My ds has long hair his choice but a nightmare when headlice strike! He wears skinny jeans too there is no hope for us

berolina · 13/07/2007 14:30

ds is 2, has thin fluffy blond baby hair which curls at the ends. It does look a bit unkempt, but is so gorgeous with the lovely little curls that there's no way I'm cutting it yet. ILs do make comments, but they are of the conviction that only crew cuts are acceptable on men/boys... dh had long (as in really long, halfway down back) straight silky blond hair for quite a while, and I actually think they 'rejected' him ever so slightly because of it. Like others on this thread I really feel quite sad when I see crew cuts on small boys.

ApuNahasapeemapetilon · 13/07/2007 15:02

i couldn't care if mt ds's get called girls and they do all the time

i think its that despite the long hair they do not have faces of smashed crabs

MrsFish · 13/07/2007 15:24

My ds was born with a head full of blonde hair, he is two now and has had about 8 haircuts so far. It isn't curly at all but a lovely white blonde colour. It isn't too short, would not go crew cut short but it isn't long either, I really don't think it would suit him. Pic in my profile, only want to show him off because I think he is gorgeous

foxcub · 13/07/2007 16:30

MrsFish - your Ds has gorgeous hair (I like the 3d in utero pics ). My DS1 also has lovely blonde hair and wears it long. He's often mistaken for a girl but I don't care - I assume its because he's so pretty!

I love long hair on boys. Much more attractive than a brutal shaved head IMHO

Teeniebf · 13/07/2007 17:13

I have 2 DSs tried to let DS1s (3.5yrs) hair grow longer - just didn't work his hair is just to thick and was growing long at the fron but not at the back! with DS2(19mnths) his hair is very fine, bright coppery red in colour and full of curls, its, naturally, quite short on top but long on the back and when wet reaches all the way to his shoulders and I just refuse point blank to get it cut, well that and I doubt if he would sit still long enough to let anyone near him with a pair of scissors! I love long hair on boys, but some - like my oldest - just don't suit it, which is such shame.

muppety · 13/07/2007 17:25

Nice if thick and curly. Can look really cute then. If thin and stright not keen. I mean what suits one child won't another(same for girls).

littleboo · 13/07/2007 18:13

my youngest had the most fab blond long curls, real sufer boy style, I was persuaded when he reached 2 to get it cut ( like his older brother so went the whole hog no 2 - he still look cute, but just didn't quite suit him
he's now 2 1/2 and the curls are growing back - get loads of comments saying how cute and cool he looks - I just love it.
But wouldn't have suited my older one, he's now a stunning 7 year old, fab shaved head and huge blue eyes.
Each one is different

lapsedrunner · 13/07/2007 18:14

No, no ,no..

Ulysees · 13/07/2007 18:17

I like it on ds1 who's 9 but hate it on wispy hair. I think this needs a good blunt cut to make it look thicker, not straggling bits. I'm a hairdresser btw. DS2 has a gradutated style, he also has lots of hair but suits it shorter.

Desiderata · 13/07/2007 18:20

My ds's hair is blond and curly, and really suits a little length. The only thing I don't like is when it 'wings' over his ears. The trouble is, if I chop the wings off, it's going to look dangerously like a mullet.

Novacane · 13/07/2007 18:48

phew I found you! I got lost in active convos!

My DS has longish hair (see my profile for pic), I must say I love it, mainly because of the colour (he has red and blonde in layers)

Desiderata · 13/07/2007 19:00

Your little boy is edible, Novacane! Thanks for taking the time to post the piccy

bosscat · 13/07/2007 19:01

ds2 was a little sweet blonde curly haired cherub till his stupid mummy took notice of all the "isn't she lovely" comments and took him to the barbers. now he has a short cut, not a crew cut and looks about a year older. I thought he looked quite cool actually with his short hair till I saw some pics of him which my mother took about 6 months to process (old people) and he was sooooooo fab with long hair. mistake.....never mind it all grows back

I think, keep your child's hair as long as you and they like. The only thing that annoys me is parents of boys with long hair who moan about their being mistaken for girls. No shit, Sherlock.

aloha · 13/07/2007 19:18

I know someone whose small son
wore androgynous clothes and a sodding hairclip in his long girls, who complained most bitterly about his being mistaken for a girl

aloha · 13/07/2007 19:18

Long hair - sorry, should be packing. Delirious with joy about going on holiday tomorrow.

DS was born with one long light brown wavy lock on the top of his head and another resembling a tail at the nape of his neck. Left for a while, until about 3inches long at 3months, but he began to resemble a member of an obscure tribe. So we trimmed to even it all out. Now has flowing waves of blondy brown hair, a its looks lovely. Will trim when it becomes unpractical or he doesn;t like it.
