my DS isn't having his haircut until he is three
he has beautiful blonde hair - it curls a bit behind his ears
i like it a lot

BBBBasilisk · 12/07/2007 19:46

ds 7yrs has shoulder length hair.

suzycreamcheese · 12/07/2007 19:55

ds has blonde hair, looks lovely bit wild, curly at ends..gets it cut now and again but he struggles and cries so much at the time...its just another battle i dont choose to have..

if its out of his eyes i dont have problem

added plus it pisses off grandparents

crew cuts too extreme looking

barbamama · 12/07/2007 20:01

my 2.5 ds has very fine golden streaked smooth hair and it looks lovely long - I just get it trimmed if it starts to go in his eyes or flick up too much at the ears. I did get 2 dads on holiday last week thinking he was a girl so he will have a little tidy up this Saturday. I get a lot of comments about how nice it looks - one women last week asked me, seriously, if I take him to the salon with me to get it streaked! I think it maybe depends on the type of hair they have - thick and bushy might not look so good long, equally his is so fine it wouldn't really work in a crew cut I don't think.

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/07/2007 20:03

don't really like it but equally can't bear mini yob ultra short cuts.

stoppinattwo · 13/07/2007 07:48

DS just recently got his cut........see my profile after constant name calling in school. I was upset, he sreally suited it, but i love his new hair cut too. It could be pink I wouldnt care, as long as he likes it

WilkiesWizardWheezes · 13/07/2007 09:03

Stop - just looked at your pics - I prefer his hair short

I think it depends on the child. My DS is only 6 months and practically bald so not an issue ATM. I like the surfer dude longish hair look on little boys but not stupidly long so they look like little girls.

Will just wait and see I guess.

DH's hair is curly and like coconut matting if it gets any longer than an inch or so - just hope DS doesn't take after him!!!!!!!

Nbg · 13/07/2007 09:06

I like it.
I had the same problem with my ds but he's 10 months!

I bit the bullet last month and a MN friend cut it.
Have a look at my profile.

I would try and take him to a hairdresser and get them to juts tidy it up a bit.

LittleLupin · 13/07/2007 09:11

I'm a short back and sides sorta girl - on DH and DS! But if longer hair suits your boy, and you and he are both happy, then why not!

Stoppin - gorgeous DCs

Azure · 13/07/2007 09:12

My DS2 is 2 next month and has also never had his hair cut. He has lovely blond curls (though looks ropey when wet) and looks very cute.

Miaou · 13/07/2007 09:14

MAS I agree with you - not madly keen on it but it is much preferable to the "no. 2 all over" look. Having said that, I think that stoppinattwo's ds's hair looks fab in that photo!

A neighbour of ours has his son staying with him for the summer - he is 12 and has shoulder-length hair. It really suits him and I couldn't imagine him with it short! However some boys really don't suit long hair - my db grew his long in his late teens and it looked totally stupid - after persevering for about a year he had it all cut off (and all photographs destroyed )

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 13/07/2007 09:14

ds2 has long blonde page boy haircut. it's very cute but is a bit of a pain as it needs cutting so regularly. am taking him today as he can hardly see and am contemplating something a little shorter....any suggestions? he can't go short short as he has a double crown and too short just makes it stick up and look untidy.

Tutter · 13/07/2007 09:24

ha

ds's hair would never do that boden beach boy surf thing - he has really thick, grown-up hair

which unfortunately needs a proper haircut - stressful is not the word...

snowleopard · 13/07/2007 09:32

I love that Boden boy look and fancied it for DS - especially as he hates haircuts. But once it got long-ish it got tangled and was a pain to wash (which he also hates) so have recently had to get it cut back to normal boy length (not crewcut though!) Am of people with grgeous long-haired boys!

Mung · 13/07/2007 09:33

There are always fights in our house about DS's hair. It is curly, blonde (almost white) and has never been cut (he is nearly 2). I love it and I figure he wont stay this colour for long,so why not go for the crazy unkempt look. Everyone thinks he is a girl, but I dont care. I did trim the underneath bit at the back the other day, as he had a horrible mullet. I just dont want him to look like everyone else at Toddler group....he has plenty of years to conform to his peers, so why should he now?

Most of all...I love running my fingers through it and ruffling it up and he enjoys it too.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 13/07/2007 09:34

have just put a pic of ds2's hair on my profile

Mung · 13/07/2007 09:34

I dont wash or brush DS's hair and it is beautiful, soft and naturally clean. He gets the odd rinse in the bath with water if he has food in it though.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 13/07/2007 09:34

bugger-didn't work.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 13/07/2007 09:36

ds1 had very curly hair and i used to have to comb it through with tangle tamer to get all the knots out-it used to matt up over night.

arwen · 13/07/2007 09:40

my ds has decided he wants long hair which is fine with me as he is a little blonde elfin type. We are having to have one last haircut though for s-i-l's wedding in August, don't think she will understand as it will still be at that mop stage!

arwen · 13/07/2007 09:41

Should have said, he is just 5.

ApuNahasapeemapetilon · 13/07/2007 09:45

Yes Tutter - my ds2 tried to grow his hair as his brothers and friends wear it long but the thick wirey hair just got wierder! It is blonde as well so it is rare fro it to be such a thatch

Click on my profile for some cute boys ( growing ds4 fringe out btw!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2007 09:51

stoppingatwo - your ds looks cute with both hair cuts !!

chopster · 13/07/2007 10:00

stoppingattwo, I prefer the long!
I lvoe long hair on little boys. Two of my boys have coarse hair, so have to have it short, but dt2 has lovely soft smooth hair and his is getting grown. He lvoes it, and often asks for pigtails like his sister.

Birdly · 13/07/2007 10:00

I love longer hair on boys. DS (2) has always had long-ish hair, although he does have a trim occasionally. I make it clear to the hairdresser, though, that I don't want the clippers and crewcut nonsense. Luckily, they do a good job.
You see so many boys of around 2 with exactly the same identikit short haircut, looking like mini soldiers. Let them be kids!
(Perfectly understandable to have a short cut if they have very tricky hair, though! )
