Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

Wishing MiniFloof a speedy recovery. I bet you feel knackered Floofy, I always did the times MiniTracy was in hospital. It's like you hold it all together & when they're ok the wave of emotions just come spilling out, a bit like being run over by an elephant driving a tractor.

Mother it's quite a disappointment when you blind try a new fragrance thinking you would like it from the description but then it smells pants on you, but very exciting when it's the other way round.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/04/2019 22:15

Hope you’re okay, floofy, and floof junior is too.

SOTD Mitsouko - it may be April but it feels like November. I am a big POAL fan, and also have full bottles of Lipstick Rose and Hiver. I wish I could easily sample more!

MrsMoggs · 12/04/2019 22:47

Having started the day in Amouage I'm slumming it now in Poundland's Basil (actually 50p as it came in a set with Pear). This is staying in my handbag.

MrsMoggs · 12/04/2019 22:48

Yes, and very best wishes for a speedy recovery to Floof and junior Floof.

MrsMoggs · 12/04/2019 22:49

I wondered about SM Count! Now, how about the Priest?

Calmasasleepycat · 12/04/2019 23:04

Floofy, best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mini and you! I always bring a pen to write on strips as I would never be able to sort out which was which otherwise. I also find separate places to store the strips/mouillettes when I bring them home so they don’t rub on each other, eg one in each coat pocket, and scattered in different places in my handbag and shopping bag. They last for two three days, and some even longer and give me a lot of pleasure. 😀. I line them up along the back of the sofa!

I love POAL and also Kurkdjian’s Oud Satin Mood, both beautifully pungent rose fragrances.

MrsMoggs you reminded me to try Amouage Love Tuberose (thank you for the sample!). I find it a very wearable, blowsy tuberose. The swoony aspect of the tuberose is tempered by the other florals. The little sample is lasting for several days.

teta I like the sound of that Aldi hazelnut chocolate - will definitely have to try some🍫!

MrsMoggs · 12/04/2019 23:11

Blimey Calm - I'd completely forgotten I'd passed one straight on to you. Glad I gave it a chance this time...

MotherOfDragonite · 13/04/2019 11:31

SOTD is Sideris by Maria Candida Gentile. I really really want a full bottle! Very quirky and beautiful on me in a way that balances between medicinal and alluring.

Off to the post office to pick up, um, some stuff Blush.

teta · 13/04/2019 12:38

I love many Malle perfumes. Namely Une Rose, Lipstick Rose, Lys Mediterranee and Outrageous. Which really isn’t one bit outrageous. I also really adore La Fille de Berlin and Tobacco Rose. In fact my obsession with Rose perfumes led me to this thread and Fragrantica.
Having said all that I think I’m in the mood for a Rose today. So it will be a spray of Tobacco Rose when I get out of my dressing gown.
Mother I love the way you’ve gone from 0-90 in your perfume obsession in a very short time.
Floofy I hope that both you and your poorly mini floof had a good night sleep and are feeling much better.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/04/2019 12:44

SOTD is Memoirs of a Trespasser.

I ordered samples of La Fille de Berlin, Byredo La Tulipe and Bibliotheque, and Heeley Coccobello last night

Sotd AT LADDM
So beautiful.
I blame blah for introducing me to AT in our advent sniff :)
I fancy buying some perfume.
I musnt!

1frenchfoodie · 13/04/2019 13:38

Yum, latest samples are hit after hit.

DS&Durga Bowmakers - dry wood and leather, manages to be austere but with warmth. I see a full bottle in my future.
Stora Skuggan, Silphium - love this, fresh, green and spicy, definate incensce notes but without getting churchy. Addictive for me - I’ll be wearing where I have opportunities to sniff myself compulsively
Monocle 3 Sugi - fresh, bright juniper, drying down to a sweet, warm wood. Wears off really quickly, sadly.
Creed vetiver geranium - classic, clean, fresh fragrance. Drys a little soapy but in a good, wholesome way.
DS&Durga Coriander - green, clean. Wont be buying more but I did enjoy the experience.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/04/2019 14:09

frenchfoodie have you tried DS & Durga Debaser? It's a gorgeous fresh green fig, quite at odds with its name but lovely nonetheless and well worth a try.

MotherOfDragonite · 13/04/2019 15:51

Ha ha, teta, I know -- I've really got the bug. I have a list about as long as my arm of things I'd like full bottles of...

When I get interested in something I do tend to get really interested, and this appeals to me on so many levels and seems to really satisfy a need I didn't know I had -- so many of my memories are olfactory and as well as enjoying thinking about these, the 'missing link' has been to find scents that I love and that smell good on me. Two years ago I got really passionate about family history and I did loooooads of that (and no regrets). The children do seem to like me smelling nice, though.

My post was last week's half-price scent from 4160, the Amberama. It smells luscious but I am still enjoying Sideris too much to contemplate anything else.

MotherOfDragonite · 13/04/2019 15:52

foodie, those sound incredible. You make me want to try all of them!

floofy, I hope you and the mini are doing well and relaxing and recovering.

MrsMoggs · 13/04/2019 16:09

I could go with that Kali. Now Claire? Perhaps something austere and Scandi she has picked up in duty free?

Ha! Mother - you've got me back. I've just had a diverting rummage through my 4160 9mls and I don't have a bottle of MNND. I do have a sample... It starts with (a fleeting) jammy-rose and berries, but soon becomes a rather nice powder on warm skin and moss (and a much softer moss than, say, Indoors/Outdoors etc). There is a slight buzz of effervescent gentle incense in the mix too, which is probably the clincher for me. Very good for a chilly English spring is soft cosy knitwear.

So you've nudged me into sniffing the other 4160Ts featuring rose for comparison purposes. MNND is warmer and fuzzier than the beautifully poised Rosa Ribes (I think I am only just appreciating quite how wonderful RR is - absolutely one of their finest). The also fabulous Who Knew? has a more sustained version of the MNND opening rose/strawberry accord and is also clearer and marginally cooler, until the green tea note fades, and a beautiful warm balsamy base starts to be revealed..

MNND probably has most in common with Killer Rose which shares a powdery heart and warmth.

It's miles away from Red Roses and Raw Silk with it's big apricot note ((and a touch of dirty patchouli). Now I think about it, this is a less sweet relative of TBLF?). MNND is also miles away from Lady Rose Lion, which is a sharp then soapy herbal chypre.

Right, so comparisons made, I've established I want 9ml of MNND (and 100ml of Rosa Ribes...Smile). And I need to try Red Queen very badly indeed even if I can't afford a FB right away

MrsMoggs · 13/04/2019 16:20

Should have made clear that Rosa Ribes and MNND share blackcurrant, as well as rose notes, and that Rosa Ribes is a HUGE blackcurrant chypre.

MotherOfDragonite · 13/04/2019 16:28

Luckily I hate blackcurrant. As I really need to stop buying things, even if they are half price!!

What a fabulous set of sniffing notes, though. I'm obviously going to have to try some more.

FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic · 13/04/2019 17:58

Wait...Poundland perfume? How do I not know about this?! HmmGrin

I'm waiting (very impatiently!) for Sleep Knot or Babylon Sunset to be 4160s half price of the week...

Thank you for all MiniFloof good wishes, I think we have had a turn for the better this weekend (fingers crossed!) May is going to be a long haul of recovery though. In fact I fancy a trip to Aldi is needed, teta I agree the chocolate is amazing. I try to buy the mini bars, if I buy the big ones I eat too much Blush

I think I may try some Floral Street samples from the Feel Unique £3.95 thing. I don't think I've tried a single one of theirs yet! Also agree with whoever said MM Replicas don't suit them all right I have only tried two but detested them both. I still might try the Barbershop one though.

Calm I admire your work with pens, tester strips and organisation (it must be a fountain pen of course Grin) I have a bunch of silk roses in my bedroom and particularly good tester strips are poked into there and I ignore DH sneezing.

Mother you are definitely sucked in now, sorry not sorry. I also tend to be a bit obsessional for limited periods when I develop a new interest, usually books. Perfume obsession has stuck around though (to the detriment of my bank balance!) Did anyone else make "perfume" with rose petals and water when they were little?

Oh I just realised, I've not watched Fleabag either (ruins Venn diagram)

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/04/2019 18:16

SOTD is Freeway. The weather has been warm and sunny of late, and This is quite a springy scent, with citrus and orange blossom set off with a bit of burning rubber in the background. However, I should have looked out of the window before going to get my flight as it was torrential rain, which continued when I arrived in London. Also had a blast of DD2’s OML orange and don’t like it at all.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/04/2019 18:51

I really don't on with Rosa Ribes at all - if anyone wants it I have a sample going begging.

With you on the need to try Red Queen though MrsM

And I love Freeway

MrsMoggs · 13/04/2019 18:53

Yes, I know what you mean MrsS. It's quite a thin orange.

I read The Perfume Collector while away. Has anyone else come across it? An undemanding holiday read with some satisfying references to perfume making.
