....ok, off the back of seeing it recommended here for plumped-up, dewy morning skin, I am volunteering myself as Guinea Pig...

I'll report back.

I thought Marilyn Monroe put baby oil on her face! I'm obviously mistaken. Some people just have hairy faces though.

Skyejuly · 04/06/2019 09:55

It does not give you a hairy face lol

BusterGonad · 04/06/2019 10:02

How could it? And if it did loads of people would use it to promote hair growth and Vaseline would sell it as a hair growth product!

FrankiesKnuckle · 04/06/2019 10:03

I put bio oil on my face at night.

greenwaterbottle · 04/06/2019 16:21

Can I use Egyptian magic instead

OnlineAlienator · 04/06/2019 16:23

Turning 30 gave me a hairy face - on my chin where i dont put the vaseline Envy

Marchitectmummy · 04/06/2019 19:05

My uncle swore by putting Vaseline on his face and to be fare he did have perfect skin into his 80s. He swore it made women's faces hairy though. Not sure why or whether it was true but my auntie certainly didn't try it

fedup21 · 04/06/2019 19:06

Why on earth would it make you hairy?!

If that were so, wouldn’t bald men across the globe be slathering it on their scalp in the hope of it causing flowing tresses??

Mamamere · 04/06/2019 19:09

Oil fanatic here... works WONDERS...

mintbiscuit · 04/06/2019 19:20

OP for pigmentation you need a vitamin c serum. Skinceuticals one is the dogs bollocks but ££££! Wearing spf 50 every day also does a lot for prevention. Tretinoin fades mine too (spf is a must when using that)

Vaseline is the best! But you must hydrate and moisturise your skin before applying to get the best out of it.

To some of PPs - Vaseline does not cause spots nor is it absorbed into skin. Molecules are too big to be absorbed. Hence why it’s an occlusive.

Not for the oily faced lovelies though

Livpool · 04/06/2019 20:08

I am going to give this a go - my son is very dry.

One thing I have tried is Nivea (the blue rub) about an hour after night time moisturiser. I find that makes my skin nice and soft so Vaseline will be my next thing to try

Tingface · 04/06/2019 23:28

Right, I’ve just put some Vaseline on over my moisturiser.
If I don’t look 17 in the morning I’m coming after you all Grin

Quintella · 04/06/2019 23:31

Every couple of months on Mumsnet there's a craze for some product that costs £1.99 that's definitely going to give you a foetus like complexion.

JaniceBattersby · 04/06/2019 23:36

I have very reactive skin and am allergic to every single commercial moisturiser I’ve ever tried.

I used diprobase ointment (not cream. Allergic to that) which is like Vaseline but thinner so it spreads easier and is a bit thinner. It also leaves no marks on my pillows. It’s wonderful stuff. I now have no red patches or eczema on my face and don’t get spots. I wish I’d tried it 20 years ago.

Marchitectmummy · 05/06/2019 07:38

@fedup21 might not be as mad as it sounds. Hair growth is hormonal, in women it can be from an increase in androgens, which includes testosterone. Chemicals entering the body can trick the body into changjng hormonal production and it doesn't take a big change in hormone levels for hair to increase. Lotions applied do enter the bloodstream.

For those comparing female hair growth to loss in males it is not the same process. While air loss is also hormonal it is not an increase as such, it is a conversion of testosterone to DHT. This conversion then damages hair follicles and hair falls out. To stimulate the regrowth adding or converting hormones will not do it.

Whether Vaseline does it, I don't know, but there is often truth in madness.

All face creams would have to be medically approved surely?

Tingface · 05/06/2019 07:58

Well, I’m no foetus, but I usually have much more prominent crow’s eyes than this in the morning, so I’m cautiously impressed! Will keep going.

Next stop: £1 dark shadow remedies??!! Grin

Tingface · 05/06/2019 08:00

Crow’s feet even!

GingerRogers84 · 05/06/2019 08:26

Last night I put on my eye serum and hyaluronic face serum then patted the tiniest amount of Vaseline around the area where my cheekbones meet the under eye area. (Crows feet zone)
I'm very impressed with the results this morning. I'm mid 30's and have the beginnings of crows feet but this morning they were very faint! I'm presuming this is because the Vaseline seals in the eye serum and creates maximum skin hydration.
I think I'll keep using this a couple of times a week to keep things hydrated! Thanks OP! Smile

BlindAssassin1 · 05/06/2019 09:38

I did this last night, after my usual routine, and put it around the eye socket and a bit on the forehead and across my cheeks. This morning my under eye area is definitely smoother, and altogether my skin is softer. Very pleased as I was about to drop a cash bomb on some eye cream.

I've already tried something with ret A in from L'oreal maybe and all it did was make my eyes sting. So this is great!

For those saying it promotes hair growth, how? What is it in vaseline that does that? Because I really can't see what. I think its put in hair care products but for its moisturizing properties - or sealing moisture in perhaps - not for hair growth. Is it thought to be a hormone disrupter or something?

LoafofSellotape · 05/06/2019 09:51

Dark shadows- nothing cream wise will get rid of them BUT I have found such a good concealer that's not really a concealer but a brightener. It's like Touche Éclat but better. It's Revlon Eye Primer and you apply it and it just brightens your eye area up. I can't believe it's not more popular because imo it's magic. It's just one colour which adapts to your own tone. No good for anyone who has very dark skin.

LoafofSellotape · 05/06/2019 09:54

I keep one on my bag because you can apply it throughout the day too if you feel you look like you need perking up,goes over make up fine and you can wear it without make up too.

edgeofheaven · 05/06/2019 10:17

I was convinced to try this. I used Aquaphor (don't have Vaseline in the house) after my hyaluronic serum and normal moisturiser. WOW my skin has felt incredible today, usually I suffer from dryness on my cheeks but they are feeling so hydrated. This is a game changer! I'll be doing this every other night now.

EleanorOalike · 05/06/2019 10:38

Ok. So I’ve jumped on this bandwagon but only tried it on my eyes last night. I am quite impressed my eye area looks rested, less dark and plumper in the outer corners where I had some very fine lines emerging (none visible now). Eyes also haven’t suddenly sprouted hair Grin

Certainly better than any eye cream I currently use and I spend ALOT on skin care.

Might try it on my forehead tonight as it’s got some dehydration lines.
