Which dress is better for family wedding?

After posting on here I've received some great advice, so I'm hoping to get some opinions on these two dresses.

I'm a size 18 after having a baby 11 months ago. My shape has completely changed so I'm feeling very lost at the moment. I'm looking for a dress to attend a family wedding.

I've got personal shopper appointments with both John Lewis and Debenhams this weekend. I'm still going even though I quite like these two dresses. I'm hoping to get further advice on what looks right on me.

The first dress is Studio 8 (size 18). It was suggested my bigusbumus so I'd like to say a big thank you if you are reading this! I didn't think I would like it but I love it! My husband says I can't rock magenta though Sad

The second dress makes me feel like a princess. The skirt is swishy. However, I had to order it in a size 20 which dampens it for me slightly. It's a Coast dress. I'm an 18 in every shop but I'm Coast I can't fit into the size 18.

So which dress is better for the family wedding? The magenta Studio 8 wrap dress or swishy Coast dress? (Or neither?!)

I'm getting so close to getting a dress that makes me feel good!!! Haven't felt good in anything for a while.

LOVE the Coast dress and black shoes will look good with it. Sorry to say 1st dress doesn't do you (or anyone) any favours. Have fun looking all delicious for the wedding!

Echobelly · 22/07/2019 18:20

Slight prefer the B&W one, it seems to transmit a bit more confidence and poise somehow - think it's nonsense to say don't wear black to a wedding, and besides it's not black all over. Purple one is nice too, but B&W one has an edge

We were at DS’ wedding on Saturday and one of the guests wore a black maxi dress! Nobody batted an eyelid!

maddy68 · 22/07/2019 18:29

Coast one. The first doesn't flatter you (and looks a bit frumpy ) you look gorgeous in the coast one. Someone said no black to a wedding. If it was all black I would agree but I would say that's wedding perfect

Tootytata · 22/07/2019 19:25

Thanks everyone! I might take the magenta dress back then. I actually quite like it but maybe it does look a bit frumpy. Definitely keeping the Coast dress...I'm gonna wear it everywhere! Ha ha! Grin

Both are nice but the second one (black one) is beautiful and really suits you.

StCharlotte · 22/07/2019 19:34

The black sandals are perfect.

TixieLix · 22/07/2019 19:45

The sandals in black will be fine OP. There's not a huge amount of foot covering so they won't be overpowering. You're going to look fab!

Persea · 22/07/2019 19:49

Definitely the Coast - you look fab in it!

OverpricedFloorCushion · 22/07/2019 19:52

Oh I fell in love with that Coast dress but couldn't afford it when I needed it for a friend's wedding.

It looks beautiful on you, and the purple one is no-where near as flattering.

If you're worried about black just wear lighter accessories.

Also, you dont look any bigger than me in the second pic and I'm a 16 in Coast.

rookiemere · 22/07/2019 19:56

Another vote for the Coast one. Are you sure it's a size 20 - you look the same size as me and I'm a size 14.

PetrichorRain · 22/07/2019 19:56

I think they both look good but I much prefer the Coast one. You have lovely slender ankles, can you make a feature of them if you decide on another dress when you go shopping?

MillieMollieMandi · 22/07/2019 19:58

The first one looks a bit like a dressing gown to me. You look wonderful in the Coast dress.

twistyturnycurlywhirly · 22/07/2019 20:05

Second one. Black is fine for a wedding nowadays. It's outdated to say you can't wear it.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 22/07/2019 20:07

Yep, you MUST wear the Coast one Grin It looks fabulous on you ! And size is but a number, I love the cut of Coast but it doesnt love my hips so I always have to go up at least one size!

luckyrabbits · 22/07/2019 20:07

Another vote for the coast dress, you look fantastic!

BenWillbondsPants · 22/07/2019 20:19

The Coast one is lovely on you. The first one is a no from me I'm afraid, v frumpy and you are not!

AddNameHere · 22/07/2019 20:32

Purple - no
Coast one - yes yes yes

Ellapaella · 22/07/2019 20:32

Coast one is lovely and you absolutely can wear black to a wedding.

kenandbarbie · 22/07/2019 20:39

The coast one is lovely and the shoes are perfect. I only wouldn't wear all black to a wedding, black with other colours is fine. A black hat or fascination would work with the shoes as well if you want to wear one.

Terrysyogurt · 22/07/2019 20:43

2 by a country mile!!

Dec2019mumtobe · 22/07/2019 20:46

I much prefer the second dress. I think it's lovely for a wedding. Especially if you do lighter or coloured accessories with it?

Dec2019mumtobe · 22/07/2019 20:47

I wouldn't worry about sizing either. I can be different sizes in different dresses from the same shop, never mind other shops.

It looks like it fits well and as PP said, you don't look an 18/20

ItsAlrightAlright · 22/07/2019 20:51

you absolutely can wear black to a wedding.

No, you really can’t. In this country, black is associated with funerals and mourning. There are two colours that should not be worn to a wedding, black and white. It is rude to wear either of them.

Shuggas · 22/07/2019 20:54

Coast dress definitely. Looks so multichannel nicer and you can add colour it's beautiful!
