Unusual but lovely dress for October registry wedding

I'm looking for ideas of what to wear for my wedding in October. We are going to be doing registry office then pub/restaurant for the evening after so nothing crazy formal. Will be around 30 people present.

I'm not fussed about wearing white, am actually less inclined to as am very pale so can wash me out a bit! I have a lot of tattoos so needs to work with that. The problem is that people keep suggesting 50s style/Lindy Bop/rockabilly type dresses to me because of this and actually I just do not like that style at all!

I'm a size 8-10, early thirties, 5 foot 6, dark hair.

Any idea would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I didn't see all your etsy links! Last one is gorgeous...

Cyberworrier · 17/07/2019 17:31

Your wedding sounds very similar to mine! I was quite keen to find a nice vintage dress (not 50s rockabilly, was more thinking 20s or 30s evening dress or a glamorous 70s frock) and trawled round vintage shops in London. Shop assistants were so helpful finding things for me to try which I wouldn’t have considered. Ended up with a 40s evening dress for £180 which made me feel as Vivienne-Leigh-esque as I will ever feel! Just a thought as I know you’ve said not 50s but there are other decades out there too!

The outnet sometimes have very nice Preen or Halston heritage dresses that might work?

BendyBusBuggy · 17/07/2019 18:14

Oh didn't see you already have one. It's lovely!

So have retried dress and realise I hate it! Luckily have been able to return.

Am toying with just getting a bloody short one and wearing with docs tbh. I reckon I might look better in it!

The red dress makes me look weirdly swamped and dumpy at the same time! And I know that my figure has definitely looked better!

Suggestions would be v much appreciated!

Part of me thinking of just going with something like this an be done with it. I could get some kind of interesting jacket/cape thing to go over a plain one.

I don’t think that red dress was the one op. What about a 1930s evening dress- sorry haven’t ready all the thread I just had a quick google for you.

www.chotronette.com/shop/ Chotronette dresses are amazing.

Enjoy a beautiful dress for your big day! I've found a few on Gumtree etc, but that's about it.

NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine · 06/08/2019 21:50

Yeah, in that 2nd pic the red one isn't doing you many favours. Is the Vampire's Wife dress off the table?

You've got time, don't panic. You don't want to feel you've got one to 'be done with it'!

MerryDeath · 06/08/2019 21:55

i like anthropologie for dresses but some of these suggestions are something else 🤤

bobloblawlawblog · 07/08/2019 13:10

Merry death I hear ya!

The red dress is sent back so that's one part done!

I adore vampires wife and actually prefer this one but it's more than my actual wedding is costing which is batshit!

Am currently considering:

For reference have attached a recent photo of me in a dress that actually fits!

Get the vampires wife one made for
You. Be half the price and it will fit like a glove.

bobloblawlawblog · 07/08/2019 13:18

Widow where would I get one made that looks as good though?

I know you said you were looking for a dress. But have you thought of a jumpsuit. That would look awesome with your tattoos and you would definitely be able to carry it off with your figure.

threadneedle · 07/08/2019 13:57

That Black Vampires wife Dress would be very straightforward for a good dressmaker. Go to Liberty and look at the fabrics, you could really splurge as the dress would only take a few meters. I'm sure they have dressmakers they'd recommend. There are lots of beautiful fabric shops in Soho just behind Liberty as well.

bobloblawlawblog · 07/08/2019 14:00

Jumpsuit suggestions welcome!

Another thought is to wear the black and white dress in the pic from a few weeks ago and then get swank accessories. Perhaps some kind of fancy cape/jacket

Think the white jumpsuit a bit too slick/grown up for me tbh!
