....ok, off the back of seeing it recommended here for plumped-up, dewy morning skin, I am volunteering myself as Guinea Pig...

I'll report back.

Vaseline forms a barrier over your skin and your skin can't breathe, it also clogs pores. Expect spots!

Rooftree · 02/06/2019 20:41

And a greasy pillow Grin

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/06/2019 20:42

Ewww sorry from one smootherier to another I love diprobase moisturiser on my skin- hell no to Vaseline

twirlypoo · 02/06/2019 20:46

Do you mean sudocrem? I’ve seen that recommended but never Vaseline, for all the reasons mentioned above!

dudsville · 02/06/2019 20:47

I'll be curious to see what you report back with OP! I've used EA8hr cream (called a cream but like vaseline) on long haul flights. I also regularly put Egyptian Magic on my face- it's more quickly absorbed on my skin compared to EA8hr.

EatenByDinosaurs · 02/06/2019 20:55

I actually do this, and I've been doing it for a while now. My skin has never been better and I never get spots anymore, my skin is completely clear and has been for months.

Vaseline is one of the least comodogenic substances out there, it will not cause spots, plus Vaseline molecules are too big to penetrate the skin, so there is no way for it to clog your skin.

That said, if you put it on a grimy face it will trap the grime in and the grime will cause spots, so apply it after you've done your skincare.

And change your pillowcase everyday, I do this anyway though. And prepared to be laughed at for the slug like appearance Grin

More about it from people who know more about skincare than me!

Aquamarine1029 · 02/06/2019 21:04

I've been using Vaseline on my face, especially around my eyes and mouth, since I was a teen. I'm 46 and my skin is amazing. I'm honestly not meaning to boast, but I don't have any wrinkles or crows feet. Yet, anyway! I know the day will come. I have never had any issues with spots, either. I wouldn't be without it. My daughter is nearly 20, and she has also been using it on her face since she was 12 or 13. Never any problems with spots.

missfliss · 02/06/2019 21:06

it was your posts EatenByDinosaurs that inspired me.

I've hot cloth cleansed, used clairins blue lotus oil, and a very thin layer of vaseline around my eye sockets and over my cheeks, avoiding the t zone

lets see....

fedup21 · 02/06/2019 21:07

Do you just use a thin layer, @Aquamarine1029? And just wash off in the morning? Do you use it every night or just occasionally?

Does it make your pillowcase

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 21:08

I have very dry skin and do this now and again, also do my hands and feet before bed, makes a massive difference

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 21:09

And it's all absorbed by the morning, doesn't need washing off - but my skin is very dry

EatenByDinosaurs · 02/06/2019 21:14

Glad to be of experimental service missfliss Grin

Yinyen · 02/06/2019 21:16

@abbiecloud I use bepanthen (nappy cream) for my dry hands and it works wonders!

Aquamarine1029 · 02/06/2019 21:29

@fedup21

Just a thin layer is all you need. I focus mostly around my eye area and mouth, with a bit on my forehead and cheeks. I use it literally every single night (can't recall ever not), and wash my face in the morning. By the time morning comes along, the Vaseline is mostly gone/absorbed/whatever it does. I have never had a problem with greasy pillow cases. You would really have to slather it on for that to be a problem.

Fucksandflowers · 02/06/2019 22:22

My mum used to always take her make up off with it and has very youthful skin for her age.

Environmental horrors aside, I can’t stand the smell of it, no one else seems to notice it?!
🤢
It’s so bad, used to make me want to be sick as a child

Thallo · 02/06/2019 22:25

I've never found Vaseline to be much good. It creates a barrier but it doesn't sink in and moisturise. I prefer something like Weleda's Skin Food or Origin's Drink Up Overnight mask.

Starlive23 · 02/06/2019 22:27

Oooh I'm watching with interest OP, make sure you report back!

MollyHuaCha · 02/06/2019 22:39

Maybe you can give us a before and after pic (you could block out your eyes for privacy)?

megletthesecond · 02/06/2019 22:43

I used to do this regularly but now it's only when I run out of my usual moisturiser.

Never gives me spots either. For me it's far better than a cheap moisturiser.

EatenByDinosaurs · 02/06/2019 23:17

I've found it works best when I put it on after my night time skincare routine, so over the top of my moisturiser.

Yes Fucks I notice the smell and dislike it too, I tolerate it for the astonishing effect its had though.

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 23:53

I do it sometimes especially in winter. Blue Nivea is better imo though.

MollyHuaCha · 02/06/2019 23:58

We're expecting something like this OP.

Vaseline on face before bed...

Chillichutney1 · 03/06/2019 01:06

I did this for years, it’s never caused spots in fact Vaseline seemed to calm down spots and ‘kill’ them overnight. I used to use wet hands and a tiny bit of Vaseline rubbed into hands and then on face. Never had greasy pillow or face and my skin was always amazing then. Off to find a pot of Vaseline now...!

Everley · 03/06/2019 01:08

I remember one of my friends doing this when we were teenagers and she had amazing skin, she practically glowed. I hate the feeling of sticky skin so not one for me but am interested to see what you think OP!
