Pollyanna · 13/07/2007 10:13

ds until recently had "surfer dude" (his words) hair and I really liked it.

But we got it cut a few weeks ago as it kept going in his eyes and he looks much better - he doesn't have a crew cut though.

All the boys here in brighton have long hair.

Bink · 13/07/2007 10:17

You know how Posh&Becks used to keep Romeo's hair all woffily trendily long? Well I saw a picture in Metro this morning (sadly can't link as it's not on website) of her with him this morning & it's all short now - I thought how lovely he looks, with gleaming neat hair & his little bright face - that's what I like.

I thought well done the Beckhams. (Though I must've been having a fugue moment to think about them at all.)

ApuNahasapeemapetilon · 13/07/2007 10:20

please can someone admire apus lovely boys?

BexieID · 13/07/2007 10:22

I didn't want to have Toms hair cut, but after being mistaken for a girl (AGAIN), DF & I took him to the barbers! His fringe was also over his eyes! Pics in profile of him before and after.

Bink · 13/07/2007 10:29

Have just realised that I actively love short hair on small boys as much as some of you like the long hair. So am in opposite camp & will bow out after saying:

Long hair can't do that gorgeous summery thing of hair gone delicately silver at the nape of a brown neck.

Obviously it can do other things but not that

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2007 10:31

I don't personally like long hair on little boys, think it looks naff (sorry) in fact i have already started cutting ds's hair - he is 11 mth.

mumblechum · 13/07/2007 10:33

I prsonally don't like long hair on boys. We know a 12 year old, rather effeminate boy with long stringy curls and to be honest every time I see him I want to get the scissors out.

It can look quite cool on more "manly" boys though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2007 10:33

Bink - yes agree - ds has short hair which gets silvery blond at the edges in the summer (obviously not this year !)

suzywong · 13/07/2007 10:35

Got my own set of clippers fo rmy boys. May stretch to a short back and sides but always want that nape of the neck thing happening.

CatIsSleepy · 13/07/2007 10:37

I like long hair...
friend of mine has a boy of about 14 months...just starting to grow some v sweet (tiny) curls...she said she was going to have to cut them off! seems like such a shame to me.

CatIsSleepy · 13/07/2007 10:38

and I like it on older boys too..makes a change from the bovver-boy crewcuts I see on all the tracksuit-clad yoof round where I live!

Oblomov · 13/07/2007 10:44

I don't like long hair on boys. I prefer it really quite short.

sandyballs · 13/07/2007 10:54

I love long haired boys. Just as well we had girls as Dh hates long hair on boys.

Hathor · 13/07/2007 10:57

Reading your posts hair seems to be a real statement.

Short all over = soldier/thug/grown up
Floppy on top, short sides = public schoolboy
Shoulder length = surfer/dude/boden-boy/lentil-weaver
Longer than that = girl

Except for Bink, for whom short hair is poetic! "Long hair can't do that gorgeous summery thing of hair gone delicately silver at the nape of a brown neck."

It is just hair fgs. Wonder how many of you try to influence their choice of hairstyle depending on your own feelings about it?

singersgirl · 13/07/2007 10:58

Lots of boys at the DSs' school have long hair now. I don't really like it as it is always in their eyes and makes them look really messy; they are constantly pushing it back and squinting. All the girls with long hair wear plaits and ponytails and clip it back out of their eyes, but the boys can't see properly.

DS2 has lovely blond bits by his ears now and highlights of about 10 different shades. DS1 is just blond.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2007 11:01

what about nits ?!

Sazisi · 13/07/2007 11:02

I think long hair is lovely on boys; I'm seeing a lot more of it these days - maybe thanks to the surfer/skater trends? - and I reckon it's very cool

DS always had short hair (easier to deal with as it is very thick) ... and then we moved from NZ to Aus and all Aussie boys have long hair. So DS started to grow his hair. But it is so thick it grows OUT not DOWN so from a distance he looks like a big headed alien ... big head on little body.
so I dragged him to the hairdressers and got it cut.
He had also started playing with it and looked silly.
Most of the boys in his class look like they have never seen a hairbrush let alone used it ...
Oh, and he wanted a TAIL ...
Over my dead body ....

Hathor · 13/07/2007 11:03

Nits don't have hair MaryAnn

Bink · 13/07/2007 11:04

Am utterly unashamed about influencing! - when they're little. Will do my best to butt out when they are adults (though my own mum doesn't re me, & similarly lots of my own friends seem to have mothers with Strong Views on their adult daughters' hair - much bigger issue there I think)

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2007 11:05

ha ! I guess long haired boys might be encouraged to tie it back in school as girls do.
