Oh buffy, I'm so sorry you're having such a rubbish day. I know it's little consolation at the time, but at some point you will look back at this week and realise that you are Wonderwoman for having got through it all.

No SOTD yet as I'm rushing to pack up our old baby kit for a pregnant friend who is popping round to pick things up :-)

tracy, I do find that things smell remarkably different on me at different times -- not sure if it's to do with my cycle and hormones, or variations in the weather. I would now never give up on a fragrance (well, at least not a reasonably well-reviewed one) before trying it 3-4 times in different conditions.

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 11:30

Thank you.
Mums coming home today so the mammoth wait for the discharge papers

MotherOfDragonite · 19/06/2019 15:22

calm, thank you sooooooo much for the samples! I hadn't actually seen your message above at all! And then the postman arrived with a mysterious package... made my day!

I LOVE MPG. I wasn't going to get it as it seemed like a risky blind buy, but I absolutely love it.

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 16:43

Well, it's a comfort food tea of chip cob (!) And 4160 amberama.

I really love this scent. It's like an ambery, powdery hug with a hint of raspberries :)

I'm planning on a hot bath and early night.

Hope everyone has had a good day x

Calmasasleepycat · 19/06/2019 17:18

Mother, I’m so pleased you like it! You sounded like you needed cheering up 😊

My scent of the day was Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. It is such a quiet, unassuming kind of scent, but drifted around all day being beautiful.

MrsMoggs · 19/06/2019 19:17

Flowers for Buffy.

That's sound advice Mother. Did we ever do Perfumista 'rules'? If not, should we? Eg. no blind buying a full bottle unless it gets a 4 or 5 LT/TS review, you've checked the notes on Fragrantica, and it's a once in a lifetime mega-bargain Grin

MrsMoggs · 19/06/2019 19:21

V busy at work and home - forgot to wear any perfume today Shock. Not sure what to wear tonight to make up for this uncharacteristic lapse?

Calmasasleepycat · 19/06/2019 20:33

MrsMoggs, what, no perfume all day,😱! I think you need something very oomphy indeed, perhaps Theo Fennell Scent or a Tauer or one of your delightful oakmossy vintages?

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 20:40

Time to bathe yourself in something with oomph mrsm

I'm in library of fragrance amber again.

KaliforniaDreamz · 19/06/2019 20:58

SOTD is Tuscan leather (PP version) and it has triggered a migraine WAAAAH. ok just a headache but still....
hope all ok x

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/06/2019 21:14

I wore AT Orange Star for most of the day - it's a definite no from me. I have trouble with lots of citrus scents at the best of times but this is oddly nasty, synthetic and overpowering. I would forgive Andy Tauer most things but this...ewww.

Covered it up with Creamy Vanilla Crumble Grin

I ended up buying Guerlain Homme EDP for ds in a slight last-minute panic. It's lovely. I may well be borrowing it. I worried that it might be a bit too 'grown up' for a teenager but it's great. Starts off with a brisk minty topnote, drying into a fresh woody floral with lime. Nothing harsh or 'aftershavey' about it at all, fabulous for warmer weather if it ever comes and highly recommended.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/06/2019 21:21

SOTD BF Close to my Heart.

Lots and buffy, I will get your packages in the post in the next couple of days, promise. Sorry, I am a bit disorganised and rarely get to the post office in good time...

Love the rules, MrsM, although I am a terrible sucker for a random blind buy Blush

Iambuffy · 19/06/2019 21:37

No worries maud

Lordy, I'm tired!

MrsMoggs · 19/06/2019 22:16

Thanks for the oomphy suggestions - bang-on. Daren't wear Scent without a 24 hour margin afterwards Grin, so reached instead for Shazam! to wake me up (it's such a good energiser).

So rules-wise we so far have:

  • never give up on a fragrance before trying it 3-4 times in different conditions;
  • no blind-buying full bottles;

What else..?

CountFosco · 19/06/2019 22:45

no blind-buying full bottles

But if I'd followed that rule I'd not have bought todays SotD (MG Lemon) and then where would I be. I need the bitter lemon after Scotland's performance tonight Sad

MrsMoggs · 19/06/2019 22:54

OK Count - ditto Yatagan. Will reinstate unless they are well reviewed and outrageous bargains

Anyone else got successful FB BBs to report? Guess it's the hit/miss ratio to keep an eye on here!

MotherOfDragonite · 20/06/2019 06:55

Oh calm, I really really did! Thank you! SOTD is Midnight in the Palace Garden again (I am smitten).

I really think the exceptions to the rule are pretty crucial parts of being a perfumista. I don't think I'm the only one giving in to temptation here!

I have made a number of blind buys, sometimes of 9ml 4160s, but my most expensive blind buy has got to be India by Marina Barcenilla and it's absolutely brilliant (as hoped). A 30ml bottle of Freeway was also insane but turned out to be one of my summer favourites. (for balance, I also BB Habanita, which was sooooo not me, and three other TK Maxx cheapies which didn't suit me). All of these did meet "the exceptions to the rules" though!

MotherOfDragonite · 20/06/2019 06:56

Oh, and Centrepiece -- again, on recommendation from you lovely vipers, and one of my favourites.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 20/06/2019 07:02

I have a few successful BBs! Maybe I'm just not that discerning Grin

Olfactive Studio Autoportrait
All the Mary Greenwells except Lemon (luckily count could take that off my hands!)
L'artisan Parfumeur Premier Figuier
Paul Smith Rose
Miller Harris Terre d'iris
4160 White Queen

But in general I do agree with the 'no BB' rule...it's just I get so tempted by a bargain. None of them were full price so that's something, right?

SOTD is Phaedon Sable et Soleil. I feel as if I've just ambled back from a day on a tropical beach. Sadly the reality is that I'm on the 6.54 to Blackfriars...

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 20/06/2019 07:03

Oh yes of course, how could I forget Habanita! For me, one of my most successful BBs!

Iambuffy · 20/06/2019 07:15

Oh, so many BBs....!
Some wonderful...some...less so :)
MG fire and lemon (plum wasnt for me) were brilliant BBs.
A few Avons, like lbd weekend are lovely.
Library of fragrance amber has been a big hit for me.
Quite a few 4160 9mls have not worked for me, sadly...I should learn!

teta · 20/06/2019 08:50

I have several successful blind buys.
Silences.
Montale Jasmine full, roses musk & crystal flowers .
Friedemodin rosee de nuit & vertine.
Acca kappa Calycanthus
Drole de rose.
Penhaligons Violetta & gardenia
Lots of L Artisan parfumeur's.
Wearing Fleur du matin again.
Hope you have a good day today @Iambuffy and your Mum is feeling better.

Iambuffy · 20/06/2019 08:55

I'll be going to check on her later thanks teta
She phoned me last night and sounded ok.
Sotd pp by the fireplace

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/06/2019 16:41

Buffy hope your DM is on the mend & sorry to hear about your Auntie.
Maud hope your DS had a lovely birthday.

SOTD is FS Chypre Sublime. Gorgeous & it makes me feel all grown up which is quite funny considering I'm in my 40s!

When you say a 'blind buy' do you mean a perfume that you have never smelt or one that you have just squirted a tester then bought the full size?
I've not done the former but plenty of the latter.
