Which dress is better for family wedding?

After posting on here I've received some great advice, so I'm hoping to get some opinions on these two dresses.

I'm a size 18 after having a baby 11 months ago. My shape has completely changed so I'm feeling very lost at the moment. I'm looking for a dress to attend a family wedding.

I've got personal shopper appointments with both John Lewis and Debenhams this weekend. I'm still going even though I quite like these two dresses. I'm hoping to get further advice on what looks right on me.

The first dress is Studio 8 (size 18). It was suggested my bigusbumus so I'd like to say a big thank you if you are reading this! I didn't think I would like it but I love it! My husband says I can't rock magenta though Sad

The second dress makes me feel like a princess. The skirt is swishy. However, I had to order it in a size 20 which dampens it for me slightly. It's a Coast dress. I'm an 18 in every shop but I'm Coast I can't fit into the size 18.

So which dress is better for the family wedding? The magenta Studio 8 wrap dress or swishy Coast dress? (Or neither?!)

I'm getting so close to getting a dress that makes me feel good!!! Haven't felt good in anything for a while.

Coast one looks lovely wow you do not look a size 18.

Newschapter · 22/07/2019 16:08

Definitely the second one

Is the skirt pale pink and black? If so you could pull the pink out with matching bag and hair accessory.

Aozora13 · 22/07/2019 16:12

I love the colour of the purple one but think the black and white one is more flattering and a bit more special for a wedding. I totally get the dress size disappointment but honestly no one else knows or cares, the main thing is that it fits and makes you feel good.

silver1977 · 22/07/2019 16:13

The Coast dress definately! I am always a size up in Coast, their sizing is small. You don't look an 18 either mind you!

It is only the top half that is black so fine for a wedding, maybe don't wear black shoes/bag/accessories though, like a PP said pick out the pink in the skirt to bring out some colour. Sorted!

RuthW · 22/07/2019 16:13

I love the black and white one but the purple is nice too. What colour hat/fascinator for you have?

Constance1234 · 22/07/2019 16:14

The Coast one is lovely and you look great in it. The other one is a very heavy colour for a summer wedding. Maybe for a winter one it'd be nice. But I don't understand why wrap dresses are so popular, they remind me of office wear, so to me the purple dress style is quite casual!

3dogs2cats · 22/07/2019 16:14

Another vote for the Coast dress, gorgeous

Personita · 22/07/2019 16:15

And another vote for the Coast one. Love the colour of the purple one but the Coast one is more flattering.

DaisyDaisydoo · 22/07/2019 16:17

The Coast one for SURE! you look amazing

AlbertWinestein · 22/07/2019 16:18

Another vote for the Coast one. Also, the don’t wear black for a wedding is a pretty outdated rule. It’s not Four Weddings and A Funeral!

WoofWoofMooWoof · 22/07/2019 16:19

Coast one from me too. I love the colour of the other one, but it's a very unflattering cut.

Nesssie · 22/07/2019 16:19

Second one by a mile!

LoafofSellotape · 22/07/2019 16:19

You look 2 sizes smaller in the Coast one,it's perfect 😊

EmmaC78 · 22/07/2019 16:21

Another vote for the Coast dress. It really suits you.

luckylavender · 22/07/2019 16:23

I love the purple one, I think it really suits you & is a much better colour for a wedding. You don't look a size 18.

lopdedop · 22/07/2019 16:25

I think the sleeve length on number 1 makes your top half look wider than you are. I can't imagine it would do much for anyone.
I agree with the majority, number two is much more flattering, it looks lovely on you.
Agree with a pp, if the skirt has pink, go with pink accessories.
You'll look fab!

NotTheOriginalGreen · 22/07/2019 16:26

The Coast one! It fits you perfectly and is very slimming.

MissRhubarb · 22/07/2019 16:27

I like them both, but when I saw the black one I went "ooh". The black one looks lovely - really lovely. I'd go for that.

mogloveseggs · 22/07/2019 16:27

The coast one looks gorgeous on you!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 22/07/2019 16:27

I think the purple one looks too big? Maybe just not a great fit?
However I disagree with your DH as I think colour is nice.

You def do not look like an 18/20!!!

I think the Coast one is very swishy, slimming and wedding appropriate.

I would prob still try the personal shoppers if they are free just to see what they come up with!

Tootytata · 22/07/2019 16:28

Wow...thank you all so much for your kind comments Grin

Unfortunately, I am definitely a size 18. I'm 5ft 8 so maybe my height helps hide my wideness!

Looks like most of you love the Coast dress. It is an amazing dress. I love the asymmetric neckline and the fact it covers up the tops of my arms in a stylish way. I'm not normally into princessy things but the swishy skirt is just so romantic!

The Coast dress looks fab on you it really suits your figure.
Don't worry about Coast stuff sizing, with their dresses you always have to go up a size or two.
I love the Coast dress!

Tootytata · 22/07/2019 16:29

Bippertyboo2 - ha ha! So happy to hear you think my ankles are slim Smile at least they'll never get fat!

RavenLG · 22/07/2019 16:29

Th first does nothing for you op. I agree with the PP who said 'Glam Granny'. It looks to big too?

The black one looks loads better, and is perfect for a wedding. Loads of people wear black now, and the cut and style is very wedding-y. Don't get hung up on the size, just focus on how the dress fits and makes you feel rather than the number on the label.

AquarianSquirrel · 22/07/2019 16:29

Number 2 (hehe) thought the colour of the first is lovely, the shape isn't the best. Maybe you could put a bright scarf with dress number 2?
