Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

I hope they can save her or as much of her as they can, such an awful thing to happen especially at Easter.

Iambuffy · 15/04/2019 23:01

That's great mother

Am so sad about Notre dame :(

MotherOfDragonite · 16/04/2019 12:48

SOTD is Sideris again. I am so in love with it! I don't get any smoke at all, perhaps a very faint incense note, but mostly just the gorgeous and somewhat unfamiliar mountain tea / sideritis note. And something sweet, which I think is the beeswax and a very gently labdanum. It's lovely. It feels like a walk along an unfamiliar coast.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/04/2019 14:20

SOTD Byredo Bibliotheque.

KaliforniaDreamz · 16/04/2019 16:27

mrsMoggs here is the fragrantica blurb on Fahrenheit

Fahrenheit by Christian Dior is a Woody Floral Musk fragrance for men. Fahrenheit was launched in 1988. Fahrenheit was created by Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Michel Almairac. Top notes are lavender, mandarin orange, hawthorn, nutmeg flower, cedar, bergamot, chamomile and lemon; middle notes are nutmeg, honeysuckle, carnation, sandalwood, violet leaf, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and cedar; base notes are leather, tonka bean, amber, patchouli, musk and vetiver.

MrsMoggs · 16/04/2019 18:54

That's a list to make your mouth water, even without the frakinsence Kali😀. I have distant memories of the smell of the aftershave balm formula (rich and spicy).

Iambuffy · 16/04/2019 18:59

I may have to get dh some of that :)

FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic · 16/04/2019 19:14

Notre Dame fire is terrible. Seeing the spire fall down on the news felt particularly upsetting - I wondered if it was the memories of 9/11 and seeing the buildings fall, which made it feel just so awful, but I think it's just awful generally really. All that history.

Definitely up for a swapsies if people are up for it? I liked the Big Sniff too, maybe we could do a post Easter one?

I do vaguely remember Fahrenheit smelling delicious, but I don't think I could pull it off on myself. I love most "unisex" stuff and am all for getting rid of gender stereotyping Wink but...very manly aftershaves and a shaved head...bit risky for me - I still remember that traumatic thread where the MNer had been called "chief" Grin I'd hate to embarrass my DC any more than I already do Wink

Tracy on that note Grinyou make Wild Vanilla Orchid Barbie doll sound lush to my ears! I think I'll give it a whirl, I'm sure it's in the Feel Unique samples.

SOTW (too meh to make a proper decision each morning!) has been Neroli Portofino. I don't really like Tom Ford as a brand (grumpy cow today!) but by God I love this. Annoyingly. Luckily the Perfume Parlour dupe is perhaps even better Smile Mini Floof's recovery is progressing nicely and a friend travelled 400 miles to visit and bring a get well card, which was lovely.

MrsMoggs · 16/04/2019 20:31

SotD L'AP Traversee du Bosphore - apples, leather, iris, rose.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 16/04/2019 21:24

@FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic there is at about half of the Wild Vanilla Orchid left.
I am happy to give/send it to you (otherwise it will get binned) if you're happy to pm me.
I think there should be at least 3 days of wearing as I've tried it 4 times now (and I spray generously) but still can't like it.
I've done M&S Beauty Advent Calendar swaps before & I've been on here since 2007 under various names.
It's entirely up too you but I don't want anything for it.

Excuse spelling as writing whilst doing dinner Smile

Calmasasleepycat · 16/04/2019 21:38

Maud, I agree with you about Imaginary Authors Falling into the Sea. It has a pleasant and interesting opening, but is gone within a couple of hours.

Tracy, Floral Street’s Wild Vanilla Orchid didn’t do much for me, but I love Neon Rose and Iris Goddess. 💕

Floofy, I’m so pleased Minifloof is feeling better - what a worrying time for you. There are some masculine perfumes I really enjoy. I invariably have a spritz of Gaultier’s Le Male when I’m passing the tester bottle in Debenhams. It’s a lovely minty lavender. I have a bottle of L’Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu. It’s unisex but probably leans more masculine. I have let DH borrow it for a while as it smells amazing on him. I also have a bottle of vintage Givenchy Insense. I can’t really pick out notes from this, but Fragrantica describes it as an aromatic fougere. To me it is citrussy, herby and green fresh woods.

MrsMoggs, I loved Traversee du Bosphore. It has strong notes of Turkish Delight on me! 🍬

I took delivery today of four samples direct from Maison Francis Kurkdjian. They were wrapped in a gold-edged silken ribbon. I ordered Baccarat Rouge 540 in both eau de parfum and extrait de parfum, Amyris and Oud Satin Mood. I intend to buy a full bottle of the Baccarat, perhaps in the autumn and need to decide whether the extra cost of the extrait is worth it. They cost €14 including post and packing.

MrsMoggs · 16/04/2019 23:05

Hi Calm! Your MFK delivery sounds wonderful - do report back.

Yes, Traversee du Bosphore sweetens as it evolves on me - I think it is fab Smile. My favourite L'Artisan. Off to find my bottle of Insense and resniff...

teta · 17/04/2019 06:44

Wore Le Chevrefeuille by Annick Goutal yesterday. It’s definitely a spring perfume and I’m going to treasure my last few mls.
I’ve been awake since 4am. I have new sheets on my bed made out of cotton/linen mix and they are so scratchy and rough. I feel a bit like the Princess and The Pea. I’m hoping they will soften up after washing as I normally love Linen sheets.Or maybe it’s because I’m attempting the 800fast diet😩.And I’m just really hungry.
Calm I love Mfk samples and Amyris Femme is one of my favourites. Its such a feminine smelll initially but It’s definitely got some oomph with the Oud in the base.
Floofy I’m glad mini floof is feeling much better. What a lovely friend you have there.

1frenchfoodie · 17/04/2019 06:45

Traversee du Busphore sounds lovely mrsmoggs and I’m not even a fan of sweet scents. If you like turkish delight calm that was very much the vibe I got from Penhaligon’s Much ado about the duke.

I am big on unisex/masculine scents Floofy and have much of my short pixie cut shaved. I dont hanker after being called chief but ach, you need to go with what you like.

SOTD DS&Durga Bowmakers. I’m rubbish at picking out notes and most perfumes dont ‘evoke’ much for me but this is like opening the case of a much loved instrument - all leather, dry, warm wood and resin. Delicious for a still cold spring morning.

On a sadder scent note I work in Paris and travelling in yesterday there was a woody, smoky, caramelised note on the air - Notre Dame, sadly.

teta · 17/04/2019 07:00

Notre Dame is tragic, but it could have been so much worse. The stone structure is still standing and most of the treasures and the stained glass windows have been saved. I’m slightly non-amused by the supposed 90% tax deductability of the wealthy benefactors. Which means that the French tax payer will ultimately be paying the vast majority of the cost to rebuild.
I’m a Catholic, though not a very good practising one these days. It was heart breaking watching it burn.Bravo to all the firefighters who got it under control just in time.

FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic · 17/04/2019 09:48

Just a very quick post to say thank you Tracy for your kind offer however I enabled myself Grin have already ordered the samples from Feel Unique last night and included that one! Looking forward to smelling like a Barbie eating crumble Smile

KaliforniaDreamz · 17/04/2019 13:49

I adore masculine scents.

my DH sniffs me and asks which leathery cowboy are you today haha.

Much of Notre Dame internally is wood making it a bloody nightmare.... hopefully they salvaged lots of stuff.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/04/2019 15:16

Floofy you just couldn't help yourself 🤣
Seriously that's fine. What did you treat yourself to?

MotherOfDragonite · 17/04/2019 15:47

I know nobody will judge me here Grin ... but I did just happen to buy a pre-loved bottle of Anima Vinci's Wood of Life on eBay for a reasonable price, and it's very nice indeed.

Floofy, I think some restorative perfume-sniffing is definitely going to be very therapeutic for you while miniFloof is recovering... Grin

I like some more masculine scents but some of them just seem a little too manly for me; I can't really do the heavy leather thing or the ones that smell too much like aftershave. I KNOW I've just bought an EDT called Wood of Life though, ahahaha.

What a relief that they have saved so much of Notre Dame. What a terrible sight it was when the spire fell, and also the fact that there are no oak trees big enough growing any more to be able to recreate the original entirely :-( ... I am sure the renovated version will be amazing, but how sad that we have cut down so much old growth that it is just all gone :-(

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 17/04/2019 15:52

in more bargain hunting, I picked up Petite Robe Noir Intense, Bronnley - Wild Green and Zealous Flower for a grand total of £23!!! chuffed to bits, i have tried any of them so they are all blind buys but all have decent reviews on fragrantica so i'm hopeful Smile

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/04/2019 20:59

SOTD Rive Gauche. I had a lovely lunch with an ex student today. When my job is crap, I need to remember that I really do make a difference to the people I teach.

cantbelievemyeyes · 17/04/2019 21:37

Been using up some 4160 samples, so this morning was White Queen, Afternoon was Up the Apples & Pears, and this evening is the end of my 9ml of Captured by Candlelight. As much as I like them all, I don't think I'll buy anything else from there for a while. They just don't seem to last 5 mins on me (with the exception of Black Velvet Cafe and Over the Chocolate Shop).

Oooh Calm, intrigued to see how you feel about the MFK 540 Extrait. I've tried both and though very similar, I prefer the EDP. Projection seems better to me, similar longevity, but the EDP is a bit of magic so I bought that. If I sniff it on my wrist it's good, but it almost skips off the skin and makes this light, sparkly bubble around me which is sometimes cool, sometimes warm. I may sound a bit ridiculous but there are only a couple of perfumes that really blow me away and this is one of them Grin

Am also very partial to Fahrenheit and JPG Le Male, nice to see the love for them! I do share quite a few fragrances with my DH as in general I tend to prefer boozy, spicy, woody, heavy scents.
