I never wear dresses, I feel I’m too short 5’2 and at a size 16 I look like a ship in full sail.

DD has convinced me that this looks nice and will be lovely for summer evenings and holidays.

It feel very comfortable but i feel like a lumpen blob. I know I need to lose weight but I also need to look nice while I’m at least trying.

Completely honest opinions please as I’ve kept the ticket on it so far just in case it needs to go back.

Thanks

Lovely!!

Tolleshunt · 22/04/2019 20:03

I would have thought you were a couple of sizes smaller from the photo. Keep it, it's lovely.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/04/2019 20:03

You appear to have a flat tummy and big boobs. There is definitely a better dress than that for you.

I agree a wrap dress might suit better. Not necessarily retro like this but this kind of shape.

Give it a boost with some bright accessories and it'll look great! I would suggest hot pink, lime green or, even better, turquoise.

saj90 · 22/04/2019 20:06

I think it's fine! Add a belt to break it up a little if that makes sense? Just a thin black belt maybe?

witherwings · 22/04/2019 20:08

The pattern is not my choice but the style really suits you, really flattering and shows you have a lovely figure and very much in proportion. Definitely wear it!

Dowdy13 · 22/04/2019 20:09

Thanks all, it is polyester, I’m going to return it, I don’t love it enough to keep it even though it’s only £30. I can’t help but feel an old lady in it!

Wrap dresses tend to cling around my tummy, I’ll keep looking around though, hopefully I’ll find something that I can equally wear out for a night out and on holiday.

I love it. And I’m 5 foot and a size 22 and always in dresses so I’m happy to look like a “full sail”. I’f you don’t like it take it back? As others have said wrap dresses can be flattering although I find them frumpy.

Corcra · 22/04/2019 20:10

I feel like you would get something much more flattering.
I don’t like it on the model at all, it does nothing for her.
You have a great figure. Maybe it’s nicer IRL.

MistakenHoliday · 22/04/2019 20:10

I think it looks lovely!

XingMing · 22/04/2019 20:12

I wouldn't choose it, but I'm only 62.

Winifredgoose · 22/04/2019 20:14

I think it really suits your shape and is flattering. It looks comfy too.

Three from M&S, all under £40, which might work? By the way, I like the midi length on you.

I don’t think your dress looks good on the model. The cut of the sleeves in particular isn’t good. You will find something much nicer.

Dowdy13 · 22/04/2019 20:18

Okay, well this is me in another dress that I bought but now won’t wear as I feel huge in it. So you can see my ‘real’ figure. This doesn’t suit me so I thought the tummy skimming pleats might have been better.

I just can’t see how a dress will work with a tummy like this. It’s why I always wear jeggings and a longer top.

I think you could find something much nicer and brighter. Why don’t you order lots of different styles online and try them all on? I’ve done the same today from next as they do cheap and cheerful but also the brands so there is a good selection. I do think some of the midi dresses that are currently in style are quite unflattering.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/04/2019 20:20

Your instincts are right, OP, it is a bit old ladyish. I think it's the pleats. However you look like you have a cracking figure. Would you wear a jumpsuit? This has a similar print. direct.asda.com/george/women/jumpsuits-playsuits/animal-print-cold-shoulder-jumpsuit/GEM703015,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C12

Soontobe60 · 22/04/2019 20:20

I wouldn't choose it. I'm your height and size but over a decade older, and I think it looks frumpy.
For my arms I prefer a sleeve that isn't on a diagonal which will only make my arms look fatter, also a v neck or square neck. I thinks they've just made a big dress and put elastic in the waist rather than adding darts at the bust.

Arriettyborrower · 22/04/2019 20:24

I really like it on you and think it’s flattering - but haven’t seen you in anything else to compare 🤔

I would try it with a belt, I’m also 5.2 and have a short torso so find that style of dress really tricky to pull off but I think it works on you.

I definitely think you should try dresses or flarey midi skirts and cami tops tucked in with a belt? I think you could absolutely pull off a cotton midi dress, I work with a lady who is a true apple shape and always wears tight fitting jersey tube skirts and tops and looks incredible.

I’ll have a look for you..

ScarlettDarling · 22/04/2019 20:26

Op I think that second dress is much nicer!

OldGrinch · 22/04/2019 20:27

Both dresses are too frumpy for you OP, have you had a look at the dresses on the Joe Browns website? Lots of lovely stylish yet easy to wear stuff on there.

Arriettyborrower · 22/04/2019 20:27

Sorry am rubbish at links - thinks this would look lovely on you.

EatingElephantsIsCF · 22/04/2019 20:28

I like it!

PineapplePatty · 22/04/2019 20:29

I think it looks okay but you could do better.
