was "Festival" which might explain some of the dress choices of the guests, and maybe Ellie was attempting a fusion of Classic Bridal and Festival for her own look, but didn't quite pull it together.

I liked Cressida's outfit, though a mid green jacket would have been better than the black she wore, and it was nice to see Eugenie in a V neck dress.
