Which dress is better for family wedding?

After posting on here I've received some great advice, so I'm hoping to get some opinions on these two dresses.

I'm a size 18 after having a baby 11 months ago. My shape has completely changed so I'm feeling very lost at the moment. I'm looking for a dress to attend a family wedding.

I've got personal shopper appointments with both John Lewis and Debenhams this weekend. I'm still going even though I quite like these two dresses. I'm hoping to get further advice on what looks right on me.

The first dress is Studio 8 (size 18). It was suggested my bigusbumus so I'd like to say a big thank you if you are reading this! I didn't think I would like it but I love it! My husband says I can't rock magenta though Sad

The second dress makes me feel like a princess. The skirt is swishy. However, I had to order it in a size 20 which dampens it for me slightly. It's a Coast dress. I'm an 18 in every shop but I'm Coast I can't fit into the size 18.

So which dress is better for the family wedding? The magenta Studio 8 wrap dress or swishy Coast dress? (Or neither?!)

I'm getting so close to getting a dress that makes me feel good!!! Haven't felt good in anything for a while.

The Coast dress looks just fantastic on you, it's really stylish looking, don't take any notice of people saying black is unsuitable, definitely wear it and have a great time!

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 22/07/2019 20:56

Definitely the coast one. Don’t even think about the size - it’s a meaningless number just cut the label out xx

EB100 · 22/07/2019 20:57

Coast is lovely on you.

ViserionTheDragon · 22/07/2019 20:57

The black one looks gorgeous on you.

Shuggas · 22/07/2019 20:59

Multichannel?? I put so much nicer! Blush

shiningstar2 · 22/07/2019 21:01

the coast dress suits you best and I don't think it is too black for a wedding. Make sure all of your accessories are pale and you will rock it. Enjoy!!

Ellapaella · 22/07/2019 21:09

@ItsAlrightAlright almost everyone on this thread disagree with you.
So I guess we are all wrong and you are right...
However the OP's dress is not a funeral dress. It's not even all black. It's fine.

CountFosco · 22/07/2019 21:23

Yet another vote for the Coast dress, it is absolutely stunning, if only every dress made us feel like a princess! The purple one has to go back, there is no comparison at all.

peachgreen · 22/07/2019 21:28

Yes definitely the second one. It balances you out so much better. The first makes you look top heavy and broad shouldered which you are not at all! Second one very flattering and glam.

CountFosco · 22/07/2019 21:28

And let's have a think, is the Coast dress suitable for a funeral? The answer would be a resounding 'no' because of that floral skirt, it's clearly a dress for a wedding guest.

Mrsmummy90 · 22/07/2019 21:29

The second is much nicer xx

Veterinari · 22/07/2019 21:39

@ItsAlrightAlright

I would usually agree with you but I also think that all ‘rules’ Should be considered with a dash of common sense and an understanding of their origin.

The reason you shouldn’t wear all-black to a wedding is because it’s funereal. This dress is neither all-black nor funereal, therefore not a problem.

The reason that you shouldn’t wear all white to a wedding is because it’s bridal. This dress is neither all-white nor bridal therefore not a problem.

There are NO rules as far as i’n Aware regarding wearing a mixture of black and white. And it’s nonsensical to mix two ‘rules’ together and create a third with no real rationale to it. Wearing black and white together is no more rude than wearing grey. It’s all about the context.

ThatCurlyGirl · 22/07/2019 21:51

Second dress by miles - your figure looks FAB and the first dress doesn't do you justice.

As regards the 'rules' I really think unless you turn up in a bridal, brides dress or funereal look it doesn't matter.

You'd have to look pretty inappropriate to bother a happy couple and their loved ones on what is supposed to be the happiest days of their life.

At my age (I'm 32) the colour issue wouldn't even cross our minds within my personal and wider friendship group, though I appreciate this isn't always true.

ThatCurlyGirl · 22/07/2019 21:51

*bridal or bridesmaid or funereal that was meant to say

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/07/2019 23:31

Coast one from me too. I love the colour of the other one, but it's a very unflattering cut.

This

Verite1 · 22/07/2019 23:56

I know I am repeating what everyone else has already said, but coast dress is fab and you do not look a size 18!

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/07/2019 00:02

Another vote for Coast here.

IamAporcupine · 23/07/2019 00:06

100% the Coast one!!
(I actually want that dress now)

Mycatisthebest · 23/07/2019 01:54

Coast dress is lovely on you and much more flattering!

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 23/07/2019 02:24

Another enthusiastic vote for the Coast dress. Thumbs down equally enthusiastically for the purple one that to me makes your lovely shape look boxy.

AzraiL · 23/07/2019 03:00

The second one is more flattering.

morpurgo · 23/07/2019 03:48

Coast, Coast, Coast! You look fabulous in it and I love the asymmetric cut at the top too.

justilou1 · 23/07/2019 04:07

Dress sizing is arbitrary. They both look lovely, but I think the Coast one has the edge. It’s a bit more “special”.

Mammalian · 23/07/2019 04:09

100% the Coast one! Much nicer dress, really fancy, and really flattering- you look so slim in it, who cares what actual size it is, nobody sees the label Smile. Coast, coast, coast! And you don't need to bother with the appointment
